Let's face it, currently pro bodybuilding is pretty fucked!
Levrone's job is to create some drama and excitement back into a dying sport. The IFBB will closely watch and see how he's received.
There's no way he'll be allowed to win no matter what he looks like as that would make the IFBB look ridiculous. He's 52! He'll show up at 90% of his historical best, inject some excitement and personality into the show, come in near the top and then retire again.
Off the back of this show, the IFBB and Arnold will decide whether to start about bringing back real old school bodybuilding ..... Size, symmetry and proportion all wrapped up with fantastic conditioning.
I saw Kev compete a few times back in the '90's and he'll be the star of the show. I like so many haven't followed pro bodybuilding for several years now as its so dull and lost its way, BUT for this Olympia, I'm hooked again.
Bring it on Baby ....

First of all, people like the freaks in BB. May be a small percentage. But it's there. I'm one of them. No Classic BB for me. Your post is pretty accurate. But for the life of me, I don't understand why Kevin would not do a separate kind of guest posing. He would be in shape. And you bet your ass the IFBB, and the Olympia would let him due it for the hype and the interest, sales, attendance, etc,.... On top of that, Kev would not have to stand up there with the younger current crop. That includes Heath... It just won't bode well for him. But, he could bring the house down doing a special posing routine to his music, all alone. He will look great this way. Crowd will be on its feat, and Kev will have accomplished more than his goal. Supplement sales increase, he looks insane because he is out there on his own with no comparisons. He does have charisma, and great posing. It's a win, win, for both Levrone and the Olympia. It would be as if he won the O! People would only remember Kev.... Think about it ?

haha dude! that almost sounds like what they used to call "dignity"! Don't embarrass yourself

Will Kevin be posing to his own music from Full Blown. Is he totally going to bring back the 90's?
-
Dokey111: let's see if you are Kevin Levrone? Go back to sleep in moms basement noob. Zit faced 19 year old kids should not post! ::)

If he guest posed and was nearly at his best the credibility of the competition would be compromised. The IFBB need him IN the show for the whole build up and spectacle. Just look at how they have promoted it.

They absolutely NEED Levrone , Heath is about as exciting as two sloths mating.
Kevin already looks better than Heath in many ways- Heath will of course win as the judges are completely out of touch with the publics complete lack of interest in the diabetic wars, but 99.9% of the laypersons watching will think of Levrone's as "Better" than the physique that Phil "presents". Yes, Levrone will save the IFBB IMHO.

Kev is the only old school pro capable of coming back after 20 years like this. I just hope he can bring his legs back enough. Then he really might give the IFBB a problem re the result!
-
The ifbb needs Kev desperately, I bet the show will be more attended than ever
At the same time Lee Thompson will be uncomfortable if the public see how bad the Mr O looks next to an old schooler, as he will decide on phil winning no matter what
-
A come-back is always interesting for the crowd. So was Oliva's come-back in the mid-80s.
-
Kevin will be the star of the night. Others will be landscape.
-
Bodybuilding needs more than a 50 odd year old man appearing as a shadow of his former self (still look massively impressive but will be well off his best) to save it from the pile of uninteresting shit it has become

I hope your not as miserable in real life as you are here. You're one angry sum bitch basstard.
-
Kevins 'come-back' will be nice for the (Weider) mags, on their dying day....
Always interesting with lots of articles about back when.
That's it. Nothing more.

Haha not at all I'm probably one of the most laid back people you could meet, most of what you read on here is not serious despite how it reads, it's just the way we talk to each other here I don't think it translates well to Americans and what not.

You are 100% correct. I was there last year and there was really no excitement during the Men's Open. The most interesting thing Friday Night was that Phil looked bad and people thought Rhoden had him but come to find out he still got a perfect score. I told my friends that they would have to do something this year so this doesn't go the way of Women's Bodybuilding and here we go with the Kevin Story.
If anything then I think it's sad that the most exciting thing is a 50 year old man who hasn't competed in over 10 years.
Nobody thought Phil was in first on Friday Night...so if he can come looking like that and win, then I'm not sure anybody will have a chance. Although if Rhoden wakes up during the judging something may happen.
I am curious to see what will happen this year though.

Just punched that up on youtube to see what would come up.
you were right

It's like everything. It's all commercial now so hence Heath as the pretty boy Mr Olympia who'll do anything for the IFBB cash. Kev is very marketable and actually has charisma and personality to boot. A great chance to get some interest back in the sport!

Just like you, i used to think that the best man wins the Olympia. How wrong i was...

5'2"????

It's all about being marketable. Kev is still probably the most marketable guy in the line up, But if he is going to retire after the Olympia, the IFBB won't be interested in seeing him near the top.
He is an extraordinary guy, he won't look older than most in the lineup so if he brings it all together and plans to compete in 2017 the powers that be might decide it's time bodybuilding went back a stage and give him the nod!

Yes kevin will save the IFBB. Think of all the schmoes who had left the sport during the early 2000's. They will come back popping viagra like pez filling the arena with fists full of dollars and throbbing wieners. Younger schmoes will appear too, the ones who grew up as teen fans of 90's bodybuilding and left as they advanced financially spending money on ladyboys and whatnot.
This will be a monetary windfall for the sport!!! ::)
Guys I'm glad Kevin is competing, it's interesting to me as a fan of bodybuilding, but he isn't Arnold returning to reclaim his throne. Dudes who are 30+ are excited because it's a hero from their youth returning. Anyone under 30 doesn't care. Those guys are into physique or Piana not the Olympia. Look around your gym. Listen and watch the young guys, bb is not what it was....
And if Kevin places well after 3 months of training and a decade layoff it's an EMBARRASSMENT to everyone who spent the year training for the show.
Sorry to burst the bubble, let's just enjoy this for what it is and leave the hyberbole to the marketing geniuses at the IFBB.

Great post mate. As you say let's enjoy the show and hope he brings a version of himself that is top 6 competitive

Albert Beckles came 2!d in the Olympia at 55 years old. I'd love to see Kev become the new Beckles
