Title: is alcohol in moderation good for clearing plaque/fat out of arteries

Alcohol in any from in the amount of 1oz. per day has been shown to raise HDL's 3-5 points in some.  Not to significant imo  ::)  Just another way scientific research has been used to rationalize our bad habits.

Actually no...  it's not true for all alcoholic beverages.
I don't remember the name, but the molecule that it is supposed to help the cardio-vascular system is found only on wine (especially red).

Look it up Tigerman... its not the tanins or polyphenols in red wine that are responsible for the hike in HDL's. Those are anti-oxidants.  The other molecule is alcohol.

After a quick research I found the name of the compound, Resveratrol. It is found in the skin of the red grapes. That's why I said wines. Other alcoholic beverages don't contain this molecule. This is for your reference:

On the other hand, sean, you are probably right and maybe alcohol in itself has similar effects for HDL...

i also ask this cause  i eat alot of fatty foods and drink malt liquor about a 40 oz per day, and im wondering if the alcohol pushes the fat through the system out of the arteries?
