Title: What's the deal with assembling things?
Post by: calfzilla on May 13, 2016, 06:28:50 PM
I hate assembling things like furniture, bbq grills, workout equipement (bidybuilding related) anything really. Any good stores or online stores that deliver shit to you assembled?

Is it difficult knowing the average boy scout possesses more man skills than you?  ;D

Don't feel bad.  It's not just you.  Most things include a prank of some kind these days.  The adventure lies in finding it.  I've seen clearance holes that the bolts just about almost fit through, if you have a hammer and a bad attitude.  Bolt threads that mesh with the nuts if the snots don't derail the operation.  I once saw a moderne arte scupture of two bolts soldered together by the galv dip.  One-way screws which will barely make it into wood (or the wood-like substance) before the phillips is entirely reamed out, if you're lucky.  (A phillips 1.5 tip seems to be the chinese standard, otherwise reach for the 2.4.)   Laminated chipboard that outgasses gawd-knows-what for weeks.  Slivers.  Swarf.  Snobs.  Grinding dust.  Things that move which shouldn't.  Things that don't move but should.  And those awesome star shaped lockish washers which apparently serve some mysterious purpose.

Happy almost inserting tab A into srot B.  If you meet with frustration, take a few minutes in a quiet location.  Listen intently.  You can hear the distant laughter of a billion little yellow pranksters.

Go to Sears and buy the floor model. They will give you a discount and it is already assembled.
I did that years ago on a new grill.

With the bigger stuff like fitted wardrobes I break my poor departed grandfathers dead heart with shame  :'( and just pay an expert...  smaller stuff I'm OK with.  Not the same but similar, is at Christmas, when it feels like 75% of the toys and games nowadays seem to require assembly.  Lazy Chinese!  ;)
