Only ever done them palms up and down style... which muscle of the forearm does this isolate? Time for me to make some more gains? :D

U lookin' for forearm gains, brah?
Hold weight in contracted position for a count of 5. 10 reps, work it in with tricep and bicep routines.
I've been doing this for the last 5 weeks and my forearms look improved and I'm doing 20+ chinups at bodyweight for 3 sets. I only do overhand grip, but doing both would probably be beneficial.

A chin up with an overhand grip is a pull up.

Was actually referring to wrist curls there. I only do overhand wrist curls, but underhand would probably be beneficial, too. Sorry for any confusion.

Gotcha...
I used to do wrist curls a bunch years about, but then realized getting rid of straps and such eliminated the need to do any direct stuff. Just carrying heavy combined with weighted pullups and such seems sufficient.

Honestly, until recently, I never really believed in direct wrist work, either. I always wanted that Lee Priest forearm look and did wrist curls religiously for almost a year a while back. I didn't notice too much progress, I never really "felt" it in my forearms and weight just seemed too easy to handle. Decided that heavy back work was more efficient and effective and cut them out.
I posted a thread a little while back about pausing at the top on calf exercises and the improvements form doing that were so drastic for me that I decided to try it out on forearms. For the first time, I'm starting to believe my forearms might catch up with my upper arms.

Wouldn't the rom be less than half an inch?
-
Used to do them as part of forearm/grip workouts. Did them either with weight just on one side of the dumbell or with mr wrist roller (stuck an eye in one end so I could attach cord and a plate).
Did them most recently for tennis elbow rehab.
IMHO not a movement that lends much to hypertrophy but will definitely add to your overall forearm strength.

only when banging a midget

hammer curls are way more effective and natural feeling.
but like al said above, gripping a super heavy weight will build forearms as fast as anything. my buddy used to do 8 plates aside deadlifts with no wraps and his forearms were almost as big as mine with no direct forearm training.
