Title: Protein bar analysis
Post by: WannaBePro on January 06, 2017, 04:34:19 AM
Looks like both of the vegan bars fail the heavy metal screening

https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein-bars (https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein-bars)

For Vega:
Quote
This product failed its heavy metal screenings for cadmium, lead, and mercury. This means that levels of these heavy metals in one serving of this product exceeded their respective proposed and established safe daily intake limits as published in California Proposition 65. This product passed heavy metal screenings for arsenic.

For SimplyProtein:
Quote
This product failed its heavy metal screening for lead. This means that lead levels in one serving of this product exceeded its established safe daily intake limit as published in California Proposition 65. This product passed heavy metal screenings for arsenic, cadmium, and mercury.

I used to work for company that helped formulate these protein bars.  I know the sources for the ingredients that are used... they are pure GARBAGE... stay away from them.  Better to eat a Snickers bar or a Baby Ruth.

I used to make my own. But nowadays I'll only buy them if I go on long travels (flights to Europe mostly). I'll get a box of B-UP bars and pack them with my carryon. Otherwise I stick to actual food and the occasional protein shake.

I actually meant to say:

Better to eat a Snickers bar or a Baby Ruth and wash it down with a whey protein drink.

I use one basic standard to measure  the value of l pro bars and drinks :

1. Consume the bar or drink
2. Wait 1 hr
3. Time the inevitable fart caused by the product.

During my younger years, I often ate a protein bar with my coffee pre-workout.  Haven't bought a protein bar in ages.  When I feel like having a sayisfying bar about once a month, a Snickers or KitKat does the trick.

This is GetBig. Macros have no place in our world. A calorie is a calorie and Snickers bar = Quest bar because supplement companies are not to be trusted. And the illuminutty own Mr. Peanut to fund NASA's round-earth lies.

I used to love Detour protein bars. The ones that tasted like a Snickers. But there was some peanut butter contamination and they were affected and pulled of the shelf. I see them reappearing in some places. I don't eat protein bars anymore and wising up and finding out they are mostly filled with cat turds and sugar.

Good points.

I had many a flatulent* experience with the alcohol  based carb products.
* admits to using  any excuse to turn thread topic towards farting

Isn't an in-shape gym-goer just going to burn off a bar fairly quickly anyway?
For daily nutrition (and hitting your macros), isn't that what real food is for?

When I dieted for my first show I loved those MHP puddings. Used to have one once or twice a week before bed. Then once I came off the prep diet I tried them again and realized they tasted awful when you're eating food that has flavour to it LOL.
I also heard that Stallone's protein pudding which has been discontinued tasted delicious. I started making my own protein pudding a couple years ago but now I'm just too lazy.

I get the fat free, sugar free Jello pudding mix. use fat free milk, blend it until it thickens then add a few scoops of vanilla isolate and mix a little more.  portion it out and it's ready to go in 5 minutes in the fridge.  Costs me nothing to make,

Sometimes I do egg whites with casein before bed sometimes. 5mins in the freezer makes it ice cream texture, too.
I like SF jello as well, but I just get the little cups of it.
Also, egg whites + casein make awesome pancakes. Nothing else needed, just those 2 ingredients (assuming the casein you have tastes good).
