Dennis turned 47 earlier this month.
Does Dennis still have the potential to look good - not necessarily in bodybuilding terms, but just in terms of looks and youth? Seems to me that he is just embracing aging, as he does not even dye his hair:
-
When are you gonna interview Frank Zane again?
The Youtube comments on that were priceless.
-
Why is Shawn Ray such a fat fuck?

Our younger posters may not realise what a talent Dennis was in the early nineties - possibly a mr olympia contender.

GUY HAD IT ALL...

I'm 54 and look much younger than him. In all fairness though, his leukemia probably sucked a lot of the life out of him. He's lucky to be alive.
Back in the day though, he did have it all. Model good looks and a stellar physique.

he came back in later 90's after that and looked good not quite the same but still pretty good so he didn't lose it after being sick..

What a f**king shot. There are a few magazine covers I remember to this day. I mostly read Musclemag in the '90s, so the Matarazzo 'intro' and the one for Dennis both stand out for me as they blew my mind due to their shoulder width... I half considered starting a Newman thread here before searching and finding half a dozen...

He looks amazing there.

Was friends with him on Facebook for was friends with him on Facebook for a number of years before my previous facebook got hacked and shut down by some Tweaker punk guy and Shawn Ray as well as Chris Cormier we're always egging Dennis on to make a comeback. I recall back probably in 2001 maybe 2002 Dennis and Chris coming into my Pharmacy in Tijuana (P0payless Pharmacy, 2 storefronts down from the bridge that went over the Tijuana River) to order an enormous amount of Primobolan, Testoviron, and Humatrope... have it muled over the border into National City (sd) and then mailex up to Los Angeles. I was surprised at how much hair Dennis had lost... It was super super thin back then. Maybe since then he's had transplants done or something but back then it was super thin and not to mention he probably outweighed Chris by a good forty pounds at least. This was after his suspension and somewhat come back or whatever after the leukemia thing dude was enormous.

Much better to be a "has-been" than a "wanna-be".

Thanks for the clip , Looking at Troy Zucolloto" ... He was a bodybuilder that from 88-94 probably had more exposure than the 60 % of Olympian winners ... did he even place top 6 at some point ?
WoooSHHHHHHHH

You mention Humatrope, which stirred up the sediment in my ancient mind.... some or all of the below may be wrong....
Back in the late '80s / early '90s, I vaguely recall that there were 2 types of GH we could get hold of - the Crescormin stuff harvested from cadavers? And an early recombinant type (name? anybody from the UK please?) that was 1 'piece' of DNA(RNA?) either too short or too long. And if you took the 2nd sort you risked triggering an immune response leading to potential autoimmune disorders - like leukaemia...
And an even more vague memory is of an article somewhere where Dennis almost admitted as much...?
Help me out sharper memory guys please!!

Protropin (somatrem). Introduced in 1985. 192 amino acid sequence instead of the preferred 191.

Used to work out at San Jose golds for a bit hen I worked there.

He dropped to 160-lb during leukemia treatment and his wife dumped him. :-\

I'm sure there was more to it then just that.
Probably a bad marriage to begin with. But fuck talk about kicking someone when they are down.

Good point - that was the explanation Dennis himself gave in a summer 2003 issue of MD. I think the August issue with a Paul Dillett cover. Sad thing about that year is that my friend's brother died from leukemia in early September - he was 23.
But as you said, there may be more to it than what Dennis stated, about solely the weight loss leading to the divorce.
-
I seem to recall that Dennis said she postponed the divorce so he could stay on her insurance during his treatment.

Is there a video interview to this?
Sounds like a real bitch if she left him because he lost his mass. Was for the better if so.
Sorry to hear about your friends brother. 23, damn.

That's the one - thanks. Any opinion on the potential autoimmune angle?
And does anyone remember the article?

Well that was nice of her.

With such an ordeal, you lose more than mass.
Im sure he was depressed as well, lost self-confidence, sense of self-worth, maybe even self-pity, didnt pay attention to the chick as much etc
There is a possibility it's not just due to superficial factors.

Very true, but not a good women not to stay by his side during those dark times.

You can treat the woman like shit during dark times as well which add up to the factors.

Very, very, very few of those types of women around today. 95% of the time... when the money/income is dwindling or gone, they are gone.
-
Average chest. ;)
and longass torso with a wide waist

Absolutely. Had the whole package. Joe Weide'rs dream.

I guess I'm in that 5%, lucky man.

Too lazy to look it up but from memory just a few % of users developed some antibodies and they don't necessarily cancel the effects if at low concentration. I would still use it if given for free.

Wow he was only 23 in that video? He looked mid 30's atleast.
Bodybuilding and drugs age you so fast its incredible.

Agreed.
Yesterday, I spoke with my friend whose brother died of leukemia, and he did not know what "AML" leukemia was.

Newman was what a bodybuilder should look like.

I didn't know what it was until I just googled it either.

Seems like there was a big genetic component in Dennis getting it - but having been on gear for nine years, including GH for some of those years, it makes me wonder how much that contributing to Dennis getting it.
He does not look like a former Mr. USA, looking at him today. That being said, he is not even doing simple things like dying his hair. I think he has embraced aging. Which is fine.
