The 50s, what a glorious era!
I shudder for what 2050 will bring though! Thankfully i'm not alive by then.

The scene is chaotic — students verbally attack Nicholas, demanding he apologize for his wife’s “racist” comments. Ultimately, he does not decry the content of Erika’s email, but he emphatically and repeatedly apologizes for any pain her words caused.
The first female student he speaks to individually, whom he calls on after noting that she had her hand raised, demands that he call her by her name before she will speak to him. “Sorry, what’s my name first?” she says with a smirk.
“See, that’s the thing, I have over 500 students,” Nicholas says.
“I was in your class freshman year,” she continues. “You were my sophomore year advisor. . . I live here, I eat in the dinning hall for all three meals. And you should know my name. My name is Mikayla.”
She goes on to demand an apology for the email and during their exchange, another student who identifies herself as Lisa interjects before eventually storming off in tears. “So then apologize!” she screams before bursting into tears. “I don’t understand the issue!” Lisa says between sobs.
“First of all, I would like to apologize for hurting your feelings,” he said. “In addition I will acknowledge that comes from a very deep and legitimate source of complaint. I understand it. I understand to the extent that I can some of the struggles that many of you have had.”
This apology did not satisfy this group of students who demanded he call wife’s words racist.
“Let us define our own experiences,” a student says. “Let us tell you if you’re being racist.”
“No, no,” Christakis says.
“Actually, that is how it works, okay?” shouts another student.
After another student gets in Nicholas’s face, he tries to calm tension by embracing the student, who responds nastily.
“The situation right now does not require you to smile,” he says.
“This is my home, and you came in here!” a hysterical female student says.
“You have created space for violence!” another shouts.
“I do not respect you,” a female student wearing a black headband says after refusing to shake Christakis’s hand. “I’m looking at the smirk in your face and I’m disgusted.”
“I want your job to be taken from you,” she continues. “I don’t want you to have this job. I’m disgusted knowing that you work at Yale University where I will get my degree — where I will look back and think I had to argue with you!”
After several minutes of shouting, the student finally says he will leave the courtyard to go watch TV when it becomes apparent Nicholas will not say what she wants him to.
“I’m going to live my life knowing that you’re going to be the disgusting man you were 20 second ago, a minute ago, 30 minutes ago,” she says, before she walks out of the camera frame. “This is sick. I’m done!”

The irony is that most of the educational infrastructure has been rendered obsolete by by online and distance learning. The only reason for most colleges to exist is the hard sciences and engineering departments. Liberal Arts departments are dinosaurs. They're about as needed as a newstand on every corner.

Back in 1962 you could get hired on with a Liberal Arts degree and eventually climb the corporate ladder because a college degree was a rarer commodity.
The sooner proclaiming to have graduated with a Liberal Arts degree is met with laughter and mocking the better we will all be.

Two emails prompted all these temper tantrums.
The first was an email sent by the Intercultural Affairs Committee to all students guiding them on how to choose an appropriate Halloween costume.
please ask yourself these questions before deciding upon your costume choice:
• Wearing a funny costume? Is the humor based on “making fun” of real people, human traits or cultures?
• Wearing a historical costume? If this costume is meant to be historical, does it further misinformation or
historical and cultural inaccuracies?
• Wearing a ‘cultural’ costume? Does this costume reduce cultural differences to jokes or stereotypes?
• Wearing a ‘religious’ costume? Does this costume mock or belittle someone’s deeply held faith tradition?
• Could someone take offense with your costume and why?
https://www.thefire.org/email-from-intercultural-affairs/ (https://www.thefire.org/email-from-intercultural-affairs/)
The second was a response by Erika Christakis, the wife of the man in the video.
Dear Sillimanders:
Nicholas and I have heard from a number of students who were frustrated by the mass email sent to the student body about appropriate Halloween-wear. I’ve always found Halloween an interesting embodiment of more general adult worries about young people. As some of you may be aware, I teach a class on “The Concept of the Problem Child,” and I was speaking with some of my students yesterday about the ways in which Halloween – traditionally a day of subversion for children and young people – is also an occasion for adults to exert their control.
I don’t wish to trivialize genuine concerns about cultural and personal representation, and other challenges to our lived experience in a plural community. I know that many decent people have proposed guidelines on Halloween costumes from a spirit of avoiding hurt and offense. I laud those goals, in theory, as most of us do. But in practice, I wonder if we should reflect more transparently, as a community, on the consequences of an institutional (which is to say: bureaucratic and administrative) exercise of implied control over college students.
[snip]
I don’t, actually, trust myself to foist my Halloweenish standards and motives on others. I can’t defend them anymore than you could defend yours. Why do we dress up on Halloween, anyway? Should we start explaining that too? I’ve always been a good mimic and I enjoy accents. I love to travel, too, and have been to every continent but Antarctica. When I lived in Bangladesh, I bought a sari because it was beautiful, even though I looked stupid in it and never wore it once. Am I fetishizing and appropriating others’ cultural experiences? Probably. But I really, really like them too.

This email, which asks the innocuous question, can't we let college student pick their own Halloween costumes without getting the PC police involved. led to women screaming “You have created space for violence!” and “I want your job to be taken from you,”
It really is disgusting how politically correct this country has become.
-

All dark, and the ones screaming incoherently (i.e. all of them) all women as well. Proof, again, that white males are just simply superior.

Almost all blacks at Yale are there on affirmative action. Obama probably got into Harvard on affirmative action. Malia Obama probably getting into Harvard on affirmative action.

They're making a mockery of what their ancestors went through.
feminists need to go to Saudi Arabia for a week and politically correct brats like these need to go to Russia for a week.
All of a sudden that "racist" email won't seem so racist.
Entitled little brats. If one of my kids was there bullying that professor I would genuinely disown them.
That email was 100% spot on. Incredible anyone can think it offensive.
Ironically, I think minorities who claim to be racially discriminated against are the most racist themselves.

It simply true, and has been that way for ages..

Part 3
LOL at the male student who got right in the professor's face thinking he's Batman "Look at me!"
I would have broken his nose for invading my personal space.
Beta prick has been watching too many self improvement videos on youtube.
Practising power poses in front of the mirror for 10 mins everyday won't help you in the real world, young one.
Calm down and go have a cup of tea before you get in the wrong person's face.

I recently watched a political show in the uk, where a back uppity author was trying to claim a white author shouldn't write fictional characters from an ethnic view point as it stereotypes and offends people of colour...
She was black, wore long brades, in African skirt etc...
This shit makes normal people sick, how the fuck did this get so bad?

This is the best piece I've ever read on the subject. It's about Sweden, but fully applicable, here.

I read the emails, and they seemed pretty innocuous to me. I will say, like was mentioned in another post, that this professor is getting what he and his wife deserve. Not because he is "racist" but because he is part of the problem.

Funny how these low IQ nignogs are happy to eat up all the amazing inventions of white western males, live in their lands (remember the blackies in England are voluntary migrants) and then turn around and try to pretend they are remotely equal, and then try to attack the same people who gave them their voice..

This, this, this. I would gladly pay those whiners to move back to Africa. They can take their phones, tablets, PCs, cars, and all other possessions with them. We all know that 3 years from that moment, they'd be begging to be shipped to the civilised world again. They'd volunteer to be our slaves, just to be back in the first world.

He shouldn't even be acknowledging they have a point let alone granting them an audience.

This extends beyond race, this is encompasses the major part of social (aka fake) sciences. They have so little to do education wise that they can spend the major part of their time at the university bickering and arguing about meaningless matters.
When I attended university (graduated a some years ago) I worked as hard as I've ever done, easily putting 50-100h a week at peaks, never less than a 40h average. Attending a top university should be considered a privilege few are able to enjoy and as such you should respect the educational system and put down the effort of actually engaging in productive things, not waste your time writing constipated essays on social justice on tumblr or w/e it's called. Anyway, I'm rambling, the point is if you are doing what you are supposed to do during your time at a university you wont have the time to come up with petty things like trigger warnings or safe spaces.
They should use their time more wisely. Especially considering they have the extreme privilege themselves of graduating from an Ivy league school. Long gone are those days when an Ivy league student only ever needed to put the school's name on the CV to be fast tracked to employment. These social science majors are only further deteriorating the names of these schools.
-
He shouldn't even be acknowledging they have a point let alone granting them an audience.
He completely pandered to them and their baseless views. He is the authority there, showed no backbone as an authority or as a man.
One thing listening to someone's point of view, another thing bending over backwards and allowing them to bully you.
They are all enabled and have a false sense of entitlement. People like the professor are only continuing that by taking this crap.
-
He should have just said that they are being oversensitive, and if they took offense to the email, they really need to toughen up, as there is nothing remotely racist in it. If they believe that there is, please submit a 10,000 word essay on why, which he will duly review and provide a response.
That would stop them dead in their tracks.

If you remember the show "All in the Family," Mike "Meathead" eventually became a college professor. That was a case of art imitating life. That what sixties radicals did and these are the results.

Affirmative action all the way.

Exactly, it should go like this...
"I dont like what you wrote"
"thats OK, you are entitled to your opinion".
"But, But...."
" did you want anything else, if not ,close the door on the way out"

Free university degrees for affirmative action morons.

By now you’ve probably seen this video from last fall in which a Yale student screams at a professor, insisting that a college campus ought not be an intellectual space, but a space to make students feel safe and at home.
Now, newly resurfaced videos show what happened just before the aforementioned altercation took place.
“You should not sleep at night!”
a female student shrieks at Yale sociology professor Nicholas Christakis in that video which has since gone viral.
“You’re disgusting!”

SF, I posted the original thread, but now four new videos have surfaced showing what happened before the viral video shown above. Rather than bumping an old thread, I decided to started a new one. Thanks for your continued effort to out Abraham Lincoln threads.

Jesus Christ, where have all the real men gone?

Affirmative action produces negative results.

Is anyone really shocked that people at Yale are a little partitioned off from reality? It's the same mutual reinforcement of nonsense these places have indulged forever. New nonsense, same template.
Imo we'd get along just fine without institutions dedicated to self important snobs packing one another's asses full of ivy but apparently there's a market for that sort of thing.

You think this is exclusive to Yale?
-
You think this is exclusive to Yale?
No it's universal, but I'd speculate there's a correlation between the degree to which privilege can isolate people from a result oriented culture and the amount of nonsense they will engage in, so ivy league colleges like Yale are an ideal cloud chamber in which to precipitate these kinds of circle jerks. Take the Skull & Bones society. It's the same structure. People reinforcing one another's beliefs.
It's kids in a sandbox playing make believe. They're playing the Holier Than Thou variation of Mine's Better Than Yours. It's not just Yalies, or college kids in general, or even SJWs. You get the same social dynamic from political conservatives. Office workers. Construction site lunch rooms. Model train enthusiasts. Even bodybuilders playing "We're Better Than Them." You name it. Most uninterrupted interactions yield social gameplay which pays off to those who further the game and vilifies those who don't. Since no one has interrupted these kids for years at a time, the group's cohesion depends strongly on the game continuing so you've got this borderline Lord of the Flies conform-or-else thing happening there.
People get shitty if you don't play. They get even shittier if you mock their game by playing sarcastically. They don't like having their mutually agreed upon basis for interaction made fun of. I generally get kicked out of the sandbox by the other kids for being a spoilsport, and a boring one at that.
Aside: This is why I find female conversation especially interesting. It's a gross generalization but men are usually trying to get something accomplished so are task oriented, whereas women's interactions center on finding and reinforcing some kind of alliance, so a badly executed conversation between females is like a wreck in slow motion. Beats Nascar any day. Successful gameplay being a goal in itself is probably also why females are more strongly represented in SJW circles. Or any kind of circle. Sewing circles. Male interactions are abbreviated by finishing something. Without a focus for the conversation, women don't have a social finish line. They just meander all over the place like this post, except fascinating.
