(CNN)Some Turkish military units have attempted an uprising that will be not allowed to succeed, the country's prime minister said late Friday in a phone interview with Turkish broadcaster A Haber.
The uprising is "an attempt against democracy and the will of the people," Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told state news agency Anadolu. "Those who attempted this will pay the heaviest price."
One tweet showed a military jet flying extremely low over the capital Ankara.
A report from the U.S. Embassy in Ankara said military-appearing jets had been flying low over the city and Istanbul for about an hour.
Two bridges in Istanbul are closed in one direction by the military. Cars are flowing from the European side of the city to the Asian, but soldiers and military vehicles are blocking the path to the European side.

The President himself have been taking secret lessons with Steven Seagal and is trained in UFC; TAPOUT and has a black belt in BELLATOR, so he will perform all the striking himself , whilst wearing a transitional Beanie and a skintight blue shirt.

I just spoke with my two friends in Turkey. They said it is just a small part of the military led by Fethulla Gulen. And that they are no match. They said even the people there are taking the militarys weapons !!! And that they will not succeed.

From what I read, the military is pro-secularism, and Erdogan has been pushing for a more fundamentalist regime. And yes, all those "refugees" may have been another reason as well.

Turkish Military Says It Has Taken Over Country

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey’s armed forces “fully seized control” of the country Friday, according to a statement from the military published by a Turkish news agency, as gunfire was heard outside military headquarters, fighter jets buzzed over the capital and vehicles blocked two major bridges in Istanbul. The prime minister, however, said there was an “attempt” at a coup.
Soldiers blocked entry to Ataturk Airport where four tanks were stationed, according to the private Dogan news agency. Two other tanks and a military vehicle were stationed in front of the VIP terminal. The report said the soldiers had entered the tower and stopped all flights.

News reports said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was safe and would make a televised statement soon.
The military said it seized control “to reinstall the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms, to ensure that the rule of law once again reigns in the country, for the law and order to be reinstated.”
The military statement went on to say that “all international agreements and commitments will remain. We pledge that good relations with all world countries will continue.”
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that a group within the military has engaged in what appeared to be an attempted coup.
Yildirim told private NTV television: “it is correct that there was an attempt,” when asked if there was a coup. Yildirim didn’t provide details, but said Turkey would never allow any “initiative that would interrupt democracy.”
“We are focusing on the possibility of an attempt (coup),” Yildirim said. “There was an illegal act by a group within the military that was acting out of the chain of military command. Our people should know that we will not allow any activity that would harm democracy.”
Military jets were heard flying over Ankara and Istanbul. Gunfire was heard outside Turkey’s military headquarters in Ankara, while media reports said ambulances were seen out front.
“There are certain groups who took the arms trusted to them by the state and pointed them toward state employees,” Yildirim said. “We shall determine soon who they are. Our security forces have acted against these groups.”
The Dogan news agency says one-way traffic on the Bosporus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges were blocked. Video footage showed the bridge being blocked by military vehicles.

Obama Opposes Turkey’s anti-Islamist Coup
(http://media.breitbart.com/media/2016/07/27716300004_f40f97a584_k-obama-oval-640x480.jpg)
President Barack Obama is speaking out against the military coup that is now seeking to overthrow Turkey’s elected Islamist government.
According to a 7.00 pm statement from the White House,
The President spoke tonight by phone with Secretary of State John Kerry to discuss the events in Turkey. The President and Secretary agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected Government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed. The Secretary underscored that the State Department will continue to focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens in Turkey. The President asked the entered power in 2009 hoping to use Turkey’s Islamist president to help remake politics in the Middle East — but the wished-for alliance crashed as Erdogan’s Islamist government became more radical year by year.
Obama met with Erdogan multiple times during his first four-year term.
In January, 2012, Obama said Erdogan is one of his top allies. “I think that if you ask them, [Germany’s] Angela Merkel or [Indian] Prime Minister Singh or [Korea’s] President Lee or [Turkey’s] Prime Minister Erdogan or [U.K.] David Cameron would say ‘We have a lot of trust and confidence in the President … We think he’s paying attention to our concerns and our interests,’” he told Newsweek interviewer Fareed Zakaria.
In March 2012, at a meeting in South Korea, Obama declared about Erdogan “that we find ourselves in frequent agreement upon a wide range of issues… [and] because he has two daughters that are a little older than mine — they’ve turned out very well, so I’m always interested in his perspective on raising girls.”
Erdogan has pushed step-by-step create an Islamic state. That Islamic push is being resisted by secular, educated Turks, mostly in the major cities.
Erdogan has also tried to revive the defunct Ottoman Empire by building a new presidential palace and surrounding himself with guards dressed as the soldiers of the Ottoman empire, which collapsed in 1920. That push has been strongly resisted by neighboring Arab countries, and largely ignored by European governments.

Parker: I'm just going my the info my friends in Turkey are saying. I am not there, but so far the second half of my statement where I said the arms are being taken away from the military has turned out to be correct And i said that hours before that was reported by the news. let's see what happens over there today, as it is already Saturday there. I'll call my friends again as I think they know what's going on. Our media spins things ten different ways to Sunday depending which side they like. I don't know much about their country's politics, but they do. I'll listen to them before I will listen to media from here guessing what is going on.

Yeah some broke asshole looking out from the front doorstep of his house and giving a report of what is going on with a country as big as Turkey. Definitely the information worth relying upon.

OBOMBa is a filthy Moozie, no question. His terms in office will likely go down as some of the most destructive in US history.

O and Parker: About your jet theory? Well I guess the government has them too, because a government F-16 fighter jet shot a military coup helicopter out of the sky! ::) maybe we should all wait to see what ends up happening. To soon to tell. My friends should be calling shortly from Turkey.

Latest from my friends in Turkey: They say 60 to 70 civilians are dead so far. At least 400 soldiers have been arrested. They are saying their Justice Minister says any and all ground troops will be defeated, and any airborne will be shot down! Just passing on what I heard from my friends in Turkey.

Haven't really looked into Turkish politics but if the military is more pro-secular like you stated perhaps this could be a good thing.
Yes, the Turkish president Erdogan is an Muslim fanatic who wants to turn Turkey into an Islamist republic under Sharia. A dangerous leader who has made numerous remarks supporting Islamic expansion and rule.
The Turkish military supports a secular state much like the one envisaged by Ataturk.
Turkey is in a crossroads. The uneducated rural population are supporters of Erdogan while the urban youth want a modern and progressive nation.

Genuinely interested to hear what are some things that this democratically-elected president did to bring in Sharia law?
They said something like voter turnout was 80%, so obviously a good amount of people there wanted this guy in charge.

He's a populist who has support with the uneducated masses in Turkey and the country folk.
He doesn't say outright that he wants an Islamic state and Sharia, but many feel it's creeping into Turkish society with more Islamic banking, elements of alcohol restriction and an encouragement of women to wear Islamic clothing.
When Erdogan went to Cuba, he spoke of having a mosque built there and claimed that Muslims discovered the America's before Europeons did. :D

And guess who supports Erdogan? Apparently this coup has been put down, like bailey had said.

Wow, it gives Erdogan everything he wants. International sympathy, a reason to purge the military, diversions from his fascist policies....
It couldn't have worked out better for him. What luck he has. ::)
-
Just got off the phone with my Turkish friends. They say that 1367 militia arrested! Government back in charge. I will let you no more as soon as developments occur.
Two things. First, it seems like these "update" posts come after I've already seen the same thing reported on the news. And B, less than 1400? I thought Turkey was a fairly big and somewhat strong country. Seems like a miniscule number of military involved.

"Qatar is Erdogan's closest Gulf ally, sharing his sympathies for the Muslim Brotherhood that formerly ruled Egypt and which is outlawed in other Gulf Arab states."
Kuwait's emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah congratulated Erdogan on "the success of legitimacy and the victory of democracy the will of the friendly Turkish people" who have been spared "much suffering."
Bahrain made a similar statement rejecting any attempt to undermine "constitutional legitimacy under the leadership" of Erdogan and his government and stability in Turkey.
Gaza's Hamas rulers, who have friendly ties with Qatar as well as Turkey's ruling Islamic-rooted AKP party "condemned the failed coup attempt" and "congratulated the people and the Turkish leadership for successfully protecting democracy."
Islamisation of the world. Disease.
-
Just another example of the suppressed Muslims being unfairly treated and acting out violently. Or maybe this story doesn't fit that narrative either. Hmmm....
-
the coup was Secular Turkey (what little remained of it) throwing a hail mary. Was do or die and I was hoping that the Kurds would go in and hoped Putin felt like stargazing as Erdogan took to the skies to escape!
Erdagon was flying everywhere seeking refuge, Turkey shot down a Russian jet in November. What goes around...
but nothing happened last night.
Shame.
Islamisation of the western world has just been given a massive boost. And Obama is supporting this.
I hope the secular Turkish coup gives the rest of us a push to act.
-
Sad that they couldn't pull it off. Would've added a glimmer of hope in the world.
-
reminded me of when General Francis X. Hummel tried taking over the rock and was not 100 percent committed to following through on his demands
seems a lot of the soldiers did not want to fire on civilians , so they just turned themselves in , they will all soon be lined up an executed for treason at point blank rage with AK47s
-
I know it's not my business or country, but this is/has been eating at me. I woke up in the middle of the night to piss and checked my phone and saw it had been put down. It bothered me that Erdogan will now be strengthened and will not cede power. I believe he may become more emboldened and possibly take measures to take territory outside of Turkey. This dude is a Hitler type dictator and we are just seeing the beginning. We need to move our weapons out of there and sever ties. This may be looked back on as the beginning of something much larger.
-
a reporter was saying President Erdogan is the middle man for the Oil trade and money that is used to fund the ISIS group
-
who cares. just muslim on muslim violence
-
who cares. just muslim on muslim violence
Not really. Secular Muslims against fundamentalist Muslims. Big difference.
I hope this isn't the end of it and the Turkish youth reject further Islamification of their country. The coup was always going to fail though. As much as I dislike Erdogan, he is democratically elected so a military overthrow wouldn't work.
-

As much as I dislike Erdogan, he is democratically elected so a military overthrow wouldn't work.
Stupidest thing I've heard all week.
The government in Thailand was democratically elected, until they were overthrown.
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood were democratically elected, until they were overthrown.
...And that's just the last few years.
The coup's problems were in the facts that they didn't have enough men; they didn't manage to kill Ergodan fast; they didn't gain control of the media quickly enough. That's all.
-

But the problem was since he had large amounts of support, those supporters were bound to take to the streets to fight the military. If the military started shooting their own citizens, they would quickly lose the support of all the Turkish population (including many who may have been against Erdogan).
An assassination would have been better I agree. The coup was poorly planned.
I do think that if Erdogan continues to fuck up the country, there will be a successful revolt one way or another.

Everywhere it is, chaos, violence and intolerance happens.

This is a FAKE coup. It's not that many soldiers thought they were participating in a real coup, but it's an intelligence operation.
It was tiny and manipulated.
A lot of people who pledged to join them stood down...

Oh There Will Be Another Coup, And No Soldier Will Surrender Ever Again. It May Be Civil War In Turkey, But The Cleansing Will Be Secularists, Cleaning Out The Islamists. Right Now, Secularists Are Looting Armories All Over Turkey, Of Guns And Ammo, While They Still Can. This Isn't Over Yet, Not By A Long Shot. Secularists Know That If They Don't Fight Now, They And Their Families Will Be Killed By The Islamic Lunatics.

You guys hit the spot!
There are always some anti government Generals in the army, they were given hope by the help of intelligence service and pro government generals.
They would normally start coup past midnight, but they were pushed to start operation too early, and without the promised military backup.
It was funny as hell, they didn't capture any member of the parliament, no ministers, they didn't capture any of the national televisions.
Don't forget, this is a fckin' country with so much coup know-how!
You capture the government officials, capture national televisions and with the help of couple of hundred tanks and elite commandos no citizens dare to break curfew, and its game over.
This coup was doomed in the first place, Erdogan got the intelligence beforehand, and as you guys said, he will use it to become an omnipotent president(read Hitler wannabe DICTATOR)
We'll kiss goodbye to secular Turkish Republic, reforms of Ataturk, modernity and all that.

Wonder what the chances are of Turkey going to the route of Afghanistan/Iran/Egypt...etc?

Oh There Will Be Another Coup, And No Soldier Will Surrender Ever Again. It May Be Civil War In Turkey, But The Cleansing Will Be Secularists, Cleaning Out The Islamists. Right Now, Secularists Are Looting Armories All Over Turkey, Of Guns And Ammo, While They Still Can. This Isn't Over Yet, Not By A Long Shot. Secularists Know That If They Don't Fight Now, They And Their Families Will Be Killed By The Islamic Lunatics.
Erik, ratio of secular Turks are around 30-40 percent.
They are living cities living near the sea, north west and west parts of Turkey. Most of them are muslim on paper, they adore war hero and founder of Turkish Republic Ataturk. They don't fast, pray in mosques and hate Arabic culture.
25-30 percent are in between, they are uneducated, practice Islam in moderate, they are easily manipulated with Islam but they also respect Ataturk and his reforms. They also hate Arabic culture and middle eastern chaos.
Rest are hopeless and worthless clowns, who glorify pathetic Arabic culture, dream of marrying 4 women, ready to kill jews, armenians and non praticing "heretic" muslims.
Why do people vote Clown Erdogan?
Up until Erdogan, most of the secular political parties used threat of radical islam and Iran example and get away with doing practically nothing; no public transportation investments, no serious foreign investment...
They only served the strong Turkish army and well established secular wealthy business families.
They get away with telling people they represent Ataturk's legacy and said, if those bearded islamists come they will cut you and make you cover yourself.
60 percent of the Turkish people enjoy western way of living so it was enough until Erclown came.
He was the project of United States "moderate islam" policy, he started moderate and become hardcore each passing year.
Turkish economy prosper with help of FED monetary easing, and rapidly increasing credit financed investments.
Before Erclown 10 percent of the population ever used bank loan, now everybody has serious amount of bank loan, they drive foreign cars, there are vast public investments on transportation, health and culture.
Turkey is more fragile than ever, dependent on foreign loans and hot money.
Majority of the pro Erclown people say, he is stealing but he is also serving.
Before they were just stealing and didn't do anything, no subways, no modern hospitals, no skyscrapers, shopping malls, no nothing, they only served the founding industrial families of Turkey.
Erdogan took wealth from westernized modern Turks and distribute to the "silent masses"
You know what?
Using threat of radical Islam and getting away with corruption brought us today...
Also all those years Turks oppressed Kurds, we are selfish fuckers who cares for our own well being, care about partying and material side of westernized living.
No intellectual depth regarding democracy, equality and social justice.
Now we secular Turks afraid to death against these radical islamist garbage.
We have no clue, we ask ourselves, why do these Kurds want independence, traitor fuckers.
Because we didn't give them education, opportunity and brought investment eastern part of Turkey, so we get what we deserve.

You Really Aren't Displaying A Winning Attitude There. The Answer Is Simple: Kill Off The Lunatic Muslims, And Good Riddance To Them.
