Title: Paul Dillet Mr O cramping
Post by: Dr Dutch on July 21, 2016, 12:59:50 PM
Does anyone know if there's a video of this somewhere on the net ?
I know the IFBB dudes worked like crazy to avoid this going public....it was a big before the smartphone era.

Or any pictures?

It was at the 1994 Arnold. No video has surfaced from the incident.
This thread from 2005 has some pictures:

I once got out of my car after doing leg day and both of my quads seized up on me and I just stood there holding onto the car roof for a good 10 minutes. It was awful. I couldn't bend my knees. Finally I just bent my waist and let gravity take me into the front seat . Some couple walking by just stared at me like wtf. I'm like oh jesus, but I didn't care. Finally I managed to get the old quads to quiet down. just terrible.

What seemed a little weird is that from the pictures published it didn't look like the people helping him were trying to break the cramps by opposing them or anything?  Maybe they couldn't...  Did they IV him in the end?  I can't remember.  I do remember almost every show that I went to during that period seemed to have at least one competitor hitting the deck and needing to be brought round one way or another

Re: those pics though - I did chuckle at the one asian looking official taking a once in a lifetime opportunity to apply pressure tenderly to Paul's 'high-medial-groinal' zone while trying to establish eye-contact.  ;D

Here's Peter McGough's recollection of the incident:

Very similar to my story. One time after leg day I was sitting in the car and both of my hamstrings cramped up. It's not like I could of pulled over or stop there and stand up. I literally felt like my legs were about to tear apart. Most painful cramp I ever had.

Hamstring cramps are the worst.

Quad cramps are bad too. As are pec cramps.

Cramps in the feet are bad, but you can easily grab the toes and pull them back... Thus ending the cramp.

Genetic condition. No need to make a big deal out of God's work.

John Romano adviced him on the diuretic protocol that year.

Paul also missed one Mr O due to insulin induced hypoglycemia. Chad blamed himself because he wasn't there "to watch him eat".

He looked like he was pop-locking, while throwing the arm up to rouse the crowd into applause.

And Paul was in awesome shape that day too. In my opinion, he was going to win the show.
