if he cant get legs hack squatting and leg pressing then regular squats wont do squat.
You cant stress the quads more with a regular squat than you can with a leg press, the low back gives out way before the quads.

I hate agreeing with you because you are a dumbass but you are absolutely correct, with his knee problems he should forget about heavy squats and focus on high reps with intensity to fatigue the quads.
