You could just see the cognitive dissonance. She simply can't accept the facts he presented.

I would've liked to see Newt just ask her flat out if she thinks the media has called this race right down the middle.

She can't comprehend a world that's outside her bubble. It was as though Newt was speaking in a language from another planet.
