When did Ruhl ever come close enough?
-
Jeff King.
Had he been allowed to compete in IFBB after winning NABBA, Haney may not have as many Sandows.
-
Victor martinez at the 2007 mr olympia that was a highway robbery.

A lot of the pics I see of Vic in '07 Olympia seem altered. See how different this looks?

Guys that I think were worthy of winning at least one Sandow:
Tom Platz or Danny Padilla (1981). I'd edge Tom for the win.
Lou Ferrigno (1982 or 1983 had he competed). He didn't.
Shawn Ray (pick your year). Agree
Kevin Levrone (pick your year). Agree
Nasser El Sonbaty. Hmm not so sure - terrible back & to much oil.
Guys that had the potential:
Serge Nubret. No legs / Back weak - couldn't stand straight facing forward.. ;)
Bertil Fox. Back let him down - And couldn't do a posing routine.
Aaron Baker. Maybe - underrated.
Robby Robinson. Yes agree.
Vince Taylor. Maybe - not so clear cut. Won Masters Olympia.
Charles Clairmonte. Great Physique- underrated
Bob Paris. No not a Mr O.
Mike Francois. Maybe - had illness not got him.
Lee Priest. No not a Mr O.
Mike Christian. No not a Mr O.
Berry de Mey. Very good - not a Mr O.
Dennis James. Hmm very close but no cigar.
Markus Ruhl. Hmm tough one - 2002 Nigt of champions- then maybe.

If anyone is planning on saying Mike Mentzer go fucking kill yourself.

Makkawy personally sold me the first protein powder I ever used (probably in 1989.) He had a small supplement store in Toronto.

Not to take anything away from Jeff King, but during that era Haney was a man amongst boys.
You really had to see Haney live and up close to realize how good he really was.

You couldn't be more correct. I met Lee at Gold's Venice after the '88 Olympia. All I can say is that pictures didn't come close to doing him Justice. And this is after watching a FLEX photo shoot of a ripped Gary Strydom there the same afternoon.

I remember when he came through the lobby on the way to the warm up room for the Nationals the year he won. He was in a sweat suit and he was with his wife (Shirley?). All the good heavyweights weighed about 210-220 lbs at that time. I think he weighed in at 244 or 254 lbs that day. His thickness was unmatched until Yates came along years later. Although I do feel Lee lost the Mr. Olympia to Mike Christian the year it was drug tested.

I said guys that had potential. Same can be said for Aaron Baker. Guy never got the respect he deserved. Same goes for Bertil Fox in 82 and 83.

Flex was good in 1993 and that was it imo. Chris Cormier had nothing special that stood out. Maybe Id throw in Paul Dillet and Lee Labrada and Albert Beckles.

But compared to dj and priest Cormier is a much better bber, nothing stood out but he was balanced and good "height" and structure
He stood toe to toe with the best, won lots of shows, while priest is really all arms, shorter than short bbers, bad structure, no chest, no back, good legs and calves
Potentially Melvin Anthony was a better bber than DJ, DJ only looked good few wks out of a show

The best Melvin looked was when he won the USAs and when he and DJ had that tie-breaker for a pro card (previous year to him winning the USAs).
At least DJ put in that work, and was compared to Ronnie at the Arnold. Melvin is all gums, blue eye contacts, and blonde hair, aka fake.
