A strongman deadlift is still a strongman deadlift and 500kg is 500kg. Another view:

Eddie's static strength is just insane, easily up there with the greatest of all time.

Crazy

Not official, though.

It is official within strongman rules, just not PL rules. Besides, 'official' and 'legit' are not the same. Many PL feds that are technically official, yet are only someone's backyard justification. This was done with actual sponsors, in front of a 10,000+ crowd.

And yes, I actually attended, just back in the hotel.

Good looking lift. He should maybe do a small, but respected meet, and see if he could best Benni's record.

Really good time to be interested in the strength game.

I beg to differ, being 28st and using the strongman version of the death stack doesn't bide well for a long fruitful future

It would be interesting to see indeed. He easily beat Benni yesterday, but grip might be an issue if he couldn't use straps. Then again he's a top strongman, none of those have weak grips.

Unlikely he'll go for the PL record, according to what Hall himself said yesterday. Going to focus purely on winning WSM now.

Does this count as an official record with the use of straps?

There are so many different federations, who could keep track regarding what lifts are official and which lifts are bogus. They ALL need to compete under ONE federation, so they all follow ONE set of rules. It will make it a lot easier to determine an official lift.

Yes, there are two records. One (actually thousands ::) ) for the sport of powerlifting, one for the sport of strongman.  Yesterday's second place finisher actually held both records for a few years.

Yes, but even within powerlifting, there are many different federations with different rules.  Who has the ultimate say regarding who holds a record?

Nobody cares about powerlifting apart from powerlifters, WSM is recognised by normal people, its on mainstream tv in europe

eddie_hall_strongWell here it is.... The impossible 500kg!

Massive thanks to protein Dynamix for supplying my body with all I needed to make this happen. Protein, creatine, bcaa's.

- therein lies the truth  :D

I would say strongman is even more hazardous than BB to health. Only in the past decade, we've seen 2 top strongmen (Jesse Marunde and Mike Jenkins) pass away in their prime competing years.

Point taken. You're right.

Just know my comment wasn't meant in disrespect. Not at all. The lift is absolutely insane, straps or no straps.

I didn't comment in anger, wouldn't dare.  :D  Besides, things are already changing, with Giants Live and their new raw rules announcement a few days ago.

I believe the fella was close to death just after the lift, no joke. Sudden heart attack is a real possibility with these guys.

You'll have to scroll a bit, but in the comments for this vid -

.

Johnny's wife comments on how originally she thought WSM would be a health diversion from him going into wrestling, till she saw all the drug use. Just one of those interesting things you run across.

In general, I think the mortality rates would be something like Body Building, Strongman, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting if you ranked them most to least.

or stroke...

A British weightlifter set a new record over the weekend when he lifted 1,102 pounds, but the feat didn’t come without consequence. Eddie Hall, 28, burst several blood vessels in his head during the effort, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported. After the lift, Hall slumped to the ground and staff surrounded him. "That nearly killed me,” the champion athlete told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “The pressure on my body was surreal. I passed out after. I had nosebleeds. It's not healthy doing something like that.”

During an interview at the venue, when asked whether he was going to try to set the bar even higher in future, his response was an immediate and heartfelt "fuck no!". Records come and go, but nobody can take being the first to 500 kg away from him.
