These became popular after my time but I've found a lot of beginners swearing by these "Rippetoe" "Starting Strength" "Stronglift" routines. Some people who were just getting into the gym asked me for my help but kept citing these as reasons why my personal routine is wrong when I tried to give advice. So I looked up some of the before/after results and look at what this gets people:

Seems like a lot of these routines are based around functional strength, and encourages overeating to force mass gain. I dunno, but I never approached it this way and these guys look like shit IMO...

Overeating to force mass gains are you retarded LOL, if you overeat the only thing you will do is get fat.

this is excusable for teenage boys
teenage boys who get into this "game" should go through the "eat everything and ego lift phase, brother"
then as you get older, you learn from that mistake
rather than chastise these young men, just let it go and know that most of us went through it at a young age
it's just a stage
now, if you continue to do this into your 30's then you're the legit retard
