Excellent documentary on the history of Sillicon Valley.

William Shockley (at head of table) celebrates winning the 1956 Nobel Prize. Gordon Moore (seated far left) and Robert Noyce (middle standing) are the founders of Intel.  Noyce is the inventor of the integrated Circuit and encouraged his engineers to develop the first microprocessor, the Intel 4004.

Shockley and Noyce took the world from vacuum tubes to the modern computer chip.

The first transistor invented in 1947.  Not much to look at, but it changed the whole world.

There is a really good book called ""crystal fire" (I think), detailing the design process.Give it a read (order from library if not able to buy), it's inspiring
