Title: Radical Plato: another unique barbell on craigslist
Post by: Royalty on February 09, 2016, 03:13:22 AM
Guy wants $60. I would have to drive about an hour to pick it up.

Olympic bar with spiraled sleeves. Looks a bit rusty, but I don't mind.

That bar is from a late 80's - early 90's set that was sold under the Jack Lalanne, Legacy, and Matador names. Chinese, but nice set, the plates were machined beautifully on the rims and hubs, here's how the plates looked -

Rust isn't too big a deal, usually steel wool will get the majority of it off, and I use a rust removal product if it is really stubborn, but still will clean up pretty good. Good find, $60 would be a good buy.  How long is it?

I'm assuming that it's 7'

I will contact the seller later today. Hopefully it's not bent.

This brings up a question I always had. Why is it that the 45 became the standard weight plate instead of the 50?

Easier to work up to multiple plates, it's all about how many plates.

Yes, American Olympic barbell sets are based off of the European Berg Olympic sets which were the first Olympic sets. The dimensions were set by Berg back then, and all just followed suit.

Some older Russian bars had those threaded ends.

Also, cheap chinese no-name and Weider did as well. I have a set of Olympic threaded collars with the Weider name on them..

Might ask Kali Muscle or Rich Piana.
They obviously know where to get them.
