Years ago I went through a phase of eating tuna with some lemon, maybe 2-3 cans a day for a few months. I was in the best shape of my life and in an instant I just couldn't eat it anymore. Would take almost a few glasses of water to down a few bites. I laid off of it for a while, probably 8-9 years now. The other day I wanted something to eat and decided to pop open a can, squirted some lemon and dear god. Just one bite and I chugged a whole glass of water and just couldn't do it anymore. Was like eating styrofoam. Anyone have any tips on canned tuna that doesn't require all that shitty mayo?

mix some soy sauce and honey. Then, heat it gently up in a microwave and pour it over the canned tuna.
-
It's not good tuna anymore....8 to 9 years ago when you opened a can of albacore it was not mush.
I throw in chopped celery, pickles, and mustard with pepper or sometimes put some low fat cheese on it and pop it in the microwave and have it with salsa.
-
Mash it up w avocado n hot sauce .... tastes like guacamole
-
Nothing can enable me to eat canned tuna in large amounts.

That's a brilliant idea. Maybe some diced onions and a little jalapeno. Guac Tuna. Thanks broseph. Will give this a try

Dont you know how to cook stir fry some vegetables in coconut oil and add tuna to it.
-
nothing wrong with mayo, make your own if you dont want vegetable oil
-
I used to like a can of tuna, 4 hard boiled eggs and a whole avocado all mashed together.
-
Or, just not eat that cat food tasting shit and have something else.
Your body will look no different.
-
Did you have Tuna in brine or in sunflower oil? The latter tastes a lot better than the former.
It mixes well with cottage cheese for a very high protein lunch.
-
a bottle of orange soda
a can of tuna
blend and enjoy

Right answer. Why force yourself to eat something you don't like?
-
I cook my tuna in a skillet, make it crispy, add Franks Red Hot Buffalo sauce..taste great!
-
I've told you all this for years but it falls on deaf ears...
MIX TUNA WITH TOMATO SOUP !!... Honestly you could put away 2 to 3 tins in around 5 mins, add a bit chilli for a change
-
Is it Light tuna or White tuna (Albacore)? The cheaper light tuna is always shitty tasting. Pay the extra and get the Albacore. It's more palatable.
-
I'm using Avocado oil Mayo from Costco for the first time. I like it, it's different, prolly better for you than Mayo.
-
I know exactly what you mean. I cant eat it no more. For me it has been 14 years now. All of a sudden I started to throw Up / hurl everytime I ate it ( and al the other foods I forcefed myself). I did not have any variation in my diet so that must have caused this to happen. The mentioned recepies sound good though.

I eat two tins Tuna with mayo and onion in a tortilla wrap most days.

This.

Yeh I do this too....
-
Mix with half a can of stewed tomatoes.
-
For some reason it tastes better out of the bags to me.

I recall you saying this but have yet to try it, Im sure it does taste good though. Seems like two complementary tastes
-
Use yellow mustard, and Del Dixie Hamburger slices with the tuna...
-
I'm one of the idiots who feel for matrazzos story about putting canned tuna in a blender with diet coke and drinking it.
Aweful.
Then I discovered sushi. Ill never eat canned tuna again. You can get a pound of Grade A/#1/Sushi Grade tuna for $17.
Doing as you have a super sharp knife(and the rifhtbrice... Mixxed with rice wine viniger n sugar), you can make your own Nigiri sushi (maguru). Just gotta pick up some wasabifrom a sushi place for $2 (wasabi from the store sucks.. Its spicy but doesn't have that wasabi flavor.)
Oh, and some lo sodium soy sauce.
If you live hear LA.. There's a place in lil'Tokyo that has Nigiri sushi for $1/piece. So for 40 pieces of Maguro(tuna) or Hamachi(yellowtail) you pay $40 instead of 80-90$..... And its fucken delicious...no

Why are you eating it in the first place? They boil the fat out, that is why it tastes like shit. They have canned salmon and sardines with the fat that tastes much better, and is better for you. Tuna is unfortunately high in mercury.

Yes, it is high in mercury.
Salmon patties are good. Salmon, crushed crackers (oatmeal) and diced onions, 1 egg, place on skillet or grill.
-
They also sell wild caught salmon by the pack too, taste good right out of the pack.
-

x2 - less tinny smell, cat food type appearance.

Haha... I started a thread about this a little while ago, but I couldn't find it when I searched. None of the responses were that great, though.
Here are a few things I've discovered since then.
I started another thread about my newfound love of poke a little while ago (I think you also voiced your appreciation of poke in that thread), and this got me rethinking canned fish. So, I did a few experiments.
Tip #1) Ponzu Sauce. This stuff is so good. I've had it before, but it was never really a staple for me. After seeing how well it goes with poke, I tried it on canned tuna and salmon and it's amazing.
Tip #2) Texture and toppings. Here in NYC all of the poke place serve it over rice with toppings of your choice (sort of like a burrito bowl from Chipotle). I know taste is subjective, but a combo I liked that was on the lower end of the fat scale was:
*Cubed cucumbers ( sprinkled with salt and a little sugar)
*Sesame seeds
*Smashed raw ramen noodles
*green onions
*chopped nori (those roasted snack packages cost $1 and can last for 6 servings)
*French's french fried onions (which aren't low in fat, but I'm only using about a tablespoon)
Tip #3) Seasoned Rice. You can get asian seasoned vinegar or you can make it yourself. Dilute your choice of vinegar with water by a third, then add salt and sugar to your taste. You could probably use stevia, but I never add very much sugar.
Also, I don't know if you know this, but a good way to heat up rice in the microwave is to put a mug with a small amount of water in there for about a minute. After it starts steaming, put the rice in and the rice's texture will be similar to when it was freshly cooked. If you put the vinegar seasoning in the microwave, and then add it to your rice, it will turn out even better.
-
Just do it over and over again you'll get used to it

Ughhhh that shit is awful. Took me 4yrs to get the prison to carry that shit(as well as powdered milk) on commissary and when they finally did i found out it smells and tastes (I assume) like fucking cat food. Lol.
Side note, I can eat salmon sushi all day 7days a week, but when its cooked I can't eat 1 bite. Aweful rush flavor for some reason. Don't care for canned tuna either. Same with spicy tuna. They get that shit by scraping the underside leftover meat off the tuna skin and mix it with siracha. Horrible... Although I can eat 2lbs of tuna sushi a day. Lol
-
Olive oil and complete seasoning or horseradish.
-
I've done this before and it is not as bad as it sounds. Mix a can of tuna with a banana. It's actually pretty good and the banana helps you swallow down that dry tuna.
The avocado with tuna sounds like a great idea. I'll have to try that.
-
Doggity's ideas sound promising = the cucumber / sesame is often found in tuna tartare, so it makes sense.
I broke down and am now eating albacore with avacado, olive oil, salt and pepper. It's passable.
Definitely going to check out the Ponzu sauce.
-
Miracle Whip light, mustard, table spoon of raisins....its seriously better than it sounds
-
If eating two cans at a time, why not have one that is albacore in water and one that is the Italian tuna in olive oil?
A little fresh black pepper, a squeeze of lemon juice (they even have organic ones in the plastic container that looks like a lemon) and maybe some hot sauce, and you've got a good meal.
-
the fuck is wrong with you people :D
-
I used to live on tuna when dieting.
After a long while of this bullshit,I`d just put a forkful in my mouth and wash it down with water like it was a pill or a tablet.
-

That's what I'm saying. 10 years ago, the tuna out of the can tasted like Tuna out of the packet - nice, clean, and not much odor. It seems after the market crash the cans got a bit smaller and the tuna just seemed less fresh and mushy (cat food).
Packets I can just sprinkle some pepper and put some mustard on them and I'm good.
I like to mix tuna with rice, it dulls the flavor. Going to try the tuna, rice, and tomato soup this week.
-
Definitely going to check out the Ponzu sauce.
I highly recommend it. For years I just considered it glorified soy sauce, but man the stuff is good. Perfect addition to tuna.
-
I never liked tuna (or any fish) but for a long time when I bought into the 6 meals per day regimen, I just ate it dry with pepper as part of a quick meal and didn't think about taste.
Now that I eat three meals, I just stick with eggs & beef & chicken/turkey.
And when I feel like an extra meal or snack occasionally, I throw in some cottage cheese.
So no more tuna haha.
