I knew someone, the father of a friend of mine, who was a political prisoner of Castro in the late 60's told us of the torture they were forced to endure for years on end.
Everything from solitary confinement in a cell no bigger than a box to being handcuffed and hung with their hands overhead and beaten with wires or cables. He definitely had the scars to prove it. Somehow he and a few others were able to escape, not sure of the exact details how and eventually made it to Fla.
