Title: Golds gym rate increase letter.
Post by: HTexan on June 20, 2016, 07:00:29 PM
I just got a letter from gold's saying my rate is going to go up. Doesn't say how much. I'm on a month to month payment. Anybody else that trains at gold's get a letter? Is this legal? ???

If you're month to month, I guess it's legal. Would be illegal if you signed a long term contract.

I just left a golds that bought up a decent chain I went to for years. The chain had 20 or so more locations that all members were allowed to use. Enter golds to buy the chain and say no you have to pick one location and that's it. I lost my bank card a while back so I had to cancel and get a new card and get a threatening letter from golds and googled golds disgruntled clients. They are notorious for charging a cancelation fee. So much that the dept is one of their biggest money makers. Google it and check it out. Luckily I didn't sign a contract with golds but if I had I would have been unhappy with the outcome.

When you give access to your bank account via a bank card, it is important that you let everyone know who uses it be paid because they won't be paid. This is probably why many companies require a voided check instead. Don't take 'threatening' letters personally. They are just form letters meant to cover many different situations. Ultimately, communication is the key not having these little bloopers mess up your credit score.

I'm going in tomorrow and talking to them. If my rate goes over 40 bucks, I'm looking for a new gym. I like golds because it is close, and I can workout when I travel for work.  Anybody have a bad experience with 24 hours? I see them all over the place too.

Same situation here in Europe, but aren't they required to inform members about the actual price change?
I had this situation recently with my ISP, and they gave customers plenty of time to move to another provider if they wanted to.

The Golds where I go raised my monthly fee twice without notice. Then with notice went to bi-weekly payments. I now pay a one time yearly fee to avoid any higher fees during that year. Yearly fee has stayed steady for three years.

So you do NOT have a link to anything about his self sabotage plans being revealed by Cory L.  Typical.

IMO, 240 must be on someone's payroll to spam this board (and probably others) with posts advancing liberal propaganda.

Sadly, he isnt even getting paid.

It will drive him insane when he reads that Wayne LaPierre the head of the NRA just said you can't be a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and working against Trump.  Boom.

Tell them you're willing to stay and continue to pay the same or go elsewhere if they insist on more.  Same money or no money - their choice.  Bet they buckle.

Of course, this means risking your membership to a place that's been trading on a relevancy it had 35-40 years ago, so you'll have to decide how hard you're willing to take it up the shitter for the privilege of saying you lift at Golds.

My fee is $0 because my medical insurance offers 'Silver Sneakers' which is a program for seniors. As a result, I have several gym memberships all of which cost me nothing.

Gold's honors Silver Sneakers memberships. This does me no good because Golds has no facilities in Oregon.

Have you seen Donny? I didn't think anyone had.

All Gold's closed up here in Las Vegas and the locations were reopened by  a new company named EAS. (I think it's EAS!!)

Monthly fee is $9.95 month to month ... No long term contracts.

WIGGS might be able to bring us up to date on this.

The original one-year Gold's Gym membership was around $24 a year if I recall correctly and Joe was always in the back welding someone piece of equipment together.

How much are you GetBiggers paying each year for a Gold's membership now? And what is the intended increase?

One ultra-fine gym here in LV charges $120+ a month.
It even has its own waterpark on site.

My rates were 'grandfathered' in at the gym I've been a member of for the last 30+ years. I lost that rate when I switched my membership over to Silver Sneakers. Free is a better price.

When I moved a few years ago, I was told that the gold's I was going to before was a franchise, and my membership wasn't valid at any other gym. I had to go back, in person to cancelled the membership, then sign up for a new membership.

This is a problem with franchises. Unless their contract with the franchisor states otherwise, the franchisee can do or charge what they want.
