I was reading this weekend that the PTP in the republican party are looking at screwing over Trump even if he wins the nomination. it seems that even if he gets the delegate counts needed before the Republican Convention that they can still not declare him the nominee. If he doesn't secure the nom but leads in delegates they are sure to not declare him the winner. Some talks are about a new nominee being picked that wasn't even part of the original stooges that started this race. Are the republicans ready to roll on Trump and democracy to ensure he doesn't represent their party?
-
Democracy has nothing to do with any of it. You've been misinformed.
-
I'm not sure of the details on how they can not pick him as the nominee if he gets the delegate counts but apparently they can during the convention this summer. How is that even possible? They'd rather pick a nobody and lose to Hillary than let Trump potentially win and destroy the party.
-
This would alienate moderates but not the far-right base.

It's essentially cutting of their nose to spite their face. They might look at it as the only way to save the "conservative" party for the future.
-
I said this before, and although it sounds VERY conspiracy theory-like, I can't imagine the republican party giving him the nomination. Something will happen--polls will be rigged or something.
-
Yes, the rumors of Paul Ryan being the secret candidate for the Republican party.
There's no secret candidate. Just a reality tv world voting for a reality tv candidate.

A lot of people are feeling the same way you are about the Trump situation.

The establishment has to protect itself.
Trump isn't representative of any of their hardcore, "Left Behind" values. He's essentially a joke and everyone thought he'd get bored and then other candidates would be able to have serious discussions. No telling why the leadership thought the ultimate attention-whore would get bored with attention.
Ultimately: The political parties are the problem, not candidates. You can't have a two party system with no difference between them other than abortion and gay marriage and think people in the middle are going to be energized or think anything will change.

It seems that the person that secures the delegate nomination heading into the Republican Convention this summer usually gets the party's endorsement to run for Pres but its not 100% guaranteed that they have to pick you despite you getting the delegate count. Just how the dems have Super delegates up front where the party is essentially picking Hillary, the republicans save the super delegates for their big convention. This is just showing everyone what a sham politics are.
-

I can picture it now: something goes wrong with the polls, Trump has health problems and needs to pull-out, etc. I just can't see it happening, i.e, the republican party not trying to manipulate this whole ordeal.

To be honest, its all very confusing to me. Why are politicians trying to win different states now if it doesn't matter? I thought it was the states (people voting) who determined who had the republican and democratic nomination for president?
And, yes, politics are a sham.
Anyway, this is why Ive only voted ONCE in my life time. And it was not for Obama, so I cannot be blamed for that one. :D :D

u need around 1200 delegates to win the nomination out right. It's gonna be close. If u don't win 1200 you don't win the majority. Under 1200 is just below half the delegates. If u don't win 1200 the party says that u didn't win the MAJORITY.
There were so many people in the race the votes are spread around so much.
So let's say in some states where trump won 40% The party is arguing that 60% still don't like him. The more choices you have to vote for the more the Vote is spread around so even in the states where he had landslides theyre still arguing that the majority of Republicans don't like him
That's why many are saying That Rubio n kaesich stay in the race even though they don't have a chance in hell of winning the nomination outright. In fact I think it's mathematically impossible now even if Kaesich were to win Ohio for him to get 1200 delegates because he's not allowed to compete in PA because he did not have his paperwork in on time. So if he stays in we know that it's just to spread the vote around and keep trump from getting the majority and hope for a contested convention. If u are still in and have hardly any delegates and no one won over 1200 delegates then they can choose who they want.
Ex: trump 1,100 delegates. Joe blow 30 delegate.
Congrats. We nominated joe blow!
Had to fix all the typos. Text to speak. I'm beginning to think apple products do suck

CNN made strange point that although Trumps leads Cruz in delegate counts that Trump has a tougher road to win the nomination and needs to win 54% of the upcoming contests where Cruz only needs to win 51%. All of this is just bullshit. I hate the state by state bullshit. Just have them add up all the votes at the end and show something like Trump got 12 million votes and Cruz got 11 million overall so Trump is the nominee. Not this delegate and winner take all state bullshit.
Is America the only "democratic" country where the person with the most votes still loses? Like Gore did to Bush.
-
Yup it's all bullshit. But it always was. Remember candidates used to shoot at each other. No worries.
Twas ever thus.
Nothing changes. Just enjoy the ride. Our grandkids will be bitching about the same shit.
-
If trump has 50%+ of the delegates going into the convention, it's his nomination. If he has less than a majority, that's where the brokered convention shenanigans happen.

Good point Doc. Trump is Hillary in sheep's clothing. His stances mirror hers, and he says nothing of substance during his events. I would rather have Ted Cruz represent and lose. At least he, like Sanders, has conviction in his belief. I feel that Hillary will say whatever the fuck she needs to get elected. Moreover, she will tell poor dumb blacks whatever they want to hear to get their vote. In the end, in 2020, blacks will be as poor and welfare dependent as ever, but that is the Republicans fault. Whatever man, I want a fiscal conservative who is socially responsible. A candidate should not give a shit about abortion, etc. Immigration is doomed to fail. Hell, half of the Southern businesses would go out of business if you deported the illegals. In fact, the illegals work harder than born and bred Americans. It is a damn riot.

They are really trying to stop him. If they do this to him, they will hand the election to the Dems.
-
Hopefully Ted Cruz wins, he's the only one that till cares about the constitution. Liberals just want to shit all over it. But overall all these candidates suck, even Cruz.

Hard to imagine as smart as you are that you actually believe this, maybe I misjudged you? I also don't understand why anyone would pay you to shill on this board.
Why would all elements of the MSM be unified in trying to stop Trump if he was going to throw the election for Hillary? Why is she doing all she can to disparage him?

I watch MSNBC each morning. They LOVE trump. He calls in 2-4 times each week. Every week, they're "outraged" and every week they forgive him. They declared him the likely nominee about 3 weeks ago. They call it inevitable now.
For whatever reason - they want hilary to face Trump. I dont watch msnbc that much during day, but I like to wake up to hear trump speak each morning.

i also listen to fox news radio during the day. sometimes beck in AM. almost always rush then hannity at 3. Anytime I'm on the road, it's nonstop Levin... he's my favorite by far. completely willing to bitch out ANY candidate.

The only thing the Republicans can do is pull the rug from on top of Trump.
This election is all about anti-establishment. Anyone fucking with that can expect a defeat.

Puhleeze. Those same "top republicans" thought that Bob Dole and John McCain were just what the electorate wanted. Maybe they should go back to their day jobs.

McCain-Finegold(sp?) would have taken too much power away from lobbyists. He had no chance of becoming president.
-
Republican Leaders have started. Stated today they won't consider the nominee. They realize Trump is going to win and they're not going to support him. Democracy in the republican part is dead.
-
Sad to hear these predictions, sounds like you guys don't really believe in your democratic system either.
Sweden is a joke when it comes to democracy. Anti-establishment (Sd) gets shafted and downplayed any way possible by politicians and media.

She's already got your vote anyway, what do you care?
-
It would be self-destructive and affect future primaries. Also, there's a chance Trump voters would dedicate the next 4 years to making changes in the House and Senate.
He could also choose to run as a third party candidate. I think people would forgive going back on his word to support the Republican nominee if they pull shenanigans.

Agree, but this will make Hillary win for sure. It will split the vote too thin.
