Title: RIP Bernard Fox
Post by: Gregzs on December 14, 2016, 07:24:18 PM
Bewitched's Bernard Fox Dead at 89

Bernard Fox, who played “witch doctor” Dr. Bombay on Bewitched, has died of heart failure; he was 89 years old.The Hollywood Reporter first confirmed the news with Fox’s publicist.
In an acting career that spanned six decades, the Welsh actor with the distinctive mustache was best known for a pair of TV roles, both airing in the late 1960s. On Bewitched, he played warlock physician Dr. Bombay, who was summoned by Samantha to treat all kinds of supernatural illnesses. And on Hogan’s Heroes, he played Colonel Crittendon, a bumbling British officer whose plans for escaping the German POW camp never quite succeeded.
Fox went on to guest-star on shows like Love, American Style, Columbo, M*A*S*H and The Love Boat. But he often returned to the character of Dr. Bombay. He reprised the role in two episodes of the 1977-78 Bewitched spinoff Tabitha, and again two decades later on the NBC daytime soap Passions. He had a long film résumé as well, appearing in both the 1958 Titanic film A Night to Remember and 1997’s Titanic.

Fox is survived by his wife Jacqueline, whom he married in 1961, and their two children.

Dude if you die at 89, it's not heart failure, it's just dying. He had a good run, may all of us be so lucky.

I thought he died a couple decades back.

Sinking with the plane in the Mummy movie was not his real passing.

Just read an archived article about Kitty Carlisle who died at 96 and they wanted to point out that it was "congestive heart failure" that killed her.

...Kitty Carlisle who died at 96...

She was asking for it.

Seriously, I know it's common to hear/say that someone "died of old age," but there's always more to it than just age. It's some vital part of the body that fails, or it's a combination of problems.

But, it's not as simple as the notion that the person passed only because they reached a certain numerical age.

My granddad died at 87, he hadn't been ill he just started feeling cold all the time and ended up in hospital and just faded away, his organs were just stopping.
Its old age, but old age is never given as a cause of death, its normally organ failure.

if only he had a decent back could be Mr.O material.
guess few remember him, if I'm not mistaken he even defeated Haney in a show long long ago (I'm old I know)

there was the huge fuss over the 83 Olympia when the whole crowd booed his placing, 5th I think, he walked off stage when Ben Weider tried to make him stay up there.
He was good but I don't think he deserved to beat Samir.

That was the end of him as a threat, don't shit on the Weiders and expect to win shows.

I agree, and it's interesting to have the knowledge just the same.  I imagine if she'd managed to escape that bout of pneumonia which led to the "congestive heart failure" she would have had a good chance of passing 100.
