https://www.rt.com/news/332162-gravitational-waves-discovery-announcement/
Scientists at Washington’s National Science Foundation and Moscow State University have confirmed the discovery of Albert Einstein’s gravitational waves. The breakthrough, possibly the biggest in physics in a century, could be the key to new understanding of the universe.
Recent rumors of the success in detecting gravitational waves, or as some scientists put it "very weak spacetime wiggles which propagate at the speed of light" were officially confirmed Thursday.
"Ladies and gentlemen! We have detected gravitational waves, we did it!," LIGO laboratory executive director David Reitze announced in Washington.
"These gravitational waves were produced by two colliding black holes, [that] came together, merged and formed a single black hole about 1.3 billion years ago," Reitze said.
These ripples in the fabric of spacetime are one of the most important variables in Einstein's theory of relativity and it took astronomers decades to detect them, although they were pretty sure that gravitational waves existed.
The discovery has been made with the use of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) - a system of two detectors constructed to spot tiny vibrations from passing gravitational waves. Funded by the National Science Foundation, LIGO's identical detectors are located in Livingston, Louisiana, and Hanford, Washington.
The observatories, which are "the most precise measuring device ever built," recorded a signal on September 14, 2015, "nearly simultaneously," and the signal "had a very specific characteristic," the laboratories' director said.
"As time went forward, the frequency went up," he explained, adding that it took scientists months of careful checking and analysis to confirm that what had been discovered was exactly gravitational waves.
Each of the two black holes before merging had about 30 times the mass of the Sun, were 150 kilometers (93 miles) in diameter and accelerated to about half the speed of light. The detected collision also proved that the merging of binary black holes does exist in the universe.
"Let's say this: The first discovery of gravitational waves is a Nobel Prize-winning venture," said physicist Bruce Allen of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Hannover, Germany.
But the prize will be most possibly given not to theorists, but those who are behind the mechanism that confirmed the existence of the waves, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Pavel Ivanov told RT.

That is why I posted it. I am hoping Marty can chime in on this.

I have been reading about this for the last week. The scale of this discovery is astonishing. Gravitational waves will be a new way of understanding the universe the way electromagnetic waves were.
The science is mostly there. From now on it is a matter of building the appropriate instruments that will enable gravitational wave astronomy and mounting them on observatories on earth and space. In the next few decades there will be astonishing discoveries we cannot even imagine now.
-
Yeah, but who was better Ronnie or Dorian? Now that is what we really care about. Not some "gravitational waves", psssh.

I've been following this since it was just a rumor weeks ago.
It's fascinating to say the least. Anyone interested in this kind of topics should read Quora.com. Some top notch, world renowned physicists there answering your questions for fun.

I remember a thread by Marty rebutting The theory of relativity, this discovery is verifying Einstein's Theory of relativity..
I'm expecting Martys Theorem. :P

Ahhh, yes, Marty DID disprove Einsteins Theory or Relativity many months back.
I wait for his opinion on this matter.

Anyone really believe they heard sounds that are a billion years old to confirm that gravitational waves are real? Give me a fucking break.

They are not saying that the sounds are a billion years old.
They are saying that the sounds are coming from somewhere 1.3 billion light years away.
I assume that is much different than saying they are billions of years old.
But I am definitely no physics major lol

I call bullshit on this discovery.

Even if many new it in the past or current, it still would be considered a breakthrough discovery. It would just be a breakthrough discovery of the past.
The question then becomes: if it was a breakthrough discovery years ago, why wasn't it shared until now?

I think it was even earlier when they knew about it but both, Hulse and Taylor won the nobel price in physics 1993 for indirect proof of said waves.
Tesla probably knew about them also.

The observation of the phenomena didn't happen until now...They may have worked it out with math long ago...but it wasn't observed until just now.

Well he published a "Dynamic Theory of Gravity".

Exactly, the instruments needed to detect gravitational waves are insanely complicated. It will take many, many years to make them as ubiquitous as telescopes.

I wonder who really came up with the theory of gravitational waves that Einstein ripped off?
-
"In his 1899 Colorado Springs experiments, Tesla discovered the electro-gravitational (or scalar) wave, which oscillate the energy density of the vacuum and hence oscillate the curvature of space-time. So, over a century ago, it appears that Tesla had already produced a unified field theory of gravitation and electromagnetics. His discoveries were so fundamental, and his intent to provide free energy for all humankind was so clear, that it was probably responsible for the withdrawal of his financial backing, his deliberate isolation, and the gradual removal of his name from the history books."

All of what Tesla knew was never disclosed. If someone said he probably knew that there were gravitational waves, he probably did. If someone said that he didn't, he probably still did.
Don't ever doubt the never ending knowledge of man-God named Tesla.

Is everything a fucking conspiracy "theory" for you?
Do you have a background in physics to draw the conclusion that Einstein ripped off Tesla? Do you understand the technical terms, the math, the equations, etc?
Do you realize that, in order to gain attention/money some people out there make yellowish, bullshit claims?
Do you realize there are thousands of scientists out there that could easily tell if Einstein ripped off someone else's work?
Do you even know what a gravitational wave is?

Interesting to note that you GetBiggers are interested in this subject and seem to speak intelligently about it.
I've done my best to read and understand the subject of QM over the past ten years and knew enough about it to discuss it somewhat intelligently with a physics professor who taught the subject, but Icompletely fail to understand how this applies to modern day physics.
Is a gravitational wave the same as the bending of light over time and space?
It might be more honest to say that it is a complete mystery to me except for the fact that it concerns the collision of two separate black holes and the results thereof.
What effect does that have on anything within the universe?
Would appreciate if anyone can refer me to some basic and understandable reading concerning this "new discovery".
Thanks, Dumb Stunt.

Tesla was the man. Intelligence beyond belief but of course the Jewish media promotes Einstein.

This subject is something new to me so I am going to post some interesting ed-u-ma-ca-tion-astuff as I find it.
First of all ... here is a photo of the collusion in question that I took while traveling around the Universe with WIGGS and a couple of other GetBiggers whom I have forgotten.
And a schematic of what the hell is going on with this space/time stuff.
I gotta renew my knowledge on this space/time subject which is hard to understand due to the fact that it is the 4th dimension and I am still doing my best to understand the 3rd.
Doing some searching now on why this is so damn important!
-
Nice one Stunt :D
-
BTW .... Once upon a time when I 'THOUGHT' I had a basic understanding of Quantum Mechanic basics, I was doing my best to write a paper explaining those QM basics without the math so that anyone in high school could understand it.
BUT .... Once I got to an explanation of the DOUBLE SPLIT EXPERIMENT which got to about page three (almost the very beginning of the study of QM) .... I realized that I was too stupid to ever compete it.
Since then a physics professor has encouraged me to do my best to continue. He says that it would be of great interest to see if it could be done and would also show just how well someone who never took a college level physics class understood the subject.
I say this simply because I am impressed by the number of GetBiggers who seem to talk intelligently about this Gravitational Wave subject.
By the way .... Gravitational Waves and Gravity Waves are two different
'things'.

Ah yes. The rare "Double Black Hoes", or as the Scientific Hebrewic Scholars call it, Twin Anti-Niburi-Asteroid-Launching-Spheres. Ancient (dated back some 30 years!) Hebrewic texts discovered in the subterranean subways of Chicago (i.e., Holee Graphittee) were recently translated and reveal that these Black Hoes were set up throughout the BLACKNESS of space to protect travelling Hebroes from whitey. The Documentary on Blaxtronauts from the program known as NASSA or the Negroe American Society of Space Astronauts (later changed to the less offensive "Afronauts") shows just how real the need to keep these brave interspacial pioneers safe from lesser space peeps of non-colour (note the European spelling that shows real class!) was.
Excellent find! Well done, stunt.
-
the basic premise is the space time is like a sheet or blanket, say you hold the four corners of a blanket out, you drop a marble and a bowling ball, which makes the deeper impression? This impression is what creates gravity, the bigger the object the bigger the displacement of the time-space fabric, thus greater gravitational pull. This displacement travels throughout the whole space time fabric like a pebble in a pond, we just found the ripples to confirm this is actually how gravity of large objects work, the quantum realm is still a mystery.
We will be able to detect gravity signatures of objects we cannot see, or cannot detect, potentially harness this for travel (far off, but if einstein is right, it's possible) and possibly answer several fundamental questions about the universe that we have had no tool to utilize.
It's like using a magnifying glass or a microscope, we have a new better tool we have never had before.
It's pretty awesome, it's nothing new, it's verification by an ingenious experiment. Basically they reflected a laser across great distances, as a wave passes space time in stretched and compressed, the two lasers heading in opposite directions would show this stretch in one side and compression in the other, at the same time, with a distinct signature, this is what they found.

At present I am doing a lot of reading about LIGO which is something I never knew about until earlier this week.

SF, Jumping ahead too far .... but here is part of the answer you may be looking for ....
"The gravitational swell originated more than 750 million light-years away, where the high-speed dance of two converging black holes shook the very foundation upon which planets, stars and galaxies reside."
This was 'discovered as a result of "DIRECT DETECTION" of the gravitational waves which were "measured" by the INTERFEROMETER. (the name of the two devices that we built to measure this 'stuff".
Much earlier there was INDIRECT evidence for the existence OF GRAVITATIONAL WAVES conducted by two guys named Hulse and Taylor which only suggested that gravitational waves were more than a hypothetical concept.
I guess we were all out of the loop while all of this indirect stuff was going on.
Next up .... some info and photos of LIGO's INTERFEROMETER and how it works and where they are and why they are where they are and lots of other stuff most GetBiggers don't want to know.
-
"The LIGO “observatory” is made up of two identical and widely separated interferometers situated in sparsely populated, relatively out-of-the-way places: LIGO Hanford in southeastern Washington State in an arid shrub-steppe region crisscrossed by hundreds of layers of ancient lava flows; and LIGO Livingston, 3002 km away in a vast, humid, loblolly pine forest west of Baton Rouge, Louisiana."
Soon to be built in Italy, Germany, Japan, and India.
LIGO was designed with two detectors so far apart for good reason. LIGO’s detectors are so sensitive that they can 'feel' the tiniest vibrations on the Earth from sources very nearby to sources hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Things like earthquakes, acoustic noise (e.g., trucks driving on nearby roads, farmers plowing fields, things that people can hear and feel) and even internal laser fluctuations can cause disturbances in the detector's laser that can mask or mimic a gravitational wave signal in each interferometer.
If the instruments were located close together, they would detect the same vibrations at the same times--both from Earth-sources and from gravitaitonal waves and it would be nearly impossible to distinguish local noise from a vibration from deep space.
Facilities far apart, however, will not feel the same local vibrations but they will feel a gravitational wave vibration at the same time. By comparing data from both sites, scientists can ignore the vibrations that differ between the sites and look only for identical signals that occurred at the same time at both locations. This is why two or more detectors are essential.
Each one acts as a noise filter for the other, leaving only signals from gravitational waves as the stand-outs. Without working together in this way to confirm each other's detections, gravitational waves could never be positively detected with an interferometer like LIGO.
LIGO’s collaboration with VIRGO (I think that this will be new one in India) adds a third interferometer to the mix thus significantly increasing the confidence that a detected signal is real.

Here's a photo of what an Interferometer looks like and where they are located in the US.

it's the most common explanation I think.

NECROSIS!
YES! Dancing Wu Li Masters is the best book I've read regarding QM.
And the only one I SORT of understood.
But I had to read it about 6 times.
And am still completely confused when it comes to most of the chapters.
BUT ... I have discussed QM a few times with Physic Professors and they both said that I asked decent questions and had a partial grasp of the subject.
Some of my questions were valid but were never under consideration by any qualified individual with in the field.
For instance ... If you were able to travel along the side of a light "particle", would you be able to see it?
A few GetBiggers may attempt to answer that one and a fewer may eve claim to have done it many times.
It is said that anyone who claims that he/she understand QM completely today is a fraud.
But maybe next year ......!
I'm working on it!
But I think my math limitations will f...k me up a bit.

HERE'S is part of WHAT THIS DISCOVERY IS GOING TO DO.
Can anyone foresee how or if it will affect your daily routine or training habits?

If you were travelling alongside a photon, you would be travelling an luminal speeds, time would no longer exist.
is there an accepted answer? I can argue both ways and I am sure neither are correct.
-
NECROSIS ..... What is luminal speed? I cannot find the definition of LUMINAL in the dictionary except that it is some type of pharmacy product.
According to my limited knowledge .... a light ray (the individual particles of that light ray) travel in a straight line unless they are 'bent' by a gravitational force and remain 'unseen' until they reach someone's eyeball.
So if I was able to travel at the same speed and to the side of that particle .... I most likely could not see it unless I moved my position in front of it so that it would strike my eyeball.
There is some belief among various individuals who firmly believe that nothing really does exist until it is seen (or something like that).
The eyeball creates reality???!!!
This is where I got completely messed up in Dancing Wu Li Masters, so I am speaking beyond my realm of understanding here.
-
The eyeball creates reality???!!!
No, the perception itself.
Or the lack of it.
And...
I don't think you could call it reality.

Light would never reach the retina if travelling at light speed, it's an odd thought.
I believe you are referring to collapsing of the wave function in which electrons can act as waves of potential when unmeasured, and once measured become a distinct particle, observation crystallizes the potential outcome.
Luminal is often referred to in travelling faster then light speed, or superluminal speeds, luminal in astrophysics refers to light and in particular it;s movement.

I hope it explodes some day when Kanye is grabbing it
And let us hope Kanye is sucked into the resulting Black Hoe... ;D

Tesla was the man. Intelligence beyond belief but of course the Jewish media promotes Einstein.
If Elon Musk really isn't part of the "tribe", how long will it be before Tesla Motors is bought out and the named changed to Einstein Motors or Edison Motors?

Einstein was quite a bit beyond Tesla, there is no comparison.
Einstein tackled the hardest questions to ever face humanity, our greatest mysteries and solved them, we just now, 100 years later can test his predictions, that's pretty incredible.

I hope it selectively sucks everyone away who abuses 'social' media..

Give it another 100 years and someone else will probably have a different theory that solved the same "problems"...

Doesn't work like that, that's like saying someone will come along and usurp newton and his theory of gravity, it's the way things are, it's correct.

What's great about Tesla is he reportedly hated most people. He didn't need other people to lift his ego on a daily basis...Einstein was the opposite. Loved reading about himself and getting a pat on the back and people telling him how smart he was...Einstein didn't understand women like the rest of us. Didn't know how to relate to them but kept trying anyway just like most of us. Tesla just took himself out of the women equation. Probably knew it was a lost cause. Probably made a machine that was better than a woman for all we know...If Einstein were alive today, he'd by combing Tindr for pussy. Where as if Tesla was alive, he would have invented Tindr...

gravity itself is still undefined
we dont know shit about black hoes

Marty, do you realize that the detection of gravitational waves makes no good to you hypothesis about relativity being wrong?

Yeah, in your case it's pointless

Here is some more info regarding this subject which may be of interest describing the ultimate precision required to do this "stuff".
"Having found its first signal, LIGO is now gearing up to transform them into routine tools for astronomy.
The twin LIGO stations each pass laser light back and forth between mirrors along perpendicular 4-kilometer-long arms arranged in an L.
An incoming wave would slightly warp these arms so that one became longer or shorter than the other by only a few thousandths the radius of a single proton, altering the flight time of the light and triggering a detection.
Any number of background noises can scuttle the delicate measurement—LIGO can also hear ocean waves pounding distant coastlines, airplanes flying overhead, and even the seismic hum from washing machines.
We’re trying to detect something smaller than the atoms our detector is built of,” says Imre Bartos, a LIGO member and lecturer at Columbia University. “It doesn't sound believable, to be honest with you.”
That LIGO can hear gravitational waves at all over the cacophony of background noise is due to both stations recently receiving a series of noise-cancelling “Advanced LIGO” upgrades that will soon make them ten times more sensitive than they were during a fruitless first-generation search that occurred between 2002 and 2010. All told, the upgrades bring the experiment’s total cost to more than $1 billion, most of it paid by the National Science Foundation. LIGO’s ultra-high-vacuum hermetic perfection, Márka quips, is “the most expensive ‘nothing’ ever made.”

All he did was make a few cars?

Although Einstein's contributions were more significant, I doubt Einstein operated under the same pressures as Tesla. While Einstein relied on previous research, pen and paper, and occasionally a talk with a fellow scientist, Tesla had to rely on funding from the likes of J.P. Morgan and George Westinghouse.

I have to mention again....Einstein was a theoretical physicist...Tesla was an engineer...Totally different aims.

Yes, Tesla would never be able to keep up mathematically with einstein, the only person who could was Godel.

This is cool.
