Title: Clarence Bass appreciation (Remember this guy)?
Post by: Danimal77 on April 19, 2016, 01:39:22 PM
For all of those who have old issues of Muscle and Fitness from the 70's/80's you'll remember this guy. He was once a thick powerlifter who decided to go LEAN and lean he went. Dude was short, bald as a cue ball, but ripped to shreds once he gave up powerlifting. He's still alive today (will be 80 next year). Anyway, this guy deserves recognition and respect in 2016. A couple of his heavier day pics and a couple of him in his infamous shredded days.

he made the tabata protocol famous

so famous that now soccer mom's think they are doing a form of "HIIT" just because they do crunches for 20 seconds, rest for 10 and repeat that 8 times

smh

that aside, clarence was kinda sorta against the grain on a lot of things with training and nutrition ....

btw- he wasn't "cue ball" bald....he was the un-cool "horseshoe" bald.......I still don't get guys who do the horseshoe thing

haha.. so true. Even in his younger pics, he had that horseshoe following him around like a bad curse.

Aah yes I remember Clarence Bass.
Never liked his thin / stringy look,
Though he was very ripped.

He looks good in the pic at 75.
Good to hear he is still going strong.

Made the best of his God given genetics. His books are amazing. They are as a whole the best written instruction on bodybuilding ever. He backs up almost every thing he says with research.  If you want to just start reading his stuff get Ripped II.  If you like it get all the books. His later books I'm not a fan of. It seems like it's training for senior citizens.  One day lifting and one day cardio.  The early books are gold.

I wonder what his thoughts are on the bloated messes of today's top athletes.

His books are actually pretty good.

And his old M&F column was actually informative.

Bass, Scott and Zane's columns were pretty good.
