Intel spent $10 Billion trying to get into cell phones and tablets and failed miserably. Looks like they know when to quit.

Intel cuts Atom chips, basically giving up on the smartphone and tablet markets
Intel could be on the verge of exiting the market for smartphones and standalone tablets, wasting billions of dollars it spent trying to expand in those markets.
The company is immediately canceling Atom chips, code-named Sofia and Broxton, for mobile devices, an Intel spokeswoman confirmed.
These are the first products on the chopping block as part of Intel's plan to reshape operations after announcing plans this month to cut 12,000 jobs.
The news of the chip cuts was first reported by analyst Patrick Moorhead in an article on Forbes' website.

TSMC Launching 10nm FinFET Process In 2016, 7nm In 2017.
This is big news because Apple, Nvidia, Qualcomm, and many more have their CPU's fabricated by TSMC. Also, it looks like TSMC might beat Intel to 10nm transistors. It's my belief that anything smaller than 5nm will be impossible.
TSMC has announced at its Q1 2015 earnings conference that it will be bringing 10nm technology to market in 2016 with 7nm following in 2017. The company stated that it’s making good progress with its 10nm and 7nm process technologies and both are on track to meet schedule. Both process nodes are based on the high performance, low power 3D FinFET transistor technology. In addition, the company revealed that it’s already working with customers on 10nm chip designs that will go into production in late 2016

A "pentium" will still run almost anything. Microsoft managed to make a decent device somehow and its selling. I wonder how much they spent? microsoft and intel, it's like chicken and egg

Hmm, such a successful company as Intel, you'd think they'd manage to invent something revolutionary for cells and tablets.
Didn't expect them to give up on that market, what a waste.

AMD's next Zen and K12 processors sound like beasts, with up to 32 CPU and a massive GPU. The last AMD processors Bulldozer, and Excavator were dogs, but Jim Keller, the super star chip designer, is back at AMD and he's the chief architect of Zen and K12. His goal was to beat Intel's speed.
What We Know So Far About AMD’s Zen Microarchitecture
Two months later we learned that AMD was also working on a monstrous High Performance Computing APU with 16 Zen cores and a huge integrated GPU in addition to stacked High Bandwidth Memory. We also learned that AMD is planning to introduce high performance server CPUs with up to 32 Zen CPU cores. Hearing about all of those different SKUs is jolly exciting, but it was also quite frustrating as no-one really had a clear idea of what to expect from Zen. That is until AMD revealed a whopper at its Financial Analyst Day earlier this year, which is that Zen will have a 40% instruction per clock improvement over its predecessor “Excavator”.

Intel's business model's outdated and Arm's business model's too powerful. There are 320 companies that license IP's (intellectual property) from ARM. 45 billion chips have been produced using the ARM architecture including all Apple Iphones and all Samsung phones.
