Thoughts on the Nobel prize win?
-
I'm about as excited as Bob.
I can't take their shit seriously after the Obama/ Peace thing. Seems like a body more interested in elevating it's own relevance by riding the coattails of the already famous than it is in recognizing other's achievements. Not that I know jack shit about 'em but I see them as devaluing their brand.
Bob's probably asking where the fuck they were 40 years ago. What's the point in recognizing someone who has been universally recognized as talented for decades already? "Yes, we at Nobel also feel that way." Wow thanks, so glad you're here to make these things official for us.
We could have the 'but is it literature' debate but who cares. "Does Nobel even count for jack shit anymore" is a far more interesting question.

Never cared for his music.
I thought his voice was like a whiney woos.
I grew up disliking the hippy love and peace movement.
I ended up enlisting in the USMC by age 19.

The answer is blow it out your ass.

Dylan slayed more tail on 90210 then you could ever dream of. He was the alpha....and he managed to do it all whilst clearly never touching a weight. Jealousy is a stinky cologne choadboy.

Any Dylan Fans?
Yes, great actor.

And that tells you the state of the music industry and everything that is wrong with it..As Van Morrison said "Music is spiritual, the music business is not..."...nonsense stuff of peace.
-
I get it. Body of work. Counter-culture. Protest stuff. Resonating with the judges/his peers. He is good. Have, what 15 cds? Maybe the same # of Faulkner. Don't re-visit either.

Dylan, and only him, deserved that Nobel Prize...his oevre is gigantic, he made a difference, he was about the first one to write popsongs longer than 3 minutes, influencing the Beatles to do the same, and songwriters like Carol King to make the change from Love-you-songs to real poetry.
He made weaker albums and songs for sure, but he's still around and made a big-time comeback with Modern Times after poorer stuff in the late seventies and during the 80s.
Love ya Zimmie.... 8)

I listen to Van every single day and was raised on him...but nobody comes close to Dylan....all your heroes and mine included will admit to that...genius.

I saw him in concert last Friday and I have to disagree. He sounded horrible and did not play to the audience at all. Adele sings "Feel My Love" 10x better. No homo.
