Carscoops
Porsche released the first video footage of the new -inevitably- turbocharged 718 Cayman sports car.

Four-cylinder turbo boxer engines found their place eventually in the Cayman, with Porsche adding the ‘718’ name in the model’s designation.

Entry-level models will get the turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four unit which makes 296hp (300PS) and 280lb ft (380Nm) of torque while S models benefit from a 2.5-litre producing 345hp (350PS) and 310lb ft (420Nm) of torque.

The larger engine uses a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, a technology previously used only on the 911 Turbo, and a wastegate. Porsche says that a 718 Cayman with the optional PDK transmission is now capable of accelerating from zero to 62mph in 4.7 seconds, with S models dropping the time down to 4.2 seconds for the same procedure. Top speed is rated at 170mph for the 718 Cayman and 177mph for the 718 Cayman S.

One of the rarest models Porsche has ever made, a 1994 911 Turbo Flachbau is up for sale with 630 miles (1,013 km) on the clock.

Offered for sale by Hexagon Classics for $900,000.

You regularly see Porsche's with 100K miles on them , Ferrari's with 30K are considered high mileage !! Most owner's get rid of Ferrari's before the first major service. I love Ferrari's but Porsche knows how to engineer a car that lasts

Try this is a Ferrari

I'll agree with you that a Ferrari looks better than a Porsche and if all you did with a car was look at it, that would matter.  Also, comparing a 959 to an F40 is like comparing a C Class Mercedes to an Honda Accord price wise.  The F40 cost twice as much as the 959.

No disputing that the 959 was well ahead of its time, but from a driver's perspective I'd suggest that the F40 would still be favored overall.  It's a more pure raw driver's supercar.  Personally, I just don't think Porsche did the 959 justice with the styling.  However, the 918 is really something in looks and performance.

By John Halas, Carscoops

Powering the launch versions of the Panamera are Porsche’s new turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 and 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engines, and for the first time, a 4.0-liter V8 diesel in conjunction with permanent four-wheel drive. All engines are paired to a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a re-worked version of the previous Panamera’s all-wheel drive system.

The 2.9-liter V6 biturbo petrol engine of the Panamera 4S produces a maximum power of 440PS / 434hp (+20hp) and 550Nm / 406 lb-ft (+30Nm), enough to push it to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.4 seconds or 4.2 seconds   with the Sport Chrono Package, and on to a top speed of 289km/h (180mph). It returns a combined fuel economy of between 8.2 – 8.1 l/100 km (186 – 184 g/km CO2) representing a fuel saving of up to 1.0 l/100 km or 11 percent over the previous 4S.

Sitting at the top of the range for now is the new Panamera Turbo with a 550PS / 542hp (+30hp) and 770Nm / 568 lb-ft (+70Nm) 4.0-liter biturbo V8 petrol. With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.6 kg/hp, the Turbo hits 100km/h (62mph) in 3.8 sec or 3.6 sec   with the Sport Chrono Package, topping out at 306km/h (190mph). Porsche says it consumes between 9.4 – 9.3 l/100 km on average, or up to 1.1 l/100 km less than that of the previous model, with CO2 emissions of 214 – 212 g/km.

A new addition to the lineup is the Panamera 4S Diesel with a 422PS (416hp) and 850Nm (627 lb-ft)   4.0-liter V8, making it the most powerful production diesel Porsche ever. With a top speed of 285 km/h (177mph), it’s also the world’s fastest production vehicle with a diesel. It can reach the 100 km/h (62mph) speed mark in 4.5 seconds   (4.3 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package), while promising combined fuel consumption of 6.8 – 6.7 l/100 km (178 – 176 g/km CO2).

I really loved the Macan, but after adding a few options the price quickly jumps to over $70k.  It's fun to drive but not THAT fun.  If you want to spend that you might as well buy the Cayenne.  I passed; the Audi Q5 is basically the same car for less.  I've been very happy with it.  8)

I think everyone needs a car to dream about that is just beyond their grasp.  For me that's the Macan.

I just configured a Macan on their website (and I did it on the cheap with options I would want and use without going crazy).  Came out to $77k--and that was not even the Macan Turbo.  I suppose when you buy a Porsche, you do not care about "value" but I cannot talk myself into going there when the Q5 is a very reasonable alternative.  Plus the Macan interior feels  much more cramped than the Q5.

Cannot get with this or Cayenne or Macan.  I like the two doors best with this marque.

The four doors (especially Cayenne) are very important to their bottom line and broaden appeal to more buyers.

Great comparison and your point is well taken... but I think that IS the point: when you have excellent design to begin with (and they do) you do not radically depart from it; you do not run away from it; you do not try to reinvent it; you slowly evolve it... adding convenience options... safety features... and other technology as they are invented. BMW did this for years but Porsche is probably the best example of what I am talking about.  Fundamentally good designs age very well.  You can look at a 30 or 40 year old Porsche and still say "wow."  How many car makers can you say that about?   8)
