Dorian Yates is referred to as a blue collar bodybuilder. Shelby Starnes and John Meadows have a podcast called Blue Collar Muscle.
With that said, what makes a white collar bodybuilder?
I'm thinking Phil Heath and Jay Cutler are white collar--likely cologned and smelling like roses throughout the workout, little strain, pump/high-rep training, sets stopping short of failure, moderate weights, no busted joints or crippling afflictions, and ultimately come out of the bodybuilding journey unscathed, "marketable".
Blue collar: busted joints, every sort of side effect imaginable, heavy weights with low reps, sets to failure, permabulking, HIT/DC training for some, spider and varicose veins in places other than the legs where they are usually not found, handicapped post-bodybulding, socially stunted, dabbling in powerlifting, "unmarketable".

pretty much nailed it.
to qualify you need to be seen as "puttin in work" consequences be damned.
a few muscle tears goes a long way to establishing "cred"
such is the life of a blue collar anything.
-
It's a lot like the WWE -- you just pick a persona and play it up.
But it's all bullshit.

Flex Wheeler = white collar
Chris Cormier = blue collar

You started this same damn thread two months ago.

We did not cover white collar.
-
the rise of the so-called "blue collar bodybuilder" is correlated with it's descent into a degenerate cult

Yes, it was covered. Your first post in the last thread flipped the order of your first post in this thread. The same names and definitions were thrown around. ???

I did not follow my previous one as I should have.
You actually remember this shit? ;D

LMFAO! Golden post! :o

Flex Wheeler = white collar
Chris Cormier = blue collar
Cormier was a total diva.
Hardcore? He could incline (partial reps) a lot (like Levrone), but really, what else? I remember that pictorial in FLEX featuring Chris "squatting" 675. Yeah, right. There's more depth in my bank account.
Just another all-drugs creation, spatterings of tough training sessions here and there during his reign. During which, I might add, he was involved in all manner of less-than-honourable activities.
Never forget him calling the MMI offices and crying about us printing news about his domestic assaults.
Greasy turd.

Jay Cutler already had a 7 series BMW when he was a young kid. Branch Warren is also rich.

Chris Cormier = blue collar
But they worked out together, both liked to wear the same clothes, and even got tatted on their traps.

Still, they had different perspective on life.

Interesting post and seems to be accurate lol. Blue collar bodybuilders seem unsociable and more angry at the world even act as if they are 'owed' something from non bodybuilders.

All you have to do is skim the thread to see this stuff. You continued replying to people up until the thread died. It was barely 60 days ago.

Although Branch Warren would be considered a white collar worker (he owns his own business), he is still considered a "blue collar bodybuilder." I suspect this has to do with where he trains (metro flex) and his word ethic.
The relationship between ones actual job and bodybuilding is very complicated.

Thanks!
So it's a mindset, whether someone is blue or white collar, not that they actually work a blue or white collar job. I assume that pro bodybuilders cannot hold blue collar jobs considering sometimes erratic schedules, overtime, and interference with lifting.
What are the reasons blue collar bodybuilders are angry? I think it's generally true, with the exceptions of John Meadows and Shelby Starnes, who, although seeming like full weirdos, also seem like nice guys and not angry.

I might go as far to say daddy issues :D

What compels anyone to inject themselves with illegal, questionably sourced chemicals? Deep seated insecurities, in most cases

Lots of lies in this thread. Blacks cannot be blue collar because blue collar denotes a redneck or backwards ass white guy who lifts heavy and drives a truck. See Branch Warren.
-
LOL @ 'socially stunted". I laughed pretty loud there.

"Blue Collar" is not another term for "redneck"

Good! :)

White collars use pharma grade steroids
Blue collars use underground chinese powder coktails.
Both need drugs to be bodybuilders and their feces smell the same.
-

It's a term for men who get their hands dirty at work. In bodybuilding it would be a guy who does heavy basics vs shiny machine exercises.
That said, bodybuilding has always had a negative connotation. When I started lifting in the early 1980s and people started noticing, the most common thing I heard was, "You don't want to get like Arnold Schwarzenegger."

Interesting photo. It looks strangely obscene.

I arranged this photo shoot!

Tom and I were yammering and I came upon the "The Quadfather" thing. Platz was getting back into shape (just for kicks, as it turns out) so I arranged a photo shoot for MuscleMag featuring him as ... The Quadfather.
Hence the getup.
Tom's one of my oldest bodybuilding influences/heroes. When him and I finally met/hung out, it was like a damn dream (no homo). He always treated me very well. Solid dude.

Blue collar intimates a job, hence Hebrews are not considered for qualification.

Any amount of protein over 1g/lb of bodyweight renders 1.5 times the results.
Forced reps up to 10% of the entire set are matched by the gym and the results of which are seen after you retire (see Ronnie Coleman).
Your training results actually all occur on Friday ten days after the training week ends.
At the beginning of tax season file your training results with your gym and about 3 weeks later you'll gain another 10-20lbs overnight depending on how many dependants, or training partners, you have.
If faulty equipment at the gym causes you a muscle tear, the gym will have to pay for the equivalent of lost muscle mass in synthol as compensation.
Do not make posts about the gym on social media without prior permission.
