@ The Ugly,

I hated that movie and didn't get the reference.

I figured you didn't. I posted it to acknowledge Chimps's brilliant reference, but mostly to annoy Lebowski haters. Give it another chance (or two), I'll bet both Howard's and Donny's accounts it'll grow on you.

I hated it the first time, too.

Glenn Frey, founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, dead at 67

http://fox6now.com/2016/01/18/glenn-frey-founding-member-and-guitarist-of-the-eagles-has-passed-away-at-67/

NEW YORK — Glenn Frey,  a founding member of the Eagles, died at age 67 on Monday in New York City, the band’s website has announced.

“Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia,” the Eagles’ website stated.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that usually affects joints in the hands and feet, and ulcerative colitis affects a person’s digestive tract and can be life threatening, according to mayoclinic.org.

Frey was the lead singer and played guitar, among other instruments, for the Eagles, known for hits such as “Take It Easy,” “Already Gone” and “Hotel California.”

“Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community and millions of fans worldwide,” the website stated.

Frey suffered health problems, causing the band to defer accepting their planned Dec. 6 Kennedy Center Honor until 2016, the Washington Post reported in November.

He had a recurrence of “previous intestinal issues, which will require major surgery and a lengthy recovery period,” a statement from the Eagle read, according to the Post.

Monday’s announcement included lyrics to the following song:

“It’s Your World Now”
Written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin
From the Eagles’ Long Road Out of Eden album

A perfect day, the sun is sinkin’ low
As evening falls, the gentle breezes blow
The time we shared went by so fast
Just like a dream, we knew it couldn’t last
But I’d do it all again
 If I could, somehow
But I must be leavin’ soon
 It’s your world now

It’s your world now
 My race is run
 I’m moving on
 Like the setting sun
 No sad goodbyes
 No tears allowed
 You’ll be alright
 It’s your world now

Even when we are apart
You’ll always be in my heart
When dark clouds appear in the sky
 Remember true love never dies

But first a kiss, one glass of wine
Just one more dance while there’s still time
My one last wish: someday, you’ll see
How hard I tried and how much you meant to me

It’s your world now
 Use well your time
 Be part of something good
 Leave something good behind
 The curtain falls
 I take my bow
That’s how it’s meant to be
 It’s your world now
 It’s your world now
 It’s your world now

I know everyone goes apeshit for "Seven bridges Road" but I still like the harmonies in "Victim of Love" a little better.

"I can't tell you why" is still my favorite tune from The Eagles, though.

Always dug "Desperado" and "Witchy Woman," among others.

I also love many of Henley's solo tunes, but this is Frey's thread. So I'll just check out with "You Belong to the City" isn't nearly as bad as Starship's horrifically shitty "We Built this City."

Again, RIP.

PIP...If you ever watch the Eagles documentary you can see he could be a dick and a pain in the ass but he knew what he wanted and he drove forward to achieve his vision.....there is something to be said about that.

....some really good songs out of him and that band 8)

Yeah, there was a lot of animosity between the band and Felder.  That was not a new revelation in The History of the Eagles.  Sad they never reconciled.  Randy Meisner sure is in a sad state now.

I was so bummed they couldn't make it (collectively) in December to the Kennedy Center Honors, postponing til 2016.  I don't think the public was made aware how critical Glenn's situation was, just that he needed surgery and there would be a long recovery period.

I wasn't crazy about that one either.

I'm probably too cynical but have usually been disappointed when someone says "This is the best movie, ever", "It'll change how you see things", or have every line memorized.

Classics hold up for me. I'm a big Kurosawa fan.

I understand why "Fight Club" was a great movie. I just lack the frame of reference that would have been necessary for it to really speak to me.

Most don't choose either way, it's just a nice thing to say about one who's passed. No one "beats" or "finally lost their courageous battle with" cancer or what have you; the chemo-cocktail or life-preserving concoction either did its job or it didn't.

The rest is just feel good blah blah for survivors.

Not familiar with all the various sects, but traditional LaVey/Church of Satan-types are predominantly atheists, who view the devil only as a metaphor representing man's self-determinism, etc. A rejection of traditional Judeo-Christian ideology/values, and all things supernatural, in essence.

Local station interviewed a "Church" spokesman not too long ago and even the host (a zero BS, wildly judgy loudmouth) remarked how normal and down-to-earth the guy seemed: "So you're really just atheists, then, no goat sacrifices and whatnot?"

"No, none of that. That's Hollywood," dude said. "We just don't let that book tell us how we should live."

Yes, but again, "God" metaphorically. No immortality or supernatural powers, just the realization that you are fully responsible for your rules, choices, and Any consequences that should arise from those decisions.

No pleading to imaginary powers for fixing, forgiving, or redemption if and when choices go sour. All on you, which is exactly like atheists, pretty much.

Glenn Frey was my childhood best friend's first cousin .. Richard's dad's sister was Glenn's mom ... I met Richard at a California school after his family moved out here from Detroit, MI ..

Attached is a photo at a family reunion showing Glenn Frey with Richard's dad and two of his sisters Becky and Rene, who I remember as kids... My friend Richard is on the far right... In the early years, Glenn and Richard grew up together as kids back in Michigan..

I called Richard when I heard the news about Glenn, but he had already been informed by his son earlier that day...

Glenn Frey’s Son Deacon Seamlessly Fills In For His Legendary Late Father Onstage With The Eagles

https://laughingsquid.com/deacon-frey-fills-in-for-glenn-frey-with-the-eagles/

After the tragic news that The Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey had passed away in January 2016, many fans weren’t sure if the band would continue touring or if they did, would they ever sound the same? Vince Gill had already joined up, but it wasn’t until Deacon Frey decided to fill in for his legendary father that it all came together. The band is currently touring across the United States, after which they will be heading off to Europe and then to Australia and New Zealand in 2019.
