Why, why, why ON EARTH would these well-to-do regions of the world would seek to separate from larger conglomerates of power that NO DOUBT bring about a better life for them and their future generations?

What drives a group of people to basically ALL agree to click on a self-destruct button with teenage abandonment not seen since the Backstreet Boys were Nº 1 on the Top 40?
