I thought the same thing at the time.  It wasn't close to being a close call.

Ronnie literally made the #2 bodybuilder on the planet look like an amateur by comparison.  And everyone who placed third and beyond were not particularly close to Jay.

We may never see something like that again.

First time I seen that comparison I didn't think the size difference was that vast there was a gym shot from about 02 I think where dj looked slightly bigger than Ron was obviously all angle trickery

A good comparison is DJ and Ronnie at the 2000 Arnold, where DJ was 265.

Summer 2003.

WTF happened between the summer and the Mr. O that year? Reminds me of how massive Levrone was looking early last year and then showed up at the Mr. O flat and depleted.

Thank you for noting what I meant when I made my comment:

Ronnie literally made the #2 bodybuilder on the planet look like an amateur by comparison.  And everyone who placed third and beyond were not particularly close to Jay.

To elaborate, Ronnie next to Jay [not Dennis] looked like he was a pro compared to an amateur.  I don't mean that to be disparaging to Jay, but it was something like a 32-lb weight advantage on a 5'10.5" frame compared to 5'8.5" frame.

After Jay, I don't think Dexter and Dennis, in 3rd and 4th place respectively, looked particularly close to Jay.

While I do think Phil dominated at this past Mr. Olympia, I don't think it was the combination of size and conditioning.  It was more a matter of conditioning combined with roundness and fullness.  I just don't think he was dwarfing the other guys in the same way.  The clear winner to be sure, but he was not dominant like Ronnie was in 2003.

Back to Dennis James - 2003 was most likely his best year.

The disparity in quad size is most startling.

What show was that? From 2001-2008 shows I don't recall jay ever losing unless Olympia to Ronnie, that's it

DJ tried matching Ronnie at the size game, and as massive as DJ looked in offseason and gym shots, he is blown away here from every conceivable angle. Higher lats doesn't help him, but damn.
