Dude seems like a nice guy, hot wife but his physique is tired looking.
Tried a stint in Kuwait and despite intense training boatloads of gear, he will likely finish out of top 5 at third tier show.
Time to hang up the thong Jon, you had a good gig going with the elevator repair work....go back to that.
-
Probably working at a Car wash
-
Let's look at this objectively .. Like you said extremely hot ( Swan Delarosa) wife, supplement store that they make a good living at/looked incredible in his pics/posts leading up to the show from Kuwait ... Both doing what they love ... What's he going to " hang it up" to???... To crawl back around greasy old elevators ?!?!... I say keep doing what your doing! ...his life seems pretty good " as is!"
-
Your schmoe level is light years beyond mine. I have no clue who you're talking about.
-
If the camel crew cant grow you then there is pretty much no hope, Jon has to come off and give his receptors a break or just hang them up.

It's a matter of condition with him.

I think I posted the interview where he said they sold the sup store.
That union job he had/has pays six figures with good retirement. Guy is massive but short and has trouble bringing detail out. Not sure what the answer is because he has done better in the past. Conditioning/separation def needs to improve.

Maybe, just maybe he needs to stop concentrating on size. Melvin Anthony had s problem with condtioning, and Dex went on record and said that Melvin needs to come in lighter due to his structure. Melvin's highest placing at the O was 5th, and he had a slight gut.

They "sold" the shop, likely was taken off their hands because losing money.
His wife is a smoke show, he should take his union job and support her.
He's done IMO. Maybe go for 212?
Could easily do 212 and keep his elevator repair job.
Do the right thing!!!

Second point, you are not suggesting that he should have stuck with the woman who was by his side when he first started out, Huh?
Jon lacks back detail from what I remember, or the ability to get into condition, so maybe the first thing cannot be helped, but the second can. And maybe the 212s or Classic is the way to go. Even Caprise Murray went to Men's Physique.

I hear what your saying ( Jon seems like a nice guy and def has a " pro-level" physique)just can't get past this lol. ...

I heard that she cheated on him with Grant Michaels.

I could have sworn it was branch Warren

He would be too tall for 212, (5'7)
Stan mcquay tried it and didn't work out and moved to classic physique
Most of those guys are stacked at a max height of 5'4/5'5

He should just hang up the thong.
Now doing contest diets???
Elevator repair is a good job, go for it and put bread on the table
-
His wife posted this. I noticed he doesn't work the social media game very well either. He disappears and at one point I thought he hung up the thong.
The 0'2 gym people even traveled with him to the show so maybe they will continue to help him. He has a house, wife etc so he has some decisions to make.
He was 5th place.
-
^^" tired looking physique?"^^^wish my physique would look this " tired!"

I think Al Aguste tried the 212s as well, and didn't do so well. Personally think Mr. Second Coming of Lee Priest should try his hand at the open contests. He is the same height as Branch, and better.
-
He will be Swann diving tonight. :D
-

Legs came down, no separation, back smaller
You were not winning shows and now fifth in a third tier contest
So you wishing you looked like him is irrelevant
Fact is he has a good paying job repairing elevators and should stick to that

He was 5th place.
5th place at the Tampa Pro means battling it out for 15th place at the Olympia.
-
He's not even qualified for O and won't this year (no easier shows left).
Should go for classic or 212, lose weight, get healthier and take his union job.
Has a smoking hot wife and a good family.
Should quit the "dream" and face reality.
-
Go home and be a family man...
-
Go home and be a family man...
that's easy for someone with zero ambition to say

The Mirage Hotel.

Why can't he do both lol. You can still prep for shows while working full time just consider it a hobby.

The guy just spent two months away from his wife living in Kuwait trying to chase his
Dream of winning a plastic trophy at a third tier show and ended up being gifted a top 5.
He should go back to a real job and provide for his family.
How much did he earn in Kuwait??

I am sure he enjoyed his stay in the Middle East. It brought back his childhood love of playing hide and Shiekh.
-
He did better here at the Tampa contest than he did at the New York Pro contest last May. Here he placed 5th out of 24 contestants, there he placed 8th out of 18 contestants. He was in the Mr. Olympia last year but he came in last along with Steve Kucklo, Brandon Curry, etc.
I do not know Mr. De la Rosa, nor what his goals are. But, I absolutely and vehemently disagree with all the comments here suggesting he quit bodybuilding and go back to his elevator job.
Maybe he's never going to be Mr. Olympia, but, who knows. Maybe he just loves to train and compete. I know I sure as fuck would be ecstatic (as would every other person reading this) to place 5th at a pro show.
I also know that when I worked in offices in skyscraper buildings it was understood that the elevator repairmen made good money. It's a skilled trade, and since he has it, he can always go back to it in the future. There aren't many people walking around on the streets that know how to fix elevators. So for now, he should do what he wants to do.
Whenever I read comments on this board about quitting bodybuilding to pursue a career I have to write that I am someone who did that. I put bodybuilding aside because of my career work. I ended up making a good living and now have a decent retirement with good health insurance. But, what I also have is a lifetime of regret. And not a single plastic trophy.
-
Keep your eye on the prize, boys.
The prize ain't his dream of being a pro.
It is his wife, Swann.
She could have ANY man in NYC--even now. But, who'd she choose?
An elevator repairman who moonlights as a 3rd tier, washed up pro bodybuilder.
Jon, you are a nice guy I'm sure, so from one guy to another, TRUST ME, consider yourself very blessed, my man. Very.
Dude won the Mr Olympia of life with a living breathing trophy wife. Phil can keep the 5 Sandows.
Cater to what makes her happy. Typically, the whole "Happy wife, happy life" thing is BS in my opinion, but in Jon's case, it should be tattooed on his forearm.

100%
She supported his dream by letting live in Kuwait for past two months and he could do anything
He's basically the only one from there who didn't do well.
Time to bury the syringes, hang up the thong and get back to his real job.

It's an embarrassing topic to be discussing. Nobody here knows the guy who what his ambitions or even how he primarily spends his time.
-
Schmoe squatting to failure using HIT principles of forced reps and slow negatives.
Dude should try isotension!

I disagree. It is relevant to many pros or npc competitors who have better careers outside of BB

I just don't get it, the guy had a secure 6 figure job and he chose posing almost naked for schmoes................. .....I mean going to the gym and train is great and fun but let's be honest today's bodybuilding as a sport is a joke.......taking years out of your life for what? To look like the michelin man..........

People should do what they like to do and be what they want to be. Again as I wrote above, he can always go back to the elevator job in the future. A recent photo (but don't know if before or after the Tampa contest):

He was doing the elevator repair thing when he won his Pro card, and had a very supportive non-"trophy" (non-high maintenance) woman. He actually looked better and healthier. And he was making some good money in his profession. More than some of these guys who think that "living the dream" is the only thing.
-
LOL at all the comments about his wife.
She is a catch because she's so good looking ::)
Some of you guys are a riot. Worried about how another man lives his life, lol.
He's living his dream all around, so what if he never wins the Mr. O, at least he's giving it his best effort, it's a short life to spend in an elevator shaft being miserable boys.

Many elevator repair people make 100-150k, how many bodybuilders with or without sponsorship make that much? Especially when not having to resort to selling themselves or drugs. Nothing wrong with holding down a job, or doing manual labor.
-
He tweeted that he's going to change his name because he's tired of sounding like a female porn star.

If you're only goal is how much you can earn..... I didn't say it was a bad job, but that he prefer not to do it.

Looked pretty Damm good to me!

This is the YT video showing him working in an elevator before the USA's. His gf worked her ass off as a nurse and cooked all his meals.
He finally achieves his dream of becoming a pro and dumps the woman for a fitness chick pro.
He must be a getbigger. :D

I remember this vid. He apparently decided to do what Corey Holcum says a man does when he starts making more money or gets a promotion. If you're only goal is how much you can earn..... I didn't say it was a bad job, but that he prefer not to do it.
It's not so much about how much one can earn. Health benefits, possibly a Union job---there isn't an IFBB Competitor's Union. Just like Ronnie was a full time police officer. He didn't have to do unsavory things just for a buck.
And as far as Jon is concerned, it's always been his conditioning and back detail that he needs to focus on. He has the size to compete.

come on man! Looks good pretty much compared to anyone ....^^ that was a great video!/ thx 4 posting it^^^my 2 cents .... I'm at work right now ("Security Officer/ Bike Patrol" at a south Florida mall) I ride a bike ( in 90 Degree heat and humidity for 8 hours a day/I'm going to be " 53" this month) If Jon has found a " better or easier" way to make a living ... Then God bless him! ( I'm struggling to get my meals in/ get to the gym and train 5-6 days per week and not melt away into nothing lol, nowhere near his level and struggling to compete and balance job/" life" relationship.. Bills etc ..life is short/ be happy find the best ( easiest) way to make a living .. And follow your passion/ desire ... That's it! Period ....

He hasn't found a better way, he is barely getting by on leases and loans probably.
He could have a 6 figure job with pension and health benefits, instead is fighting for 0 qualification.
Time to hang it up Jon. Face facts.

I find it, at the very least curious if not quite odd, ether, why you seem so obsessed with Mr. De la Rosa's career options. He beat 19 other pro bodybuilders in that Tampa contest and you don't seem the least bit concerned about their occupational futures. Or how about some other pro bodybuilders? Say like Evan Centopani, or Johnnie Jackson, or Juan Morel? I find your obsession with Mr. De la Rosa certainly something to wonder about.

Damn you, Mike! Learn how to take a joke. You are an OG Getbigger. I love you, and wish you well.

Looks flat in that pic. No pop to his muscles. That is why he got fifth. Definitely has the potential to win smaller shows.
-
if he wants to be a bodybuilder let him be one. Its his life, he choses what and whatnot.

He seems like a good guy and has a good job.
Others have nothing, no training at all. Could only work as labourers if lucky.
Centopani got out, now doing "diets" and stay at home dad
Johnny Jackson a stay at home dad
Morel does diets too
Why waste his life chasing 4th place in third tier pros? Abandon everything to move to Kuwait to train?
Others you mentioned have families and would not just ditch them to "chase the dream"
No obsession just curious
