CA quakes are the most needlessly overemphasized natural disaster concern in the entire country. I've stopped and taken notice of maybe two in my nearly fifty years here. And we all pretty much live atop an "active" fault.
Imagine our southernmost SoCalers are at much greater risk succumbing to a fatal chupacabra mauling near the Mexican border.

I remember my first earthquake... and one other that happened when I was in a weird area.
Other than that, I pay almost no attention to them.

No one even notices anything under a 4.5 or so.

That's true.
3.8 at the lowest.

I only experienced my first one a few years back, I was visiting my parents and the whole house just kind of vibrated and their was a distinct rumble that made me go what the fuck was that, then assumed it was an earthquake and this was confirmed later by the news report. For some reason and perhaps because no-one was hurt I thought it was pretty cool. Just a gentle reminder of the power of nature.

When I lived in California last year, I experienced my first earthquake. I woke up at about 4:30am and my fucking whole room is shaking. I was like, "WHAT THE FUCK!!??!" At first I thought I was dreaming. Then I thought there was a ghost in my room; I was like, "Shit, ghosts really do exist." Then my roommate came out and she told me it was an earthquake. We don't get many earthquakes in NYC. :D :D

The worst earthquake I've been in was actually in central Virginia.
7.8 or something like that.
Wasn't in California.
-
Not sure where exactly you two were, but I don't recall feeling either of those. I distinctly remember '87, '92, and '94 (sorta, but a little too far away), the only ones I remember hitting hard.

I was in Playa Del Rey when it happened. It was not last year. The year before that (2013-2014). Toward the summer of 2014. Many of my colleagues actually slept through it. I guess it "hit" me more because I never experienced one. The ground shaking was a pretty startling experience for me. :D :D

This is the first big one I remember vividly being in. I was 9.

That's what happens.
I remember mine. I was sitting in my office on a random Saturday and I heard it before I felt it.
The blinds in the office starting making noise and all of a sudden the building started shaking.
I will never forget it.

How is that funny? His Wiki leak says he died of cancer at the age of 66. Nothing funny about cancer. :-\
