Don't forget the importance of the "zero-willpower" gene. Fucking Galeniko (pbuh) used to chew on coffee beans and smoke cigarettes to keep himself from going bananas on food. That's willpower.

LOL
you think that's willpower?
try doing it all with NOTHING. no caffeine, no nicotine, no fitness whores, no "cheat meal", no juice, and no getbig cheering you on...
regarding the op:
all the hormone stuff is very interesting. but can anyone use it for a "practical application"? i practically went crazy reading veritable tomes of text on this stuff from the "experts" over at bbing.com.

Leptin insensitivity isn't new science but I wonder how many people it actually affects. There are other cool dietary hormones (grehlin (sp?), substance Y), stretch receptors in the stomach, and thalamic nuclei.
At the end of the day: 95% of obesity is related to diet.

you're always hungry because subconsciously you're either:
1) secretly gay and are overcompensating
or 2) there is no #2...you're gay

It's 100% diet related.

The 5% of people with conditions affecting their metabolism/eating would have died or been killed.

I still think there is a practical application for things like this to result in a pill that causes you not to be hungry or care about food at all. It seems right now all we have are various forms of speed passed off as appetite suppressants.
No fitness whores?????

I always fall back to this premise when I start over complicating things.
