Shawn Ray Interview: Kevin Levrone Is Making A Big Mistake.
Do you think Kevin's making a mistake?
-
Yep, he's right.
-
He has some good points. I never thought about the whole Don Youngblood thing too.
-
Kevin Levrone looks incredible for 52 years.
His size and conditioning looks good in those videos too.
I remember how at one stage he slimmed down massively and looked like he barely lifted any weights, and the time when he wanted to try acting, so his current condition is already a great comeback.
-
Haha. Shawn butthurt that Kevin snubbed him for an interview.
-
they all say it cant be done til it gets done!
U cant listen to the ney sayers. The world would stop spinning if we listen to peoples advice! Follow the voice inside you!
Go Kevin! Kevin is not 51. Just take a look at him! Bilogical age more like 37-40.
Why not? U live once! Make some action out of it! Sitting on a fat ass being negativ like Shawn. Better? I think is Kevin doing the right thing!
-

Your advancements in the English language during the past week have been spectacular.

The world doesn't spin. That is a lie. The earth is immovable and on 4 pillars. The sun, moon and stars move, the earth does not.
-
Kevin would be better off trying to win Mr. Niburu
-
Shawna Ray makes some valid points. However, if every person abandoned trying something due to it being against the odds, no one would ever accomplish anything. It will be a tall order for Kevin, but he's already the talk of what would have otherwise been a mundane Olympia. If he makes a good showing in his fifties, it will be a tremendous accomplishment. And he's one of the few, if not the only one capable of doing it.

Levrone's Comeback is Ronnie Approved...

But, I doubt Levrone is like Albert Beckles, who at age 61 won the 1991 Niagara Falls Pro Invitational. And was 4th at the 1984 Mr. O, 2nd at the 1985, and 4th at the 1986, allwhen he was in his 50s.
It can be done, but Albert was lighter than Kevin, and he had some serious back detail.

Here is Albert Beckles at the 1986 Mr. O

Lb. for lb. Beckles had one of the best backs of all time.Very complete from bottom to top.
-
Its not a good idea.
Been saying it since the announcement.
This isn't about "doing what they say can't be done". This, for Kevin, is about ego and fart powder marketing.
The former is not a voice of reason and the latter isn't required for fart powder sales.
He absolutely will not look as good as his worst performance, up until the O. So, as Ray asks, what's the point? By virtue of his automatic qualification, he won't have achieved anything being there, and his subpar presentation will only make him appear delusional and goofy.
Nostalgia and hunger for any kind of excitement is driving the energy from the fans.
But in the cold light of day, Kevin coming back to bodybuilding's biggest stage after being away from competition for well over a decade, and at 52, is a horrific mistake.
Leave it to Shawn to speak the straight truth.
-

I was alluding to that. If Levrone came back, truly was serious, he'd know that he would have to have a back that rivaled Phil's in terms of detail and Kai's in terms of width and thickness. Along with legs like his old self.

Yeah, I was just making a general statement. Kevin's bdb ruins any legit run for the O. It;s never been among the best. That's his flaw.
-
Yea, Shawn is right, it will be very humbling to Kevin when Brad Rowe and William Bonac place ahead of him, and GET THE CHANCE TO SAY THEY BEAT KEVIN LEVRONE.
-
Kevin will be super motivated after seeing this. No more interviews for you Sean

Kevin is making a huge mistake
-
It's not about a comeback for Levrone, it's about attention. If it's not one thing it's another with him.
-
Like Shawn said, there are things in the industry that they can't even pronounce (guessing he's referring to all of these new SARMS, peptides, etc.) you look back at the 90's and compare it to today and you see how today it's chemical warfare with what these guys are taking.
Dan Duchaine and Paul look mild if not sane compared with what's going on these days.

u have a good point there, it seems today from there videos the pros do not even train hard or with any intensity at all, it is all about drugs. etc.
i hope kevin doesnt jeopardize his health. but i really feel , this is his mind is the only way to make money now.
kevin really hasnt done much since retiriing, lets be honest here, hes never had a real job his entire life.
-
It's not about a comeback for Levrone, it's about attention. If it's not one thing it's another with him.
I think this is probably the closest thing to the truth that I've seen. He always struck me as kind of off. He's like Kai Greene in the sense he's been through a LOT. He's also accomplished a lot in bodybuilding and that should be enough. I know it's killing a lot of the guys in his generation not to have one Sandow and these people they perceive as less than having multiple wins....but you just have to move on at some point.
I bet he's lonely and he probably wants to hear the applause of the audience again. A man who is happy and fulfilled in his life would not be putting his body through that at his age. They would be enjoying their loved ones and doing other things.
I don't think it's about a supplement line. I'm sure he got paid very well by the IFBB to do this and that combined with the attention was too much to turn down.
-

Let's get real, there hasn't been any significant advancement in upper-level BB drugs in 20 years. SARMS? Lol those wouldn't do shit for an IFBB pro. Peptides? Short of IGF-1 they're worthless for a BBer of Levrone's caliber.
Sure there's new stuff out there but nothing of note, as evidenced by the pros stepping on stage today. Yeah they might be heavier but thats because they're in poorer condition.
Boatloads of AAS, GH, Slin & Synthol...that's all that's needed to max a physique out and none of those compounds are unfamiliar to Kevin
-
Kevin is the right person to do a comeback! And there is one more...Shawn Ray! Shawn would make a great comeback. Probably the best ever of all that tried! Dude have never been INGURED and seem to have nice skin. I guess he could fill up those muscle pretty well if he decide to do it!
I think Shawn and Levrone are the best former pros out there for a comeback! I really cant think of anyone else who could make it. These Negros have nice elastic skin. Shawn Ray shine like a 20 year old kid on butterdiet!

Very true. Nothing really game changing since Kevin's day.
-
Sounds like Levrone was dodging Shawn in Pittsburg
-
I have no doubt that Levrone will never set foot on stage even for a guest posing. My only question is will he even post any pictures showing anything but gym big shots before he withdraws.

Shawn Ray Interview: Kevin Levrone Is Making A Big Mistake.
Do you think Kevin's making a mistake?
I think he is correct but good luck to Kevin Levrone.
-
I just saw this on Instagram. It's from Levrone's IG. Shots Fired!!! Dexter is straight up!!!

Without gear Big Kev deflates about 50%....
-
The minute Kevin steps in that stage, the public is going to get wild. His ego is going to go to the stars. Every pose in his routine is going to be aplauded, like none of phil heath has ever been. He is going to feel like a million dollars, and he knows it. We love him, and he craves that love, one more time in his life.
It's going to be a great show, and he wants it in his heart.
Even if he dies for us bitches.

you have lost it badly my friend. take a step back and a deep breath and read what you wrote.

Dex is incorrect in a sense. Kevin Levrone was 2nd at the 2002 Mr. O, and Dex was fourth. 2003 Mr. O, Kevin was 6th and Dex was third. So, Levrone did beat him, the year before he retired. Levrone's last year, Dex beat him at the Show of Strength (Dex was first, Levrone 3rd), and the 2003 Arnold Classic, where Dex was 4th and Levrone 5th.

hey parker i have to ask,
whats your connection with bodybuilding?

I used to be really into it, even thought about competing. But, years ago realized that staying in shape is better in the long run.
-
While I hate to ever agree with this miserable little troll, he's right but did anyone see how he still managed to insert himself into the discussion.
Kevin didn't give him an interview
Kevin didn't consult him.
He's going to get last callout cause that's what happened to him at his first Mr. Olympia
All about Shawn Shawn Shawn...Some things will not change.

Yep...and there will be an "I you so".
I think Shawn is concerned to see the guys that he competed against, either wind up sick or dead. From a spectator's point of view, nobody right now, outside of Dex has the right to say, "I beat Kevin Levrone". I remember when Melvin Anthony had said that he beat Flex...when he could never beat a prime Flex, let alone even get into shape to even win an Arnold Classic.
Also, Shawn does do interviews for MD, and maybe Levrone said he would give him an exclusive interview. Since we don't know what they may have said over the phone or in DMs, we don't know if Levrone did or did not say he would consult with Shawn.

He should know by now that Kevin isn't necessarily playing with a full deck. Kevin always struck me as eccentric but this seems a bit extreme. He's right that the health tradeoffs aren't worth it nor is it worth it to get up there at 52 to try and teach these guys a lesson because you are not.
Like I said, A lot of those guys from the 90's are pissed because they see this half assed training, all these drugs and injections, lackluster stage presence and they know if they were up there they would win and blow it away....BUT their time has passed. Move on. Get what you can from your legacy and enjoy that.
People don't care for these new guys. The social media idiots are more popular than them.
I say Kevin should keep training cause he loves it, be a fine ass 52 year old man, and go find some rich woman who will love and care for him while he does his pursuits.

Listening to "these around" is usualy thebiggest mistake one can make. Unless these around are highly succesful and a "role model" of whatever a person want's to achieve. It's like... people say "Hey, chin up, be more confident, you are better than you think!", then when a person becomes confident and starts to think good of himself the SAME fukkin losers start hating on a said person, that's how it usualy goes.

and I bet Shawn is mad because Kevin still looks good at 52. Kevin is still fine and still has a great body. Shawn cannot say the same.

If Shawn was doing what Kevin is doing, he'd likely look a lot better than the "Maryland Muscle Machine".
Ray is considerably more intelligent and focussed than Levrone.

That's debatable.
I think Kevin is Eccentric while Shawn tends to be more pragmatic. I don't think it helps that people are gassing Kevin up but maybe this is better than drinking. IJS.
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard people saying he could come back and win it. No wonder everyone looks so terrible these days. These people are delusional!
-

As much as I don't give a rats ass about Shawn, he's left bbing competitions behind, hasn't really stayed in bbing shape and think he really doesn't mind or is bothered by it. If he cared he would be gassed up and trying to relive the past like Kevin, Nasser, Kamali, etc
Sure I think he wouldn't mind winning an O and still tries to stay relevant but he seems to be ok on where he's at. Levrone cannot say the same. Even tom Prince is smart after his health scare, many others get sucked right back in and it doesn't end well...

I don't mean just being stage ready...I just meant that Kevin is still looking good while Shawn has let himself go and For someone as self important, vain and narcissistic as Shawn that probably factored into his remarks. He started off by sounding all butthurt that Kevin did not grant him an interview or consult him for his opinion.
Shawn is right though. Kevin has nothing to prove and for his health's sake he doesn't need to put his body through that. I'm just shocked at all the people saying this is going to be amazing and he can actually win. To me that just proves the argument that it's all drugs.
-
You would think guys like Shawn would be In somewhat decent shape. I don't ever see letting myself go until I'm an old geezer. I thought these guys would really have it In their blood. You don't have to juice to the gills but a little trt and 4-5 days in the gym to feel good. They have amazing genetics right? What a joke. How can you go from being one of the best built men in the world to looking like a soft turd how wouldn't that drive you crazy.
-
What some of you claim is less-than-decent shape is also referred to as, no use of anabolic drugs.
Shawn is a 51-year-old man who looks fine. Could he look better?
Sure, but he likely has had his fill of stringent dietary practices, excessively regimented training, etc. And as far as the "goodies", being a smart and measured man, he probably is rejoicing in allowing his endocrine system to restore to as close to a "normal" state as can be expected.
He's secure in who he is and what he has accomplished as a bodybuilder. And why not? The man possessed one of the greatest bodybuilding physiques ever seen on a competition stage.
It's not all drugs, but without the drugs, nothing else means beans. So in a way, yes, it is all drugs.
Ray doesn't care about being snubbed by anyone. He's made an almost-career out of saying what he wants, knowing full well he could be deep-sixing a relationship. Turning people away.
He says what he thinks. And as a bodybuilder, he walked the walk.
Shawn Ray is one of bodybuilding's truest champions.

Well said. He's always been one of my favorites.
-
Kevin better get back home and get into his routine, dude is travelling around the world atm.
-
The other competitors worst nightmare is probably to be beaten by Kevin Levrone, a guy who was out of serious training for 10 years.
If the IFBB want him back for publicity, maybe he will get a respectable place?
You never know, he could come back in terrific condition, and surprise everyone.

It's obvious that Shawn was butt hurt over Kevin skipping the interview. If he had let Ray interview him, Ray would be supporting his decision.

Or at least pretended to on camera and then talked shit behind his back. It all seemed to go back to Kevin not speaking with him first and giving Shawn the exclusive. I don't blame Kevin for not talking to him.

Levrone will probably not get close to the condition he had the last 2 years of his career when he had a weak back and legs. Cut to many moons later at which time he probably will not be able to replicate the condition he had a few years short of retiring.
-
Agree with Shawn 100%. Kevin will not achieve the condition he was in at the 2003 O, which was his worst and last showing. He will be 52 when he steps on stage, with about 6 months of serious training, after 12 years of light if any training at all. Anyone in their 50's on here knows you can't replicate what you looked like in your 20's and 30's in your 50's. I don't care how good his genetics and response to gear is, it just ain't happening. I sa y he bows out and never steps on the O stage to be judged.
-

And you're severely emotionally compromised having read a post that, a) doesn't mirror your opinions, and b) is beyond your capacity to distill.
Your thin skin and weakness is what's pathetic.
-
It can be a great PR move for Kevin
They should do a Pumping Iron style documentary of his return to the stage. Could be an epic one, whether he places good or not.
-
Is Shawn Ray adopted? He craves so much attention...
Yes. I believe he was adopted by Boyer Coe.
-
Yes. I believe he was adopted by Boyer Coe.
Boyer's a nice guy ... who has/(had?) a real bad toop.
-
this is all new to me. BUT I doubt he's actually going to compete. Generate a ton of interest, be the story of the year...
but competing at pro level in 2016? It's not like guys can come back in 6 weeks like Arnold 1980 anymore.
-
No matter how you twist it, this is quite bitter from Shawn. He always seems to be a little bit bitter to me.
Just getting on stage, Kevin would get such standing ovations and cheers, that alone could be worth it for someone like Kevin who likes performing. I don't think people understand this.
His legacy is set no matter what he does. Or do you think Ronnie is less awesome at his peak, because of how he looks today? No.

If Kevin gets on stage and blown away, said competitors can say "I beat Kevin Levrone", that is something that will tarnish his legacy.
