Turn it around, I don't want to train in a place where everyone is socializing or playing with their phone all the time.

Marbella is a place for very rich.
Cool gym, posh.
-
All refurbished equipment except for the crossfit racks. Smart guy.

Why? Who cares? If you're focused on your own workout, it shouldn't matter. I train in a gym like that and I get in the SAME exact workout as I did training in more hardcore gym. Ive trained in dumps and high class places where people are socializing. My workouts were no different. Weights were the same. The pump was the same. It has absolutely no affect on my workout whatsoever.

Ya i agree. I hear this all the time. Never bothers me at all in fact I like it get out of my way. Once my headphones go on I don't notice a thing around me.

different people react to different stimuli differently.
for example, i don't get "pumped up" at all listening to music during a workout, unlike most people, and i like to work out in a cleaner gym. dingy dungeon type places depress me. maybe you're better at "tuning it out" than me.

I need to find some of those Flex plastic logo stickers for my equipment. Any ideas?

I disagree. You can be extremely focused on your workout and the behavior of others can still be an irritating distraction. Just from a practical standpoint, people who are more interested in selfies and texting frequently occupy machines for long stretches of time without using them. Today was my leg day and I used our apartment building gym instead of my "hardcore gym".Just like anytime I workout here on a weekday after work, it was an unusually irritating workout. Casual gym-goers are especially lacksadaisical with leg equipment and that just doesn't seem to be the case at any of the more fitness focused gyms I have worked out at.
That's just from a practical standpoint. Getting an effective workout is largely about getting into a certain vibe. That vibe is different for everyone. Some people are able to get into that vibe easier in fancy fitness centers, others find it easier to get into that vibe at more hardcore gyms.

Many of the people at my gym text on their cell phones while working out on a machine (leg machines). :D :D
I think things like this may be distracting if youre a beginning. But if youve been doing it for a while, and you know what youre doing, you get in and you get out. Its never bothered me none. To each their own.

Very noice gym. Where the fuck is Marabella?
And who are the drug dealers who funded this thing?
-
Looks like an upscale Planet Fitness where he covered the lunk alarms with pictures of himself
-
I wonder if Ronnie had ever thought about opening a gym. Call it "Yup, Yup!"

I also do not like listening to music when I work out. I would prefer no music at all, which is why I don't wear headphones. Plus, the wire from the headphone always annoyed me.

So many people who don't know who Dorian will walk into that gym and see a picture of him on the wall and think "wow that guy is massive". Then little Dorian will walk up an introduce himself as the owner. Many will never believe that it's the same guy on the wall...

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Who's funding this? Are they really looking at the Dorian Yates brand as a potential upscale chain?

Damn, groink is not making any business deals these days. :-\ :-\ :-\

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Who's funding this? Are they really looking at the Dorian Yates brand as a potential upscale chain?
you have a good point there al, i seriously doubt dorian has the funds to open a gym, the cost of opening one is monstrous these days.

I hear you, but not everyone is capable to focus on his workout in any environment.
-
IF a gym has all the right equipment, and a minimum number of modern day fukk-tards, then its a good gym...
-

LOL I'm sure you were on pins and needles wondering about this like I was, so I've got some potentially interesting news!
Yates licenses out the Temple Gym name for a $25,000 flat fee and a $500 administrative fee. It's right on the Temple Gym website, which is pretty unusual. I've never heard of any company making their licensing fees so public. It's actually easier finding licensing fee information than it is finding any info on the gym.
(I could not find any info on the actual number of Yates affiliated Temple Gyms.)
So, it's possible that DY Gym is a new licensing venture. Does he live in Spain now? I guess that would make it more likely that he's helping to operate it, but he almost certainly has business partners who are looking towards expansion.
-
Yates is loaded and its his own gym.
-
Have to say, the gym looks really nice. Even I would look good in the mirror under those lights 8)
Love the blu/grey colors too

I believe a better frame could have been used for those medals.

How about the frame on his HIT training certification?

fuck ikea
-
How about the frame on his HIT training certification?
Yes, I would have chosen a black frame, with a blue background for the medals. Wood/green combo is criminal for such a coveted item.
-
Good for him! Great to see another legend made it through BB alive and well.
-

His supplement line is still in existence, but it isn't carried in stores and it's sold on separate websites for US and British territories and he spends the majority of his time in Spain. That strongly suggests it's mostly a licensing business.
There's nothing wrong with licensing. It can be very lucrative and it's smart to leverage risk and partner with someone when starting a business that requires a lot of upfront capital. I'm just sort of a business-minded guy and I'm always curious about the specifics when "names" start business ventures. Especially fitness industry names, and especially if it looks like it was executed well. In most cases, fitness or otherwise, the name doesn't have a lot to do with the execution. Like that Mike O'hearn frog machine- he was a name brought on to promote after it was developed.

Gym looks like it would be packed with 30 to 40 people training at the same time. Is this one of those gyms that charge over $100 a month?

Dorian Yates and his Aston Martin will fit into the Marbella lifestyle. Props DY. I hope he will be successful with this new gym.

Just from a practical standpoint, people who are more interested in selfies and texting frequently occupy machines for long stretches of time without using them. Today was my leg day and I used our apartment building gym instead of my "hardcore gym". My building is somewhat upscale and the "fitness center" is operated by an outside company called La Palestra- the point being it's yuppie-ish, not hardcore clientele. Anyway, just like anytime I workout here on a weekday after work, it was an unusually irritating workout. Casual gym-goers are especially lacksadaisical with leg equipment and that just doesn't seem to be the case at any of the more fitness focused gyms I have worked out at.
