Title: Pearl Harbor
Post by: FREAKgeek on December 07, 2016, 03:11:33 PM
The conservative remembers and honors our fallen heroes, the liberal apologizes for the Japanese relocation.

Where is Google's artistic remembrance of the anniversary?

I swear to god. They have great art for every random black person's birthday.

I'm very patriotic and vigorously defend our use of the a-bomb on Japan to end the war.
I actually went to the Hiroshima memorial in my USMC dress blues when I was stationed in Okinawa.

I remember it because it's my wedding Anniversary.

Have any of ya'll ni66as been to Pearl Harbor?  I have.  It's a pretty powerful thing to look down into the shell of th USS Arizona.  1000 or so sailors are still entombed inside it.

Yes, I have. I was very little so didn't quite get the significance. Headed to France soon and am visiting the Hall of Mirrors. Hopefully it's moving. Sorry to get off subject, just trying to brag.  ;D

Very cool.  You better get to the Hall of Mirrors soon before it becomes the Hall of Mohammed.   :D

If I was in Europe I'd try to get to Auschwitz.

Jackie Chan wasn't there to kick my ass.  ;D

I was there the 1st week of Aug in 1982.
So I'm  standing at the Hiroshima memorial in my USMC dress blues.
I'm thinking to myself ; " So this is where we dropped the big one." ;)

I look around and see some old Japanese folks , placing items around the memorial.
It dawned on me, some may be relatives that were nuked on Aug of '45.

I didn't feel cocky , but I didn't feel sorry either.
It's war and you don't fight one unless you have to.

Actually, we dropped the small one on Hiroshima: it was codenamed "Little Boy" and had a smaller yield than "Fat Man", which we dropped on Nagasaki 3 days later.

Aug 6 Little Boy the U-235 bomb with aprox 15 megatons of power over Hiroshima.
Aug 9 Fat Man Pu implosion bomb on Nagasaki with 20 megtons of power.

I read the lengthy account (Book) of this by Richard Rhodes and taught physics for a living  ;)

Yeah, I been there, did you go to the Missouri too?

The Arizona Memorial is pretty sobering and seeing all the names especially seeing all the brothers who died at the same time.

A nice 1-2 punch is to watch Tora Tora Tora followed by Midway.  Its like fuck you Japs, you messed with the wrong country as in a 5 minute span your naval power was neutered.

I didn't get to the Missouri.  I wanted to, but I didn't have time.
