I never did warm up sets but now I think they might be smart for avoiding injury. Shoulders, chest...I think would be a must since shoulders are so prone to injury. Legs not so much.
What say you?

Pretty sure you consider the drive-thru a warm up, Fat Alice. ::)
/double-double

Nice. I kinda agree. Thanks Powerlift66. Now, butt out. This thread is about fat Alice's constant need for attention-whoring, and me/committee reminding him he has always been horrible. Guy brings nothing to the table :)

2 to 3 hundred - when my joints are fuming it's time for the main set.
-
2-3 in the summer and maybe 3-4 in the winter.
-
Just one light warm up set to get the blood flowing and prepare my muscles and joints. Everything after that is intended to stimulate growth.
-
Hold on a second.
People actually train that post here?
-
Lots for the first excercise of the bodypart trained, 1 or none for the following excercises
-
none
instead i wear a sweater and drink hot coca
-
all my sets are warm up sets...

2-3 in the summer and maybe 3-4 in the winter.
This
Usually by third set, shit starts to get real.
Same with sprints.
-
If you've trained a long time id be very suprised if you didn't have to ease your self in, there's not a body part trained with a weight where i don't do several warm ups, even my main sets are dine without much rest between sets to keep the weight down and the blood going
-
Warm up sets are for babies. I go right in. 50 pound bench press for 6 reps and go home. lightweight baby!
-
One or two for the big exercises. Most exercises I do none.
-
Depending upon the body part, between two and five.
-
2-3 in the summer and maybe 3-4 in the winter.
Same here.

Exactly.
I knew a guy who claimed to always lift naked, and that if you couldn't get up for a workout, you were either sick or a closet case. The guy's name was Claude. Claude would say things like, "Warm-ups, like foreplay, are for the inadequately endowed; and, as you can probably tell, I am not inadequate. Quite to the contrary."
His main idea was that training arousal ought to be instant. Pep talks and pre-workout drinks are for those who need assistance sustaining interest in order to perform, i.e., for sufferers of workout disfunction (WD). "The weights are there," Claude would say, "they're resisting, sure, but that's the fun: start pumping!" He invited me to train with him at his home, you know, to demonstrate his ideas; I politely declined by saying that I had to return some video tapes to Blockbuster. This was last year.

The whole idea of doing "warm ups" is to literally raise your muscles' temperature. Never exercise a cold muscle. Do light work until the muscle warms up, before you get it to do any real exertion.
-
Exactly.

Did he offer you any imitation crab meat?

No, but oddly enough, Claude did say that after a rigorous bout of training au naturel, I could stomp and kick around his model train set like a giant, naked monster.
Non, merci.

Been there, did that.... nothing at all like a good pair of pizza pits.

depends which exercise ? first or following exercises ?, rep-range for the first working set ?
sometimes the time between starting Training and first working set is as Long as the time from the first working set to the last of that muscle-group.
i remember i did 12 sets of "warming up" in a icarian Squat machine, starting with two 55`s, last warm-up set i īdid 455 kg, and on the 1. Working set 505 kg for 5 reps....for the xtra load i placed a empty olympic bar on the top of the machine, and load that bar for the last 3 warm-up sets. For smaller muscles Groups like biceps/shoulders i do 3-5 warm-up sets, before the "real Training".
