My favourite physique ever... always wondered what "could have been" if not for the cancer scare, and if he was able to pull off his '90s comeback ala Matt Mendenhall in '91, because those later pics with the long hair he looked ludicrous!
-
Not a midget either.
-
Jason Blaha has as much muscle mass as Serge, mathematically.
-
.
-
what was the story with rory ?
could have swore people on here said he never could come in cut enough come show time.
looks awesome in those pics
-
Not a midget either.
Serge was no slouch either at 6 ft and he's making him look short
-
Tall, jacked, handsome with a full head of hair. I also heard he was strong as fuck too.
Definitely, one of those guys that look more God than human.

Would have made a great Hercules.

Rory Superfly Leidelmeyer...
-
I wonder if he's managed to keep that handsome head of hair? Because every other f*#cker I used to look up to in the 80s/90s is now BALD!!! (Or so it seems, am I wrong?)

the year was 1977. orange country classic bodybuilding contest held at Anaheim high school,in a big assembly room. i was 19, just started to lift weights, starting to really get into lifting.
went to the contest to check it out. got there kind of late, took a seat. back then, there were not that many competitors that there are now. watched for a while, trying to figure it out.
then mike glass, who was the MC, said and now for out guest poser, RORY LEIDELMEYER. he walked by me on the way to the stage, and at 300 pounds, i almost shit myself.
first of all, i didn't know that someone could get that big. he was huge. i was freaked out on how big he was. he went up on stage and did his thing. i was hooked.
a few years later, i heard he was at a gym in Whittier working out. don't know why i didn't go down there to lift with him,(and probably would have got hooked up with some good drugs) but i never went.
still remember that night in Anaheim. still lifting at a get 59

I used to train in the same gym for about 9 months or so in the early 90s, Block's Gym in Plasencia. Rory and Serge Nubret trained together. Seeing them used to be a routine/normal thing. Never spoke to either one due to being too scared to approach. I kick myself now.

Serge has stated he was 5'11". Serge was also barefoot and Rory in heeled boots under those pant legs.
I have a Muscle and Fitness magazine from the early 80's where they say Rory was 5'11". I also have read he was as tall as 6'2", so not sure.
-
235 pounds in the red trunks photo shoot (from 1983/1984)...
-
Rory is prob around the 6 ft 6'1 range possibly

.

Pic from the 80's and a recent one.

Looks the same height as 6'0" Bob Paris (Bob he was listed as 6'0" in the early 80's).

Jay Cutler is the one on the right.

Rory at 60 weighs 250lbs
-
Roy owns the pompidore hairstyle.
-
Would be interesting to see him step on stage once more and win a masters 60+ class and go pro :P
-
Rory at 60 weighs 250lbs
Where did he state his current weight? He looked bigger in the 1984 gym training pics I provided where he was 235 pounds. I'm not doubting that he's 250 pounds, but where did you read that?
-
Damnnnn
The top pic of him is from a 1984 photo shoot where he weighed 235 pounds and they stated in Muscle and Fitness that his arms were 20". He should have been pro.
-
Rory at 60 weighs 250lbs
He's 58
-
Is that arce?

-
Great physique!!
-
Yup!
-
long hair makes him look like a 10/10 pussy slayer!!
-
Better than Levrone. Because, Rory is 60.
(Getbig logic)
-
Said once said it a thousand times. Criminal that he never was given a pro card.
-
This was back in the days where a bodybuilding pro card was a feat, and not just handed out to everyone.
-

If not for bob paris hed have one. Wonder how things wouldve played out differently if he beat bob.
-
.
He's in my top 5 bodybuilders of all time (Rory, Kevin Levrone, Bertil Fox, Lou Ferrigno and Tom Platz).
-
I first met Rory while he was still a teenager ... training at a long forgotten gym on the eastern edge of the Los Angeles basin a bit SE of Bill Pearl's Pasadena Gym.
He used to cut hair in the backyard of that gym and if I recall correctly I think we talked about Holland for some reason.
Even back them everyone felt that he was going to be bodybuilding's next big name.
Then years later I was present in San Jose, California at the contest in which he placed second to Bob Paris and had the opportunity to speak with him and his wife.
If I recall that conversation correctly, they had just had their first child.
And another "if I recall correctly" .... I sort of and kind of recall that Bob's best friend at that time was a celebrated Opera singer.
Those were the good old days when bodybuilding events were much smaller (as were the contenders themselves), and we all seemed to be kinder and less 'gossipy' than the way we find ourselves today.
But eventually the internet appeared and we all changed drastically.
Almost without even realizing it.
-
Great post Stuntmovie!

One of my favourite physiques too, as mentioned in the first post.

Excellent choice of thread bump 8) Firstly, because that recent pic of Mr L. appears to answer the question I put out there last year when this thread first saw the light of day...
I wonder if he's managed to keep that handsome head of hair? Because every other f*#cker I used to look up to in the 80s/90s is now BALD!!! (Or so it seems, am I wrong?)
Secondly, because the first time I visited this thread I completely failed to notice that in one particular shot, Rory would push even Kevin 'Methusaleh' Lev-ro-nee close when it came to the sheer heft and mass of a very erm.... prominent bodypart..... (can't edit pics on this tablet or I'd post a direct comparison shot :()

I remember when he used to hang out with that loser Tony Mandarich.
I still have these two Sports Illustrated issues. There is a picture of Rory in the first one.
This was the contest. Ii's the 1983 Nationals. Rory had actually been training Bob in Anaheim. But Rory thought he was the better man that night. The judges didn't agree.
Rory was pissed. Said crowd was behind him. Told it to Muscle & Fitness.
Wrote an article years later about judging saying that judges knew nothing and most weren't really qualified to do the job.

I recall reading an article by Rory back in the day where he said the judges came up onstage at one show and were pinching the low backs of the competitors to see who was the leanest.

Nice of you to picture it like that. The truth is that the judges were feelling their glutes for striations.

Yeah, you said it before.
