I've received notices over the past several years but never bothered collecting.
Just received one about a meager settlement I'm entitled to as a result of paypal fraudulently delaying payments so they could generate interest on the withheld money. This goes back about 6 years in my case and I remember being so angry about it at the time, mainly because it was such an obvious scam. At the time, I actually wanted to initiate a class action lawsuit, but I'm not even inclined to jump through the hoops to collect what would probably be a less than $50 payout.

I get the notices all the time but never go for the money. It's always a small amount. Goodrum gets them but he is a more shrewd businessman than I.

Those notices in the mail are to opt out of the class action suit, that is if you want to pursue your own legal action. I've received payout from various suits, including a six week membership to a big chain gym, a credit on my phone bill, and a check for $2.38

My wife's mother got 270k in one years ago for vioxx that caused her heart attack. She got 90k for 3 years.she was sent something a couple years prior and filled it out and forgot about it.Then she got a 90k check in mail,it was crazy.

That is always given as an option, but most of the notices I've received are from law firms detailing how to collect money. I've yet to be lucky enough to be a part of a suit that just paid automatically. All of them had filing processes that were expected to last up to six months.

This would be worth it for me... as long as it didn't take up more than 2-3 hours of my time.

I've gotten a ~$60 check in the mail from the company that owns muscle milk. Forget exactly what the details were behind the suit though. Just as long as you bought some between X and y time period you were entitled to a payout. Filled it out for laughs and was a nice little surprise a couple months later in the mail (being broke af and in school at the time).
That's about all I have to offer.

I was in a lawsuit with about 10 neighbors against some sub contractor of our development. Dragged on for 4 years and I got about 5k. But I did nothing so I can't complain

I was in a class action lawsuit from a group of women complaining about pain from my penis but the judge threw out the case and nothing came of it .

Always send them in! Gotten free products and a few hundred bucks! I missed out on a big one yrs ago because I didn't know any better and took wrong advice. An old employer got sued and I missed out on few thousand.....ouch....

I was part of one when a company we did work for went tits up. I think I got $68 which wasn't even 1% but when I saw the bankruptcy paperwork and all the people they were in debt to and the amounts, I figured I was lucky that's all the bad debt I had to write off. The only people getting paid are the law firms.

Yeah, really. This is what inspired me to start this thread. I get at least two or three of these notices a year and never file them because the paperwork is intentionally prohibitively time consuming. This particular class action suit is one I actually thought about initiating, but in the end I'm not even bothering to file a claim because it's such a hassle. Paypal's bottom line isn't going to be affected in the slightest and the fact that I don't file is just going to make the lawyers even richer. :-\

That was a mass tort, different but similiar. Class actions are welcomed by companies since they don't pay out as much compared to individualized suits or mass torts. Companies screw people over all the time and class actions are good for the consumers.

Never. Lawyers are the only ones that make money in those things and I don't want to help them enrich themselves.

Yes. The latest one was a DRAM price fixing settlement and the check was $180.00. Not too bad.
I think I have been part of maybe 3 of them total. Most were like $10 settlements and a coupon to spend with the manufacturer who was being sued. :P

I had a recall on the mesh they used to repair my hernia and shortly after they said there was a class action suit but I never really looked into it.

Yea, $1.17 from an At&t shit a few years back

There are many going on with Volkswagen right now, but I have not joined in.

Been part of numerous class action suits. Just got three years of term life insurance as a settlement against Fidelity Union Life. It was for over charging on premiums.
