They seem to think it makes them look tough and dangerous! Especially tribal tattoos! I look at someone with tribal tattoos and flaming skulls and shit and think you re an insecure bastard. Yet so many think hey I'm a badass, I have tattoos! I don't see the point of tattoos, I suppose I can half understand people have the names of children who have died and stuff as a emotional attachment but TATTOOS DO NOT MAKE YOU TOUGH!!
-
Because it's trendy, they're young/stupid, they want to fit in, and/or mentally ill.
-
I think tattoos are ugly, some days ago I saw some 60-something woman with a wrinkled tanned skin and a bunch of fading tatts on it. Made my stomach turn.
Old sailors with a meremaid or anchor on their arm are cool, rest is disgusting for people over 50...
-
Saw a guy with Chinese symbols on his arm and a Asian man walk by laughing hysterically. Still wonder what it said.
-
Tattoos are cool and get you pussy. It's the only reason to get them. Ever since a young lad I always liked tattoos. It has nothing to do with being tough, but let's just say...the guy with a few tattoos is much more likely to kick your ass than the banker wearing suspenders. And probably more likely to get more pussy.
A similar conversation occurs on fitness guys vs. a non lifter. A non lifter wants to believe it's a waste to spend time in a gym and that a ripped juicer is retarded....maybe so, but that ripped lifter probably gets more ass at the end of the day.
You can't pigeon hole every guy with a tattoo as an unintelligent prison inmate. Today, they are even more popular. Face it, it's as cool as you can possible get in life. Facial tattoos are also the number one coolest thing you can do....I'm debating on one tomorrow.

Well done, had me falling for it until the last few sentences.

I have a tattoo and I made it in order to remind me of something, it has a meaning and it's wort it (for me). I don't want to look tough, I just want a part of my life to be on my body to remind me of the hard times I've been through and to see the good time that I am in today. It's a mark for life, not something that will make me look dangerous.

Croatch was a jacked dude back in the day, probably still is. He was covered in ink back then. badass look, probably pulls more ass than most.

Unless your memory is fading, is this really a good reason?
A close friend of mine died 2 years ago. I don't need a tattoo to remind me of his friendship or the fact that he passed. I just remember. The day I can't remember will be a whole lot easier.
Finally, I go back to the analogy of "if you drive a Ferrari, would you put a bumper sticker on it?" Unless you view your body as a 1990 Honda Civic, its hard to mark it with something permanent you may regret in 10 years.

The funny thing is someone considering their body to be a Ferrari. Reality is, most bodies are a Corolla. Mike O'Hearn...Ferrari, rest of world...not.

Haha very true! I guess we just see things a bit differently. Of course I don't look like O'Hearn, but I work hard for my physique and would like to not stamp it with permanent ink.
I have an ex who I ran into by chance last year. She gained quite a bit of weight and got tatts on her arms, calf, and back. She was a pretty slim girl when we dated, but as soon as she started putting on weight, instead of hitting the gym or changing her diet she decided to "distract" people from her weight with her tatts. At least that's the way I see her decision to get tatted up. I could be completely wrong, of course, but I can't help but think she wouldn't have gotten those tattoos if she stayed relatively slim.

it's so weird seeing ex's get heavy, and we (as getbiggers) just keep getting leaner and richer each year.
ya know they be hating our asses for it.

"Hey, Look at Me"
-
The same reason why people ask about it on bodybuilding forums, mental illness and insecurity... ::)

Probably "egg fu yong with fried rice and noodles"..

No, that's the day you stop being human.

Haha that sounds like a joke, but I'd bet that's the reality. People who lift weights, at least in my experience, want to be better at everything, including their career. I'm not talking about delusional "bodybuilders" who think they're gonna go pro and live off a MuscleTech contract. I'm talking about people who stay in shape and work office jobs or own businesses. I work as a software dev, each year I've steadily been getting raises in salary, and each year I've steadily been improving my body. Whereas my ex, the one I'm talking about, got fat, got tatted up, works a minimum wage job, and lives with a complete loser who I bet you will end up in jail soon.
-
Boys have tattoos. Men have scars.
-
No, that's the day you stop being human.
Dimentia, sclerosis, and other causes of long term memory loss are part of the human experience. Sorry to break that to you, but its true. Nothing you or I can do about it. So the day you lose your memory is not the day you stop being human. Its the day you become a different kind of human. A sick human.

I never understood why black people get tattoos.
You can't see the tatts clearly, and they never use lighter colours....why don't they got white coloured tatts ?
Can someone explain this ?
-
Some of us are into art in different ways.
I love Japanese themed folklore and have a chest plate going into a full left arm sleeve of a Koi and waterfall.
I do admit most ppl get anything just to have some ink, random pics of nothing. Mine have personal meanings to them.
Do i regret some of my earlier pieces...sure I do. Like a few on my legs but with a great artist they can all be covered up with something I like, something that pertains to my life story.
It's not for everyone.

That's very reasonable. In reality I don't care if people have or don't have tattoos. I'm a libertarian in a lot of cases. If it doesn't harm me then I don't care lol. Do what you want, its your body, its your life. I'm just speaking out of experience and what I think would cause someone to get a tattoo. I may be completely off base with my thinking, though.

Your statement implied that it would just be easier to forget. You never implied it would be due to some disease. That, just forgetting painful things will be easier if not remembered, hence my metaphorical statement (that once you forget painful memories and lessons, you stop being human, barring certain human diseases).
No shit that Alzheimers will make you forget all sorts of things.
My point was lost.

If tattoos were not permanent, I'd probably get a few. However, the fact that they are is what puts me off.

When I see moms with tats I have to think they're stupid whores.

Tattos are consider a skin defect for serious bodybuilders.

I've never seen a good looking tat in my life, and the sag with age doesn't make them look any better. I remember a girl in high school got a winged fairy tattoo on her stomach. A few years later she got pregnant, and the winged fairy morphed in to a pterodactyl!
-
I can understand a few tattoos:
You are Samoan or some such culture where tattoos are a long held tradition
You are a service member and tattoo either your service symbol or a memorial for friends you have lost
You are in a gang or a biker group (a real one, like the kind that will skin off your tattoo if you are not really a member and have their symbol on you)
-
Insecurity, fear, sheep mentality, stupidity ... take your pick.

Why do people get tattoos?
BECAUSE THEY ARE RETARDED SHEEPS !!! ;)
-
I have no idea but it looks stupid.
-
Insecurity, fear, sheep mentality, stupidity ... take your pick.
But people have been tattooing themselves for thousands of years.
Are you referring to tribes that tattoo themselves, which has been a custom for thousands of years?
Or instragram fitness "gurus?"
There is a demonstrable difference between the two groups. I am sure you will see both groups as stupid, insecure, etc (you will not be able to see how a tattoo differs between fitness gurus and century old tribes--fitness gurus show off to the world. Tribes are not showing off to anyone besides their own limited culture). However, as stated, big difference between tattooing these days and tattooing way back when.
-

As opposed to the people who don't get tattoos and call everyone else a sheep.
We are all sheep. It just depends on what side of the fence you fall on.
The side who gets tattoos.
Or the side who says they're sheep.
Either way, both involve group thinking.
You are not a special, unique snowflake, no matter how much you try to think you're not a sheep.

People who get tats today are still only showing off for their limited culture! Same as the stupid savages that have been doing it for thousands of years. And, it's not group thinking, to notice that those who get tats are assholes.
-

Of course its group thinking. Your thoughts didn't just magically appear in your head, dingus. Your thoughts are informed in a variety of ways, and group thinking is often the most prevalent. "The self embodies what the culture believes is humankind's place in the cosmos-its limits, talents, expectations, and prohibitions. In this hermeneutic sense the self is an integral aspect of the horizon of shared understandings. There is no universal, transhistorical self, only local selves; there is no universal theory about the self, only local theories" (Cushman, 1995).
And, in my opinion, there is a demonstrable difference between tattooing thousands of years ago and tattooing today. The generation of today has a different mindset and reason for tattooing. Both are culturally based, but the motivations for tattooing are different.
-
Developing one's intellect, removes you from the cultural group think, and puts you above cultural influences, after becoming a careful observer of your , so called, fellow men. You would know that if you ever applied your Mensa IQ, to better your mind, as I have.

That's what I like to know. They look ridiculous. Especially, on real dark blacks. And, none of them look good. They either have some gang sign. Or, with the women, they have some writing(a friend's lifeline) or some other markings that don't make sense. Plus, what's with deal of tatting the chest, ladies??
If tattoos were not permanent, I'd probably get a few. However, the fact that they are is what puts me off.
Agree.

For anyone having a tattoo they want removed, here is a wonderful service that will be a blessing to you.

Same reason people wear hats in the gym. Raging insecurities.
I swear every c'unt looks the same. Everyone is a fucking midget, balding, rock some facial hair, walk around the gym with a Beatz headset, beanie and dumb tats. Like a wee little group of stupid gnomes that try and outdo each other on the dumbassery.
Not even the girls in my gym try and attention whore as much as the guys. And again, most are hilariously short anyway so might as well kill yourself before even trying :D

tattoos are about the coolest things you can have(barring big muscles). have to be good quality though not the low rent faggety type.

I had a job servicing communications systems and I was at a Hospital doing fault finding.
I walked down a hallway that was also a photo display gallery...
There was a photo from the early 1930's taken of a surgical team in the operating room just after they closed up the patient and wheeled him out, but before they cleaned up...
The Surgeon had a Heidelberg dueling scar.

Why not just hang a picture on your wall and enjoy that instead, why use the human body as a flawed canvas? Nothing says low intelligence quite like a tattoo. It's for people with no imagination and no concept of foresight.

a) So complex one has to be close and gawk to discover what they are
b) In less than 10, these "great art" tats will be as shitty as any others. Will look like giant bruises. Skin cannot remain as a constant quality for tattoos. Fact.

why is it a flawed canvas? ink will fade on just about any surface over time. a well done tattoo should stay in good condition for 10-15 years, then when it does fade you can have it touched up/refurbished.
i guess you are also one of those pussies that says "just think what it's gonna look like when you're old and your skin is all wrinkled"....well you're gonna like sht then anyway without tattoos.
if you think you can get a read on someone's intelligence because they have tattoos, then you've obviously led a very sheltered life and are probably a bit of a fag by all accounts.
i'm not talking about shty generic tribal bands or clowns with tats all over their face but good quality artwork.

It's flawed because it almost always looks disappointing.
Fags normally have better taste than heterosexual folks so I will take that as a compliment.

No, even though I met him twice I would never get someone's likeness or name tattooed on my skin.
-
Problem is today people don't ask real people for advice. They go to facebook and ask if they should get a tattoo and get 10 likes and do it but Facebook doesn't have a thumbdown feature so in reality they'd probably have 20 thumbs down and 10 likes.
