Jay and Ronnie were huge in 2006
Jay was like 275 and Ronnie was 298

2009 was slightly overrated. Jay's lower back started to cannibalize for whatever reason, maybe nerve damage from training too hard trying to keep up with Ronnie?

Ronnie claimed to be over 300 lbs at some mr O, can't remember which one.
He was huge of course, but over 300 lbs ripped ?
Not in his wildest dreams. 275 maybe, that's still breath-taking...

Not bad.
At first I couldn't understand how someone so blocky could be the best built man on the planet .....then I got used to it
WoooSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BE YE KEEEEEEE
-
Shit MrO just like his girlfriend, Heath.

True Confessions: When Jay starting winning Mr. O is when I quit caring about pro BB'ing. I was never a fan of his physique--he was big, blocky, and relatively featureless compared to the sick detail and "pop" of Coleman. When Heath started winning, my interest was somewhat rekindled--say what you want about his personality (it's not just him, it's his whole social media-centric generation), his physique is sick and gnarly and interesting to look at. Heath is a freak, like Roelly and Ramy.
Sorry for derailing this thread which was supposed to be about Jay.

Though I agree with you about Heath. When he won in 2011 I actually thought to myself "Wow! Show's over, there's your winner."
But I liked Jay more. He was a fighter (I know I know, this is a battle of the thong, not an actual "battle"). The competition was just more interesting with Jay, because he wasn't an automatic winner. There were guys on that stage with him that had MUCH better shape, structure, genetics, etc... but he beat them by outclassing them and outworking them. I started lifting around the time Jay just won his first Mr. O, and that's how I got introduced to the IFBB and the bodybuilding world. When I saw Jay on the cover of MD, I thought to myself that THAT'S what I want to look like. I have a wide waist, I'm kind of blocky, I don't have the best structure (in fact, I have very sub par structure).
Of course nowadays I have bigger dreams than just packing on muscle and being judged by 7 guys in suits lol. But I still think of Jay as the guy who motivated me to work my ass of in the gym, eat around the clock, and live like a monk so that I could compete and not embarrass myself on stage.

Jay was still holding a ton of water in 2006 compared to 2009 where he was shredded. Sorry to say, but the only reason Jay won in 2006 is because Ronnie was injured.

09 followed by 01, that’s it

I met him in 03 after he was second to Coleman. Huge! But also had these blurred arms and delts from synthol. It was a strange look he had but still under control. His legs looked 36 inches!
He did not have a crazy back. Skin still at the lower parts and also pretty lackluster lower back.
-
He did the best with what he had - his advantage was a super compact build which, especially in the beginning, was pretty impressive.
Also his size-feud with Ronnie was kinda cool.

You're right.
I met him 1 week after his win at the 2010 Mr. Olympia and literally lost most of his conditioning. He looked like he was in off season. He was big and wide, but nothing special to talk about.

I agree. I looked crazy the day after in the road to the Olympia

Iceman: you old dirty schmoe... are you blind? Ronnie lost because he was holding water, not Jay. If Ronnie was 10lbs lighter, he would’ve beaten Lee Haney’s record.

Go back and read my comment again. I was comparing Jay 2006/2009 and said Jay 2006 was holding too much water compared to 2009.
