Headed to Munich and Prague in April and need to book my ticket. I usually fly Delta, but the first class tickets are $7,000. I saw where Continetal/United has business class tickets for $3,600. I don't want to piss money away, but don't want to be uncomfortable either. Any Americans fly to Europe and what airline do you use when you fly first/business?
Side note, wtf is Emirates? Shit is like $30k for a first class ticket from DC. Is Jennifer Aniston your personal fluff girl or something?

Virgin Upper Class all the way.
If you end up taking a BA flight look up the AA partner flight as for business class (first class I assume is the same) you'll save a few grand for exactly the same flight and seats.

I'd rather fly out of Atlanta or New York. I think Virgin only flies out of DC. Are their planes nice? I've never flown them before.

they are very customer focussed will make you feel like a king
-
I prefer to be amongst the people.
-
Business I've always liked United. Plenty of room on the long haul wide bodies.
That said, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Lufthansa are all fantastic. First class on any of them is an absolute pleasure.

No idea.
Terrorists don't seem to give a shit when they hijack a plane.

Business and first are vastly different. AA doesn't have first class. Only business. BA does. I found the best seat on the plane was the exit row upstairs on a 747. About 9 feet of legroom.
-
As a getbigger, I just take my private jet everywhere.
-
Just a cursory google of first class flights Houston to Amsterdam versus sardine class is that first class is fully nine times more.
$800-$1200 sardine....$9000 for first class.
-
Emirates first class is pretty good along with Qatar, they really are a class on their own, Cathay pretty good as well. My corporate gig used to get me business which I would occasionally upgrade to First with points, I could never justify paying it. Stateside I've flown American business earlier this year LA to New York, new plane as comfortable as any other business class going around in my opinion, get an old plane and it makes for an overpaid coach experience, use flight number and seat guru in an attempt to get better value but there's no guarantees as planes get swapped all the time.
-
Spend a few extra dollars and get you a Bose system.
-
Emirates is probably the best I've been on.
-
United has this new program where you can upgrade to a private jet for cheap. Apparently they lose money flying them back empty from places and realize just like uber that they can recoup some money from paying passengers.
-
Seconding the fans of Emirates. Exceptionally good, even economy is very doable if you fly an A380.
-
Honorable mention: Singapore Airlines is very good too, as is Malaysian Airlines -- provided they stay aloft.

are you paying yourself?
Would never spend my own money on flying first class :)
just about what you are into, and what you value splurging on, I guess.

Yes, but it's my business and it's a business trip so I can at least write it off. I'm 6'4" and a bit of a soft 240 at the moment, so I won't fly coach.

I thought all getbiggers had their own private jet ;D

You know you're a getbigger when you mention 240 and Coach in the same sentence.

Falcon Airlines is the best.
Been around for years (very trustworthy) and more often than not you get to meet the owner Marton F.
Pillow is shaped like a worn heavybag making the trip real comfy.
Food is usually good (Kale Greens and Sea salt is a staple)
If you have trouble sleeping, the owner puts on a boxing-glove and knocks you out enabling you to get a full rest the whole journey.
This method is called PovertyBag Express which makes it feel you are instantly reaching your destination.
Very cheap as well!

Too bad their jet fuel smells like turpentine, and the steward was obese.

Other than different cosmetic interiors and a few differences in the service options they offer you, most airlines First Class and Business Class are the same. The extra inch or two are not going to make a difference overall. (Not like they would in coach). You will have plenty of room.
Every time I have flown first or business class, I simply put on my noise canceling head phones, and go to sleep. What the plane or flight attendants look like or what different snacks or movies they offer make no difference then. If you are purchasing your ticket, I would say go with the most price effective one.
-
Are Mesa or Lufthansa decent airlines? Lufthansa was the cheapest.

Going out on a limb and guessing "at the moment" is give or take the last five years.

In getbig years, "at the moment" easily translates to the last 10+ years.
-
I'm too poor for first class international air travel!! Yikes!

No, now, just a bit soft. If I could trust you I would send a pic. It's the least I could do after my failed Y Board diet thread. ;D

Not true at all man. Business class on most American based airlines are nothing more that 1 1/2 coach seats. They're a lot better on international airlines, but first class is a beast upon itself. Full privacy, bed seats, better food, dom perignon etc...

This puts me in a bit of a bind. I am completely trustworthy, but my only way to prove it is to get a pic sent to me of a dude on the internet.
Hmmmmm.

don't forget the in-flight snack consisting of weed mixed with pcp that the stewardess, who is a former stripper, has mixed.

Luftwaffe is certainly good enough. Not spectacular, but decent. Better than Delta IMO.

You really don't need first class IF you know the "secrets" of how to kill the bulk of the travel time being asleep...
1) DO NOT have any caffeine that day, no morning java, no Cola, green tea, NOTHING but water.
2) Keep a small pack of sleeping tabs (non prescription, BUT if you have prescription ones, make sure you have a copy of the prescription from your Doc) in your pocket, they are LEGAL everywhere.
3) Take 1 or 2 with WATER and put on your NECK PILLOW and then see you later in around 9 hours!!!

If you've been using caffeine regularly, though, that will put you in a terrible mood with a potential headache to make it even worse.

Cracking one off usually helps. If the stewardess is hot ask for help.

Wife and I spent ten days in Prague in January. We flew coach, spending thousands on first class just wasn't happening. Flying was brutal, three planes and over thirteen hours in total.

I used to travel a lot. Our group admin would book the trips. She used to get a lot of upgrade vouchers from the travel agency and the execs would hoard them. One night I fucked her raw, after that she started giving me upgrades for every trip. Was basically First or Business ever other week. First time on International First I noticed how much sexier the flight attendants were. Then they come around and offered me Dom Perignon. I looked at the drink menu and saw they offered Blue Label. Was fucking heavenly. Was fucked up 2 hours into a 13 hour flight. I started to chat up the flight attendant. Part way through the flight they get a couple hour break where they expect the passengers to sleep. We basically chatted for a few hours and she gave me her number and told me to call her since she'll be in town a few weeks, I told her which hotel I was staying at. Arrived 5 AM, stayed away all day, then got into bed to sleep around 8 PM and the hotel phone rings. I tell her I'm in bed but she can come up if she wants. She was there in 5 minutes. I left the door ajar so she didn't have to knock. She comes in and sits at the end of the bed. I tell her I'd get up by I sleep in the nude, she said she didn't mind and then joined me. Fucking awesome. Best trip ever. Something I would have never had happened if I flew coach.

Some of the most gorgeous (and professional) flight attendants I've ever seen work for Asian airline companies.
-
I was spoiled in the past, its been a while but I've travelled first class internationally on:
British Airways (Serving caviar as soon as you take your seat)
Air France
Emirates
Qatar Airways
Lufthansa
Iberia
Virgin (can't remember if this was business or first)
KLM
Alitalia... Still sucked
Business class on:
Singapore Airlines
British Airways and Lufthansa stick out the most, as does Singapore business...
The way I explain to people who have never traveled on first is:
Flying on Economy is just miserable as fuck
Flying on Economy Plus makes the trip a little more bearable
Flying on Business class makes the flight extremely comfortable
Flying in First class makes you actually look forward to the trip, it's like the spa in the sky. (But truly excessive and over the top, honestly, business class is more than just fine)

Singapore Airlines has one size for their Flight Attendant outfits. Basically if you can't fit into it then you're too fat to be one.

First class is a rip-off unless you've truly got money to burn. Get Xanax/Ambien from your doc, and sleep through the flight in coach/business. Spend the money you saved on a nicer hotel/restaurants
-
Which air service do you guys use to fly in your fish from Seattle every month?

No one should ever pay full price for what they ask. Free upgrade or a cheap one at the gate is the only time.
-
Flying Lufthansa. Never flown them before, hopefully it's as nice as Big Ach says.

Yes, that night and each time I returned then her flights changed to SFO instead of LAX and I stopped hearing from her.

Flying Lufthansa. Never flown them before, hopefully it's as nice as Big Ach says.
I remember on Lufthansa first class starting to fall asleep in my lay flat bed and without asking, the flight attendant comes over and takes out a blanket, covers me with it and then proceeds to tuck me in, literally tucking me in and making sure the blanket was all tight around me.
And to those saying the attendants are hotter on first class, that's completely false, normally it's the older staff because they want the most experienced attendants catering to the cream of the crop!
On Virgin business class one of the flight attendants was a female competitive bodybuilder and after we started talking and bodybuilding and competing she kept getting me all these healthy low fat low carb dishes and I was like, no no no you have me all wrong sweetheart! Lol

In my defense I wasn't uber off season as I normally am, but I sure as hell didn't want to eat healthy on an 8 hour flight.

For domestic USA...I miss Muse Air...First Class was only 25 percent more.

Jet blue just launched mint class for cross country flights, looks to be very competitive with international first or business
