Brothers, as I sit here in my dungeon, having successfully masturbated and now, having read yet more vitriol towards the current Mr Olympia - I am ready to contemplate thongian philosophy, I cast my mind back to the days of yore and I wonder:
Can you recall a time where we had a Mr Olympia that wasn't public enemy #1 on this board?
I think back to Ronnie.. huge hate for him. A lot of people would probably be surprised about that, but there was this huge push for Jay to win over him, which seems increasingly ridiculous with every day that goes by. I remember people were so happy when Gunter beat Ronnie.
Surely, surely we were not fans of the fridge when he caught his break? Humble he may be, he has the least detailed upper body in the history of Mr Olympia winners - the "bloofyness" that we're only now starting to understand.
I cannot remember whether Dex was hated - but let's face it, Dex has a little cockyness in him, so likely that was the case - as you're not allowed to be proud of your achievements on the internet :)
It does beg the question - let's say this board was around when the great oak was in ascendancy - would his cockyness also condemn him to being the #1 enemy of getbig?

Yeah, that's a pretty classic example of what I'm talking about.
Basically, he shows a little cockyness - actually talks back to some haters and suddenly, people are making up all sorts of shit about him. The whole leaving wife thing.. such a beatup - I mean, are we seriously going to be suggesting that it is unethical for a relationship to end after one person has had cancer? I've read people say that phil used his wife's cancer to promote himself and then left her when she was healthy - I mean, it's such hiliarious bullshit.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his physique - I just think it is interesting how people are prepared to just go into outright speculation and look how people run with it.
If Arnold was on instagram during his heyday.. come on, the dude was a womaniser, he was cocky, arrogant - probably would fire back at haters.. he would be hated.

I think Ronnie was quite widely accepted.
And to be honest, he is the last impressive Mr. Olympia.
Jay was OK one year but not wow-effecting.

some didn't like Jay because of the -07 fiasco, some didn't like Ronnie because of his gut in his late Olympias, some didn't like Dorian because Nasser controversy, but all mentioned were widely popular and liked by most.
