It's related to the Bull fighting. This is a cultural tradition that westerners don't approve of, because we veiw dogs as pets. And they refuse to stop it, even when more western idealz are being accepted. Bull Fighting is Spanish cultural tradition, as well as hanging Galgos from trees after hunting season. Yet, again even with significant international outcry from animal rights agencies, they refuse to stop it.

Also, most people don't know that the Yulin Festival was going on. More awareness can help to have more pressure on the Chinese government to shut it down.

Westerners have a problem with fluffy and cute being killed. Especially, when the history of human  and dog have been intertwined for a very long time. It is not a tradition food item. So, therefore there is no real blinking when a pig gets killed (ever hear them squeal?).
Westerners also have no real problem of the millions of sharks killed for shark fin soup. This is probably because Sharks are not cute and cuddly, and are seen as cold and deadly.

Yep. The real hypocrisy is how people in the West, like XFactor will be pissed to see an article on this, but is he truly pissed enough to stop buying products from China? Or demand his government to stop importing products from China?

The same people going on about this were quieter than a church mouse pissing in a cotton ball over collateral damage in Iraq, LOL!

It's tough to do, but there are MANY things that are easy to avoid from China.  Just read the labels on everyday things you purchase from toothpaste, soaps, pet treats, seafood, garlic, rice, apple juice, mushrooms, chicken, cookware...

The problem is not the killing and eating but the sadism connected to the handling of the animals - same in western countries where unnecessary cruelty reigns.
This plays into the hands of various "animal protectors" who use this circumstance against meat consumption in general. The ulterior motive being further prohibition/control of raising live stock.

Be careful - minority breeds seem overly aggressive.  :o
