George Zimmerman has listed the gun with which he killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 for auction, touting it as “your opportunity to own a piece of American history”.
The former neighbourhood watch volunteer was acquitted two years ago in the death of the young unarmed African American, but the case sparked protests and a national debate about race relations.
Zimmerman listed “the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin” on GunBroker.com on Thursday, with bidding scheduled to begin at 11am EDT on Thursday.
He wrote in the item description that it had recently been returned to him by the Department of Justice and was fully functional.
“Many have expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm including the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C. This is a piece of American history. It has been featured in several publications and in current university text books. Offers to purchase the firearm have been received; however, the offers were to use the gun in a fashion I did not feel comfortable with.”
The listing was illustrated by photos of the weapon taken during Zimmerman’s trial.
The gun, a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm, was billed as a “collectible firearm” and had a starting price of US$5,000.
According to an interview with a local Fox affiliate, excerpts of which were shared on Twitter, Zimmerman said it was “time to move past the firearm, and if I sell it and it sells, I move past it”.
The Trayvon Martin foundation, set up after the youth’s death to “end senseless gun violence”, said it had “no comment on the actions of that person”.
The listing was timed to coincide with 12 months to the day since Zimmerman was shot at in Florida, allegedly by Matthew Apperson.
Zimmerman wrote that he was “proud to announce” that a portion of the proceeds raised would be used to “fight BLM [Black Lives Matter] violence against Law Enforcement officers” as well as ending the career of Angela Corey, his prosecutor – “and Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric”.
He signed off “your friend, George M. Zimmerman” and “Si vis pacem, para bellum” – the Latin adage, “If you want peace, prepare for war”.
The auction ends on Friday. Zimmerman is a verified member of GunBroker.com and listed his location as Sanford, Florida.
Zimmerman was reportedly banned from Twitter in December but used the platform to voice similar views, including an apparent reference to Martin as a “moron”, a description of the BLM movement as “black slime matters” and a retweet of a post showing Martin’s lifeless body with the caption, “Z-man is a one-man army”.
The Florida man, a Neighbourhood Watch coordinator, shot and killed Martin in February 2012 after a violent altercation in a Sanford housing community. In a police call minutes before the killing, Zimmerman said he could see “a real suspicious guy” in the neighbourhood who “looks like he is up to no good”. Martin, who was unarmed, was returning from a convenience store.
Zimmerman was not initially charged, until protests spread around the country demanding a full investigation. He successfully argued at a murder trial that he had acted in self-defence and was acquitted in July 2013. In February 2015 the federal justice department said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the 32-year-old for hate crimes.

Hah, what a piece of work this guy turns out to be.
Regardless of his culpability, auctioning it off is extremely fucked up.
-
Zimmerman does not have a bright future. Life will end badly for him.
-
the zimmerman HERO images from 333386 and others on getbig were pretty nonstop during the trial. they gloated like crazy when he was found not guilty. I heard it for days as they celebrated his freedom and shit on the kid who did flee a man 50 pounds bigger with MMA training and a gun.
dos equis still bumps every pro-zimmerman story he can find.
no matter how many women/elderly this man beats, no matter how many gun battles he enters, they don't see it.
he's just one of the biggest pieces of shit of our generation, and the internet means he just has a bigger platform for everyone to see.
doesn't end well for him, that's for sure. there will be a collective "Figures..." nationwide when this "hero" eventually murders somebody else.
-
The gun would have more value if he used it to blow his brains out.
-
Zimmermann's favorite movie must be "The Mexican" :D
-
I am shocked he doesn't include a bag of skittles with it, fucking scumbag
-
The gun would have more value if he used it to blow more ghetto chimps brains out.
Fixed.
Not much value when he only bagged one! ONE!
-
How is this guy still alive? He has been instigating this kids death for a while now yet no retaliation.

They said the same with OJ..nothing has ever happened. Both are pieces of douchery.

They said the same with OJ..nothing has ever happened. Both are pieces of douchery.
OJ ended up committing an armed robbery years later and is probably spending the rest of his life in prison.
people cannot change who they are - and national spotlight adds pressure which pushes people more. That jury on the OJ robbery case, they punished his ass for decapitating the wife a decade earlier.
Zimmerman drives around thinking everyone is out to get him - he got shot at, hit with shrapnel last year after confronting the same dude in traffic repeatedly. He smashed his own ipad to destroy video of him roughing up an old man. Preggo woman and wifey assault claims... goodness knows the little things that happen. He knows the system - counter-accuse and lawyer up. Most bad guys talk too much - zimm knows to STFU and attack, even when he's guilty as shit.
He'll continue to do this. one day, a confrontation will happen, the jury will over-punish too.
-
Lets be real, he did a great job for removing a human scum, but now hes turn to a nutjob.

i mean't real life. not the movies

Online auction halted for gun used to kill Trayvon Martin
SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — An online auction appears to have been halted for the pistol that former Florida neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman used to kill unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
The weapon was removed from the GunBroker.com website Thursday, minutes after the auction was to begin. It was not immediately clear why the website took down the listing.
Zimmerman had told Orlando, Florida, TV station WOFL that the pistol was returned to him by the U.S. Justice Department, which took it after he was acquitted in Martin's 2012 shooting death.
The auction for the 9 mm Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol was to begin at 11 a.m. EDT Thursday and end 24 hours later. The website operators did not immediately respond to phone and email messages seeking comment.
The auction listing also said a portion of the proceeds would go toward fighting what Zimmerman calls violence by the Black Lives Matter movement against law enforcement officers, combatting anti-gun rhetoric of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and ending the career of state attorney Angela Corey, who led Zimmerman's prosecution.
The listing ended with a Latin phrase that translates as "if you want peace, prepare for war."
Zimmerman, now 32, has said he was defending himself when he shot and killed Martin, 17, in a gated community near Orlando. Martin, who lived in Miami with his mother, was visiting his father at the time.
Zimmerman, who identifies as Hispanic, was acquitted in Martin's February 2012 shooting death. The case sparked protests and a national debate about race relations. The Justice Department later decided not to bring a civil rights case against Zimmerman.
Since then, Zimmerman has been charged with assault based on complaints from two girlfriends. Both women later refused to press charges and Zimmerman wasn't prosecuted. His estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman, also accused him of smashing her iPad during an argument days after she filed divorce papers. No charges were filed because of lack of evidence. They were divorced in January.
David S. Weinstein, a former state and federal prosecutor, said it appeared Zimmerman is within his rights to sell the gun through the GunBroker website. Although only licensed firearms dealers are permitted to sell guns across state lines, the auction site says it transfers weapons from sellers to buyers through licensed dealers.
"I can't think of any legal reason why he can't sell the gun," Weinstein said.
Martin's parents both declined to address Zimmerman's actions in statements made through representatives.
Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, said through an attorney that she would rather focus on her work with the Trayvon Martin Foundation than respond to "Zimmerman's actions."
Daryl Parks, whose firm represented the Martin family during the trial, is now chairman of Fulton's foundation. He says Fulton is pushing for policies that protect youth and address gun violence.
Fulton also founded the Circle of Mothers conference, a three-day event to help mothers who have "lost children or family members" to gun violence. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the event in Fort Lauderdale starting May 20.
In the auction listing, Zimmerman also rationalized selling the gun because of strong interest from collectors including "The Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC."
Smithsonian spokesman John Gibbons denied any interest.
"The Smithsonian has never expressed an interest in collecting this firearm and has no intention of collecting or displaying this firearm," Gibbons said.

me too.
he's not a typical american
Not typical at all, a Hero and a legend.
-
This guy is a piece of shit.
-
Zimmerman thought that the Smithsonian wanted to purchase and display the gun? What a moron.
-
This guy is a piece of shit.
Even if you were one that felt like his "stand your ground" actions were even remotely justifiable, his behavior since is evidence that he's just a horrible person. That gun should bought, loaded with habenero suppositiories, and repeatedly fired up his ass.
-
my brother shot some scumbag that tried to rob the pharmacy where he was working, in FL.
the cop kept stalling releasing the gun. It took 22 months. Had it gone 24, the gun would have become property of the unit that took it. It was a brand new glock. We finally had to go down there and threaten to go to the paper if the gun - used to shoot a masked armed bad guy in a completely legal shoot - wasn't released to us. The cop reluctantly gave it up. Dicks. Shady dicks. He didn't want to auction it, he just wanted his piece back.
-
Zimmerman thought that the Smithsonian wanted to purchase and display the gun? What a moron.
Bah, ha ha ha ha

Introduction
Prospective bidders,
I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon. The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012. The gun is a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm. It has recently been returned to me by the Department of Justice. The pistol currently has the case number written on it in silver permanent marker. Many have expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm including The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. This is a piece of American History. It has been featured in several publications and in current University text books. Offers to purchase the Firearm have been received; however, the offers were to use the gun in a fashion I did not feel comfortable with. The firearm is fully functional as the attempts by the Department of Justice on behalf of B. Hussein Obama to render the firearm inoperable were thwarted by my phenomenal Defense Attorney. I recognize the purchaser's ownership and right to do with the firearm as they wish. The purchaser is guaranteed validity and authenticity of the firearm. On this day, 5/11/2016 exactly one year after the shooting attempt to end my life by BLM sympathizer Matthew Apperson I am proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds will be used to: fight BLM violence against Law Enforcement officers, ensure the demise of Angela Correy's persecution career and Hillary Clinton's anti-firearm rhetoric. Now is your opportunity to own a piece of American History. Good Luck.
Your friend, George M. Zimmerman

He keeps saying its a piece of American History. What makes it a piece of American History? I mean, I guess anything is a piece of American History, depending on how its symbolized and given meaning. But when people say something is a piece of American History, it usually refers to something of great significance.

George Zimmerman is projected to make big bucks from his ongoing gun auction -- we've learned the current legitimate bid is $415,000.
A rep for United Gun Group, the site hosting Zimmerman's controversial auction, tells us the site's been flooded with fake bids -- the highest was $65 million -- but it's using software to sift through the BS offers.
The problem is you don't have to provide credit card info unless you have the winning bid. The auction's set to end Tuesday ... so, it's a safe bet there will be a ton more troll bids until then.
::) ::)
And that bid belongs to Tamir Rice
(http://a.abcnews.go.com/images/US/ht_tamir_rice_4_kb_150612_1_4x3_992.jpg)
-
It's interesting, I'd love to hear the back story on why the supposed $415,000 bidder wants the gun. Putting aside the whether you like Zimmerman or not, I just don't see the collectible value, let alone, the historic value in the gun. It's not like Jack Ruby's Colt, Ray's Remington, Oswald's Carcano, Princip's Browning, etc.... In a few years, the Zimmerman/Trayvon case will be a footnote, and not that interesting a one at that.
-
I highly doubt the $415k bid is genuine. C'mon.

Why do people always include this as if it's relevant? He wasn't some "yella" Tombstoner shootin' a cowboy in the back for bluffing a 2-7 offsuit, the punk was killing him. Illogical regressive nonsense.

Another one, but you forgot "black." Because there's some weighty emotional baggage we can stuff in there, too.
-
He chased the kid 2 blocks with a 9mm, lost a fight, and shot.
What evidence do we have that trayvon threw the first punch? THe words of Zimmerman, whose own lawyer admitted he lied as he retold the story in greater exaggeration each time?
-
Weird thing, in Florida, trayvon could have shot Zimmerman dead the moment Zimmerman caught up with him.
Ten years older, mma trained, carrying a 9mm, jumps out of his truck and chases down unarmed kid. I guarantee you, if some 250 pound mma beast with a 9mm jumps out of his car and chases me 2 blocks, there probably won't be a lot of words nor fistfighting when he finally catches me. Legal shoot of trayvon does it, oddly.

We're not hindered by such delicacies as decency.
Kerry Packer, getting ahead of his bid. No surprise, there, folks.
-
Zim is a complete asshole , but even assholes have a right to defend themselves.
but he created the situation entirely.
He jumped out of truck and chased a minor who was running away. The kid ran two blocks and hid in some bushes. ZImmerman found him - the kid was cornered at this point - and then a fight ensued. We do NOT know who threw the first punch - only zimm's claim, and he changed story several times, his own lawyer admits it.
We don't know who threw first punch. We do know that zimm chased him 2 blocks with a gun and got him cornered.
If the prosecutor hadn't gotten greedy, and would have dropped the 8 year manslaughter charge as a possibility, zimmerman would have gotten that. I think one juror even admitted they wanted to give him SOMETHING, but it was either 25 to life in prison. or he walked. There was no decade charge for a deadly situation that he really did create.
Re-enact it. Start chasing a kid into a dark alley with a gun. Lose a fight, shoot him in the chest, and what will happen? 9 times out of 10, you're going to do some time. I could have been chased and put ten rounds into him, and I would have walked - because I could have reasonably said I was in fear for my life. Stranger jumped of car in rain with gun, he's 50 pounds and ten years bigger, and he has me cornered in some bushes. Yes, that's very good ground for a legal shoot. TRAYVON MADE EVERY EFFORT TO RETREAT - AND EVEN HIDE!!!!! Trayvon could have wasted zimmerman, and he would have walked. Using his fists as a weapon instead, if he feared for his life, was arguably justifiable at that point.
DA/prosecutor blew this case. ZImmerman's "innocence" had nothing to do with it. They wanted a home run, wouldn't settle for a double.

but he created the situation entirely.

Yeah, probably. Still irrelevant. They SHOULD probably both be dead, but should and the law are often at odds.
So kill the fucker or let it go.
