Title: Death by weightlifting accident

Things are going to hell in Great Britain.

How close have you come to dying in the gym?  Ever seen anyone else get close?

A old buddy of mine got a year free from Gold's Venice when the cable on his 300 lb full stack front Lat pull downs broke and the bar cracked him in the forehead.

He foolishly accepted a free year ($275 value) and thought he was the cock of the walk.

Should be using lighter weight, feel the contraction, looks like you were leaning over doing a standing cable decline press.

It wasn't the stack that hit me

Funny how the guy dies in a freak accident after being wrapped up in a big scandal.

As far as gym accidents? Just two that I can remember that were a bit worse than minor -

1) Cracked my schnozzola when an overhead press went wrong. Not a huge amount of weight on the bar, but it still left me seeing stars.

2) Snapped cable on a old tricep press down / lat machine. I was on the finished/bottom position of a rep when it snapped, and I remember being scared that it would hit my eye, but I ducked and turned away, and just got a bloody rope burn on my chest and neck.

Other than those two, just banged shins, dropped light weight plates, etc.... type stuff otherwise, knock on wood.

And you got an attorney right?

Gyms have a duty to keep their equipment in good order.

I did but nothing has come of it yet. Machine had a warning sticker on the side. I guess it's hard to sue a gym.

Exactly what I thought......you were leaning forward putting your bodyweight into a tricep pushdown, ego lifting!!

Nah. Inadequate warning anyways. It's the gyms duty to keep their equipment in good working order and have routine inspections, etc. Those waivers don't cover a gyms negligence.

This guy died soon after, internal organ damage.

I didn't watch the video as I don't want to see it again.

I hope those "spotters" lose sleep for the next few decades.  >:(

Brutal case of retardation if you think any spotter could have caught the weight when the guy's grip slipped like that.

Yea the result would have been the same it happened so quick, would have just pulled them down with it.
