i honestly thought this thread was about koran, not the bible

marty, ur question is suprisingly detailed and deep, why don't you contribute to the thread "so why doesn't god appear every now and again?" because the greatest analyst of religion "sf1900" is bringing new concepts there every day, new angles that have never been heard of, but you could teach him.. go man... GO!

Maybe there are other Gods.
christianity claims its god is the highest, for the christiam god allowing himself to be jealous raises suspicion and seems such a petty thing because even a human can tame his jealous instincts

what about islam?

Has no trinity. It's one of the reasons some of them argue Christianity is polytheistic.

To be fair.  I don't blame God for being Jealous of you.  Think about this.  If God is so great then why does he think so small minded as people do?

Maybe God's jealousy is somehow connected to Lucifer's supremacy.

That's the eternal question but I guess, religion and company is just a model to cope with the unfathomable.
Texts are most likely full of made up scams so the good vs. evil theater can go on without end... just like in politics.

according to the bible god gets "jealous" over certain things.

jealousy seems petty , why is god afflicted with a petty emotion?, jealousy doesnt feel good, but god is allowed to feel all things....but jealoussness is still petty maybe its something more to god and afterall he makes the rules,so maybe not petty to him

Certain things or is it one thing in particular?

If God is a righteous God and transcends the shortcomings of humanity would it be reasonable to prescribe to him the same petty jealousies humanity espouses?

Or would it be reasonable that his jealousy is more significant and warranted?

The implication within human jealousy is often envy or our strong desire or need for something.

Yet, God needs for nothing and he certainly needs nothing from us.

The jealousy of God is tied completely to the wicked idolatry of those who reject him.

Is it the petty jealousy expressed in mankind in which we covet those things that don’t belong to us?  Materialism and/or lust?  No.

God is jealous for all that belongs to him and there’s nothing wrong with that.  Like a husband that becomes jealous of another man that makes advances upon his wife.  That type of jealousy is completely appropriate.

In second Corinthians Paul notes the jealousy of God and his relationship to his bride the church:

2 Corinthians 11:1-3
11 I hope you will put up with a little more of my foolishness. Please bear with me. 2 For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ. 3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.

God's jealousy is a righteous jealousy because yearns for those that reject him and adopt wickedness.  God's church is his and his alone and it's that fellowship he desires and worship of the church that he is absolutely worthy of.

Exodus 34:14
Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 4:24
For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Psalm 78:58
For they provoked Him with their high places and aroused His jealousy with their graven images.

God is jealous and angry over that which divides him from his creation....his body of believers.  Those that turn to false gods and idols (and the perverted form of worship therein) arouse in God a righteous anger and jealousy.  It's a rejection of everything for the sake of nothing that God despises.

The jealous God of the old testament is not the God Jesus was talking about and represented. Completely different. One is based in fear and paranoia the other in reality.

A god that instructs that we must live in fear under him, that is jealous of the diversity of his own creation, that requires sacrifices to appease him so he does not punish us for offending his fragile self image.

You seem to have difficulty  grasping  and dealing with this Johnny. If you had children and they went to another man calling him father and doing things for him they should be doing for you, when you've given them everything, you'd be jealous all of us would. That's how The Most High feels when his Hebrews go off worshipping other gods that are not gods. Your focus should be on him on pleasing him. His will be done. When you go off into idolatry, it takes you from  his Commandments and from the right way man should be living. It is the duty of man to fear God and keep his Commandments. One of those Commandments is that though shall not have any other gods. It's not up for debate.

So I have a few questions:

What is the fear of God?
What is the jealousy of God?
Why were sacrifices required?

So I have a few questions:

What is the fear of God?

a state of fear within the human being who is living without peace in his soul and has yet to develop love for god.

What is the jealousy of God?

a human projection set in scripture so as to be able to continue living as an ignorant deluded being rather than truly surrender and wake up to the glory of the living One

Why were sacrifices required?

because people carried around ideas in their head about god and his nature rather than becoming empty of all ego and concepts to directly understand that the only sacrifice the Divine accepts is made out of love, from love to love, from the one to the one thus healing the souls division.

So I have a few questions:

What is the fear of God?

It is the recognition of God as ruler rather than man and living your life according to his will and in harmony with his purpose

What is the jealousy of God?

According to Biblical usage, “jealousy” may be a positive or a negative quality or emotion. (Pr 14:30; Zec 1:14) The Hebrew noun qin·ʼahʹ variously means “insistence on exclusive devotion; toleration of no rivalry; zeal; ardor; jealousy [righteous or sinful]; envying.” The Greek zeʹlos has a similar meaning.—2Co 11:2; 12:20.

Jehovah’s Jealousy. Jehovah describes himself as “a God exacting exclusive devotion.” (Ex 20:5, ftn; De 4:24; 5:9; 6:15) He also says: “Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God.” (Ex 34:14) Over what and with what kind of jealousy? Not with the envious, selfish jealousy of humans. It is a jealousy, a zeal or ardor for his holy name, concerning which he himself says: “I will show exclusive devotion for my holy name.”—Eze 39:25.

For his name. When one considers what God’s name stands for, the reason for his “insistence on exclusive devotion” becomes clear. (Eze 5:13) His name represents all that is right and righteous. He is holy, clean, upright, loyal in the superlative degree. (Isa 6:3; Re 4:8; 16:5) His sovereignty is necessary to the existence of the universe, and allegiance to his sovereignty and laws is essential to the order and peace of all creation. (Pr 29:2; 1Co 14:33) His jealousy is therefore a pure, clean jealousy and is altogether for the benefit of his creatures, as their devotion brings him—the Creator, Provider, and Giver of all good things—no profit. (Job 41:11; Ps 145:16; Ro 11:35; Jas 1:17; Re 4:11) But in his devotion to righteousness his heart is made glad with loving appreciation when his servants stand firm for righteousness and give exclusive devotion to him.—Pr 23:15, 16; 27:11.

Those serving God can rely on him to establish righteousness, being confident in his zeal for his name. He illustrated his zeal in his dealings with ancient Israel, and he tells us of the destruction of earthly governments and the establishment of the government of the Prince of Peace with justice and righteousness, saying: “The very zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this.”—Isa 9:6, 7; Zep 3:8, 9.

Why were sacrifices required?

To atone for sin, multiple were required because animal and grain offerings did not equal that which had failed i.e. Adam's once perfect live and required an equivalent ransom to satisfy that debt  which was Jesus Christ's sacrifice.. Romans 5:6-19

Likely be a raging drunk within several years. Crying nonstop and warbling endlessly that "god" has forsaken him.
