August 31, 1986 - Cerritos plane crash and HB riot, twenty miles apart. Wild day in the Southland.

Wow. Crazy.

What kind of riot is that? Hundreds of peoples watching on stands like in sports stadium while few cars are set ablaze ?

OP Pro surf tournament. A few unsolicited gropes, an arrest or two ...

^ Impressive pics, esp. the one with black smoke ascending in the background and bunch of people in front.
Love the colors of 80s too ;D
-
Just down the road, this guy clipped a DC-9 over Cerritos. Jet's stabilizer decapitated all three (pilot, wife, daughter) before both planes came down.
Repainted the wing on impact.
-
DC-9 took out a few homes, killing 15 on the ground. 82 lives altogether.

It's just the lifeguard station and a few vehicles, they're not necessarily in any peril. Not from fire, anyway.
More at risk from the rocks and bottles gettin' launched at the riot cops.

Crazy, I imagine that shit when I fly. I absolutely hate the thought of if something hit the plane youd be SOL. Their last few moments must been horrible. RIP
-
Not coincidental.
That episode references much of the Cerritos crash. In fact, Walter White was the real-life air traffic controller held partially accountable.

Oke, were you there? You the guys with the sunglasses gazing in the camera? ;D

Wait a minute, hold it right there,....is this braking bad series somewhat based upon a true story?

I was there the day before and the day after, but we usually hung out by the cliffs further north. Don't remember seeing debris or anything, but not sure.
You couldn't get anywhere near the crash site, though. We could see all the roads blocked from freeway.

No, they just borrowed that one storyline for an episode called "No Mas." Moved the crash to Albuquerque, where Walt (the character) later meets the troubled air traffic controller (based on a guy actually named Walter White) who caused it.
Creative fuckery is all.
