Post by: CC973 on November 03, 2016, 06:39:57 PM

Thanks. No it doesn't. It's micro pigmentation...they replicate hair follicles giving the appearance of a shaved head.

Why bother if its still going to be shaved like that?

I could see why someone would want to do it. It cuts down on the maintenance a bit, and cuts down on the "hey I'm bald" vibe, if someone isn't comfortable with hair loss. I do wonder how it it will age though, not many older men go with the stubble look, I gues you cross that bridge when you come to it, looks good now.

How much?

Mine was $2,600 and it took two sessions. But prices can range anywhere from close to 1,000 to a bit over 3,000 depending on how much work needs to be done.

You don't really see the full result of how it will look until about 10 days after. Before I did it I talked to a couple different guys that had it done and if they didn't tell me I would have no idea.

Looks great brotha.  I think it will look better as it heals up since it's a tattoo on your scalp.  The scalp has millions of little capillaries that if messed with give it a slightly swollen/redish look.  Once it's healed I think it will look even better.  The good thing about this is that people will look at it and think 'this guy is not bald, he just chooses to keep his head shaved' which is the ultimate intention of scalp micro pigmentation.

lot's of folks are gray at the sides. My hair looks white from a distance. Up close is a different story....more "salt and pepper."

Aside from seeing photos where the hairline looks somewhat artificial, it seems like a great idea, if you don't like the real bald look.

I thought about getting this done but opted for a transplant instead (which I got done earlier this year). SMP helps frame the face but it leaves you stuck with the same look for the rest of your life.

Have you ever seen people with tattooed eyebrows which look completely fake? Before I'd submit to a tattooed 5 o'clock shadow on my head, I'd need to feel very confident about the quality of the tattoo artists work, no matter whether they call it micropigmentation or just a tattoo.

While it looks okay....im worried for you how it will look in years to come when the ink starts to turn color and blur, It will definiately look like shit when you're older I can gaurentee that.

And exactly what buddy says, it is just a fancy word for tattoo.  micropigmentation? really....its a fucking tattoo.  And theres tattoo parlours out there doing the exact same work with results for less.  These clinics acting like doctors are scam artists cashing in on this fad.

The ink used for smp doesn't change color...Over time, usually about 5 years, it will lighten up some and touch up procedure could be done. The reg tattoo ink would most def turn more bluish over the years.

This.We process faces in 3rds, when the upper 3rd doesn't end it isn't as attractive as having hair or even appearance of stubble to frame the face.

Yeah I've seen a few of those while researching the procedure. As with any industry there is good and bad and you have to make sure you are dealing with a reputable place. Any SMP provider using regular tattoo ink, or without the proper equipment, training, and experience, will jack up your head.

My buddy got a transplant 3 years ago. His hair to me looks exactly the same. Maybe a bit more cabbage but still looks like he's losing his hair. And he was barely balding. Also once you get the transplant you got to go on all those prescription lotions etc for life. Who knows what that shit will do to you long term. idk

Scalp Micro USA in NYC...top notch. it's not the same as getting a tattoo so don't go to a tattoo shop...do a search for SMP in your area and then do some research to make sure that they are reputable.

How long before you'll need to have it re-done as tatts fade? And did they show you pics of what it will look like when it fades? Will it be much cheaper to get it re-done when it does fade or is it the same amount of work to fix?

It won't really look a lot different other than it will lighten up some. Usually about 5 years according to what I was told and read online. At that point you can do a couple touch up sessions which are much cheaper than the initial cost.

If I chose this, it would need to be lighter to begin with. Black or dark brown dots with white hair might look odd.

They will match the color based on existing hair and skin tone.

They will match the color based on existing hair and skin tone.

They'd need to be extraordinary artists to get it right with my coloring. I have olive skin and gray to white hair. This would be a big challenge.

For many years, I dyed my moustache. Anything darker than dirty blond made me look like Poncho Villa.

One thing that's a positive is the price. $2,000 to $3,000 is peanuts compared to what a lot of folks spend on haircuts over the years. And if your talking about a decent rug, plugs or scalp reduction, this procedure knocks those out of the park, cost wise.

You would look great Prime. I know you have seen pics and if they use a lighter shade it will grey out to light shadow.  No worries about color matching if you shave.

I did a lot of research before getting mine done. In the NYC or NJ area go with either Scalp Micro USA or Hairline Ink. They are both top notch. If you're looking for a softer hairline and more natural look they will do that.
