Age will have us all.
One needs to find joy from things other than making progress because you don't progress anymore at old age.
I'm for example grateful I can still go to woods and do few pull ups. That is what brings joy to me.

Yes, but Ronnie greatly accelerated aging and ruined himself by shotgunning tons of gear and lifting waaaaaaaay too heavy.
I am 50 and still to perform workouts that are impossible for 95% of people in my age group. That in itself is very satisfying.

So do most guys playing in the NFL.
Pro sports is NOT about health and fitness.
It's all about pushing the limits of performance and winning.

No doubt. All these ex-pro bodybuilders have to take it... their testicles are permanently shut down.
-
A lot of people his age having done what he did, would be 6 feet under at his age.

True. I guess people really need to make a decision... do they want to win?, or do they want to live a long, healthy life?
Youth (+ androgens) makes people feel indestructible and the decisions made during that time can lead to dire consequences. Conversely, age brings clarity, awareness and thoughtfulness about life. I want to be the guy where people think: "Geez... when is this fucker going to die?"
Most top BBers that took boatloads drugs when they were young will probably not live past 65.

Yeah Buddy , really is light weight

Sure but what have you achieved, when ronnie dies he will be remembered as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time when you die you wont be remembered for anything and you will be a forgotten memory.
-
i prefer to imagine this isnt really happening and i just keep watchin old videos and living in the past

i think he would rather be able to walk and have a good quality of life, unlike ronnie who is on the way to being wheel chair bound, and the only people who will remember ronnie 50 years from now are his family and schmoes

Being relatively famous isn't something that lasts.
Very famous artists and actors from the 1970's are totally unknown by today's teens and twenty somethings (and even people in their 30's)

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
Old Time is still a-flying
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying

Can anyone make a quasi-medical assessment on this? Is this just body dysmorphia running its course? Why is Ronnie doing this to himself? I respect Ronnie's accomplishments, but I don't understand this.

Honestly, who here doesn't at least wonder what it would have been like to be Ronnie at his peak. It's one thing to say we've matured and have other priorities and all that, but none of us here even remotely had/have the genetic potential (boatload of drugs or not, and if it was 'just' the drugs, this thread would be about bostin loyd since he should by rights have one of the greatest physiques of all time) to get within a country mile of his physique. Who is to say that had we actually had that potential, and an opportunity to go with it, that we wouldn't have ended up in far worse shape than him medically etc.
-
Piana could help him fill the gaps.....

He isn't really doing anything to himself. He didn't train for 6 months after his surgery and his return to the gym has been with very light weights for 13 weeks now. Whatever he did wrong the first time, he is definitely being careful this time.
Here he is 13 weeks ago

It seems likely he is completely natural right now, given the fact he hasn't blown up and his strength hasn't drastically increased and despite what may be heralded, here - this is just a bunch of people who assume that he is doing something wrong and that he will once again break down. They have no clue. The first time he fucked it up, I believe he was squatting. He should probably never squat again in his life.
You'll note that there are many people around that have been waiting for him to get to his lowest to compare themselves to Ronnie. These people will never achieve much in their lives at all because they're too busy looking (and often enjoying) other people's adversity instead of focusing on their own quests.

You just more or less summed up my life in 11 words there LOL! ;D

You know what. This makes Ronnie happy and he sure is a fighter. I respect that. Nothing gets him down. I mean most people would have just given up at this point. It really is amazing that he keeps going like this. I hope for his sake he is able to recover some but he has to be careful and not let things go to his head if he gains back some size. He will never match what he had before so he should really be focusing on trying to be healthy and lift light to moderate weights. Not sure if he will though. But props to him for trying.

him either -

if he can train and stay in shape and hold size not 'old ronnie'but enough to not kill himself getting there.he needs to stop with old ronnie in prime'lifting quotes' tho.need to take a page from haney/yates on downsizing into non competitive shape/life.
-
""ronniecoleman8It's my first day back training at the gym after a 6 months layoff. Yes I know I am very small and I've lost a ton of weight but I know with some hard work and dedication I'll get my size back. I didn't win 8 Mr Olympia's by not having faith and not training my butt off so I know I'll get back where I want to be. I've had 7 surgeries so far with this last one being the most difficult and taking the hardest toll on my body. That's what a 2 level fusion with 6 screws, 2 very large cages and 2 very large spacers will do to you. I'm still not walking unassisted but I will get back to normal walking just like I will get back to my normal size. Phil 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".""

Yup! I agree, sir. His moment in the sun was so long that now he's just a raisin, all shriveled up. He's on an endless loop of "thankew Jayzuss!".

A prime (not when he became too heavy) Ronnie Coleman was the greatest bodybuilder. He had it all--mass, size, symmetry, conditioning, etc. Today, well, it's a sad state of affairs to see his current status. I hope he stays healthy.
-
Having had a hip surgery myself ( nothing compared to Ronnies replacements ), this hurts me just watching him. I cant believe hes being so damn stupid. Hip pain is not to be fucked with. :-[

i think he is on so many roids, and pain killers he is to dumb and stupid to even realize what he is doing to himself. but his momma and jesus will give him the strength
to get through his workouts and father a few more kids to pay child support on

"Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wanna have 14 kids and have 9 surgeries."

I still have a hard time believing Ronnie has a degree in Accounting. If he does, he must have paid someone to write his exams for him. He always looks completely bewildered in the most simple of tasks (i.e. stirring a bowl of oatmeal) so I can't see him having the mental capacity to master accounting principals and obtain a degree.
